    If Sigma had incorporated an aperture ring into the design of these and not just a mount conversion I would have pre-ordered all 3 of them - I previously owned them for EF-M and loved them. Sadly, they don't...now I have to decide what to do or if I even want any of them because the aperture rings are one of the best features with owning/using Fuji cameras.

    Nice review. I own and use a XE-2 and XE-3 (currently using XE-3) and I enjoy the compact setup when using both 23 & 35mm f2 fujion lenses. I think the sigmas maybe to big for my “compact” cameras. I also use vintages lenses and have several from different camera makers my favorite being the Super Takumar 55mm f1.8 and Olympus G zuiko 50mm f1.4 both are very sharp with beautiful image quality and very compact.

I currently own 23mm F2, 60mm2.4 macro. I had the 56 1.2 & 18-55 kit lenses but they broke on me. I will be getting rid of my viltrox & get the Fuji 56mm 1.2 again. I think it’s what you get used to. I’ve been a photographer for 35 yrs since I was a kid and back then it was manual aperture ring and shutter of course. Later with modern DSLRs the aperture control went to a thumb wheel which I found easy because the Av shows in the viewfinder. I didn’t really miss the aperture ring on the lens (even though for many lenses it was still there). When I bought a Fuji last year I through I’d really love getting back to an aperture ring on the lens but I haven’t found that’s the case. Maybe it’s a muscle memory thing but I find it less convenient and slower to set. I shoot in Av all the time and when I switch between my Pentax (thumb wheel Av) and Olympus (thumb wheel Av) and my Fuji I find it less appealing to use the aperture ring. I like the idea of it but the reality less so. Maybe it’s that muscle memory thing.

I cannot be more suprised - I didn't need week, not day, not one hour. After few shoots I can tell you that Sigma for Fujifilm is much more SHARPER, of course it has BETTER BOKEH (I cant compare with fujinon 23 f1.4, but this one has old SLOOOWER AF speed). Hi, Samuel, my comments herein have nothing to do with the contents of this particular video, sorry about that.
    I chose this window just for it being the latest on your page and, hopefully, to trigger more interest from your viewers seeking recent tech updates.
    I watched some of your past videos, mainly those addressing Leicas issues. Then, it came to my attention your underlining that your favorite focus length lens for street photography is the 28mm and this is the reason why it drove me into bringing up some interesting remarks about a number of aspects related to the 28mm lens' specific organic aspects when registering life events,
    When I say "organic" I mean human soul, human perception of the world around us.
    I learnt with my dad, (an Oscar nominee for best foreign language feature film, the first southern hemisphere film director to win the golden palm at Cannes intl Film Festival, Best Film awards in San Francisco, Cartagena, Karlowary, Edymburgh, Montreal, Acapulco, and on and on... ) that taking a photograph or making a film is, basically, the art of telling a story through a cine/photo lens. The lens making do for our eyes.
    It is impossible to be faithful to a good story through cine/photo tools if the storyteller, the director/photographer doesn't mimic his eyes matching the equivalent lens' focal length of his inner mind story. First comes one's desire to tell a story, either to account for his/her actual life experience or to materialize dreams (or nightmares) or, simply, go out there and register whatever is going on in a chosen theater of events. Then, in order to comply with the accurate optical interlaced referenced parameters, chose the most adequate lens for the job.
    Take, for instance, "The Given Word", one of my dad's highly praised films, 95% shot outdoors at the streets and at the climbing stairs of a church. 95%!
    His chosen lens for most of the shots? The Cooke 28mm.
    Indoors? The Angenieux 50mm.
    In professional film making, choosing a focal length lens for any given scene is a critical issue for its inherent impact on production costs. Wider the focal length, wider the angle of view, more complex and costlier to fulfill the required artistic framework components to fill up all spaces within the recorded imagery.
    My dad couldn't care less about these secondary "details". "I am watching this drama unfolding out there on the streets, not inside a bedroom. Plug in the 28mm!"
    So, my dear Samuel and your faithful followers, always bear in mind that the precious, wise choice of your lens for your next shooting out there in real life will play a crucial role in telling your friends, family or the whole world your, so much your story only, will be worth enough the time for their indulging into rare moments of pure pleasure watching.
    Out on the streets, yes, follow Samuel preference and my dad's second to none, worldwide decision making, pick the 28mm lens! Hurra!
    Samuel, by the way, Sigma brand, sorry, is a forbidden word in my legitimate referenced acquired dictionary of lenses excellency.
    I am all ears to listen to why you question such is so.
    Finally, folks, sorry for any occurrences of misspelling, grammar flaws and the like since English is not my mother tongue. I'm trying hard, believe me.

