What also helps is checking out what other great photographers use. People like Sebastiao Salgado or James Nachtwey. In a recent TV interview with Nachtwey he was seen using a 5D (no idea what model) in Ukraine. He didn't even move on to Mirrorless :) Gustavo Minas is known for his work with the X-T2. Julie Hrudova (who I interviewed recently) published her first book last year with work taken on a X-T1. She just recenlty upgraded her camera to the X-T4. But never would I have known what camera she uses by just looking at her work. That is what keeps my GAS in check. Seeing other people doing great work with cameras older or less advanced than whatever I use currently.

I love my X-H1. It was my first mirrorless camera and I bought it with the 35mm F2. I later added the X-Pro3 which I also really love but is currently being repaired so at the moment the X-H1 is back in the first spot to getting picked for shoots. I especially love the X-H1 with the battery grip. It feels so comfortable to hold IMO even if it gets bulkier. I can also confirm what you said about weather sealing. I shot my X-H1 in HEAVY rain and HEAVY snow. It still lives (make sure hot flash and PC terminal are covered. That is crucial IMO).

it's really inspiring to see a very successful filmmaker from CZcams deciding to buy cameras like the X-S10 and not shelling out on an X-H2s, and genuinely making the most out of their older X-H1 and showing that "the latest and greatest" is in some ways just mumbo jumbo. i appreciate your approach to gear, a lot.

I can relate to this video, in relation to the camera I use which is the Canon M50. Pretty much underappreciated by most people, like the XH series Fuji cameras. I was able to overcome my GAS problems, and now I love shooting with this little guy. But can we talk about that intro? I gave it a standing ovation and wanted to throw carnations at the screen in appreciation, but I looked around and remembered my cat eats plants so there are none in the house. So I had to settle for the "one person ovation". Bravo!

I got two X-H1's used for around $650 each, like new. Battery grips on MBP are around $16. Yeah that price is nuts for a legit pro camera. I tether it into C1 Pro on iPad which is held by a magic arm on my tripod. Such a quick setup to get in, get the shot, deliver something on the spot for client mockups. Such a smooth setup. I love it when gear heads dump perfectly good gear that's like brand new. Been shooting full time since 2005. This is the best camera I've used yet. More than enough for pro use and if there's a need for me, rent.

Yep. Still using my XT1 which I bought mint for £299 in December 2021. It’s X Trans II also which is a sensor many love. The other great thing with used stuff is I don’t have to fear breaking it. New stuff above £1000 I always feel like I’m handling fine bone china and any nick or scratch will automatically reduce its value by 20%. Beyond the 20% that’s lost from the value as soon as it’s left the shop. I could probably sell my XT1 now and recoup almost everything I paid for it. There will always be fools who don’t even consider buying anything other than new, which is a shame for them.

I also switched to the X-H1 last year after I needed something with more grip and I've listed after this ever since Evan Randy's vlogs back in like 2016. This canera is fucking awesome, same image quality as the legendary X100f, X-pro2, x-t3, but with IBIS and a comfortable hand grip. Most other Fuji cameras with the nice grip don't have the shutter/ISO dials we love. The battery grip and sideways tilt screw makes filming tik tok/IG reel content so easy which is great since lots of clients want that these days. Also the shutter is quieter than any other Fuji camera, even the leaf shutter ones. And yeah it's still sexy to boot.
I noticed with the battery grip I got the shutter on the grip all the time without noticing, maybe that's why your recording stops while using the battery grip

Yes it’s super quiet and I actually like the “feather touch” shutter button. I think videos like this are important - so many people think they need to keep buying the newest and best stuff instead of just practicing with what they have. I'll admit I've been a victim of GAS in the