When I want to take a photo, my ISO blinks in yellow with the text AUTO ISO 3200 and the value does not change. Is it a software problem or a wrong settings? I have system version 1.50. @SamuelStreetlife  Před 2 lety +1

      Sounds like the camera is telling you that you are underexposing. Yellow means it is a warning sign. The camera wants to go higher than 3200 but you set the limit to 3200. So whenever you get a yellow auto iso signal, it means your image is going to be darker than it possibly should be. So you need to lower the shutter speed or open the aperture. Hope that helps :)

    I know from the Zeiss AF lenses for Fuji that phase AF wouldn't work with those. I suspect the same is true here. So you're stuck with contrast detection AF only which Fuji isn't really pushing anymore.
    I'm on the Lumix S5 with the 24mm, 35mm and 65mm C DG DN lenses (waiting for my 20) and they perform great on the S5 because contrast based AF is what Panasonic uses for everything. So it's being properly developed with AI recognition, DFD and so on.
    The full frame Sigma lenses also have AF switches and aperture rings. Honestly, the Sigma aperture and focus rings on those lenses feel better than the ones on native Fuji glass. Which so far were the standard for me. ... You might like them ... just sayin' ;)

    The most comprehensive video on the trio so far!!! Great job by you, isn't the autofocus hunting issue more of a Fuji algorithm problem versus a Sigma lenses? I see Fuji struggle with its own lenses even the new ones, just curious on your experience

    • @SamuelStreetlife
      @SamuelStreetlife  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Neil! Yes the camera plays a role with autofocus, too. But I do believe in this case it is a lens issue. My Fujinon 18mm 1.4 never hunts in continues AF with tracking. It sticks and the focus is always on the subject and every shot is in focus. With the Sigmas the hit rate is less than 50%. But these lenses will get a final firmware before the release and then it should be much better (hopefully).

      @@SamuelStreetlife wow, Sigma is late to the Fuji game and came "untrained out of shape" and it's their autofocus. I have been waiting for these lenses since Fuji XS-10. AAND BTW, you convinced me to get the Ricoh GRIII AND X. Thanks

    Hi Samuel, how is the Sigma 30mm handling on the X-E4? Thinking of replacing my 35mm f1.4 with the Sigma because 35mm is often to tight for me. But afraid the Sigma 30mm might be to big on it

    • @SamuelStreetlife
      @SamuelStreetlife  Před 2 lety +1

      I owned the 35mm 1.4 and I think the Sigma is actually lighter and feels more compact because its slimmer than the fuji. In terms of Image quality you can expect good results but the 35mm 1.4 was a tiny bit better overall I think. I actually find the 35mm too tight as well. The 30mm is much more useful for general purpose photography :) You won't get the same "magic" with the Sigma lens though. But maybe that is something thats not so important to you. The Sigma is nothing special but a solid performer and a better focal length.

      @@SamuelStreetlife wow, Danke für die schnelle Antwort. I am a little surprised that you find it lighter but I guess this is something to experience onces you hold it. Just a little worried about the missing aperture dial.

    Lazy from Sigma to not add the aperture ring which is key to exposure with many Fuji bodies and users.

    2 detractors for me.
    The large size, but they are 1.4. So forgiven.
    Lack of aperture ring. Argh!
    The 30mm is tempting. The 27mm pancake is wonderful size, but the at hunting drives me batty sometimes.
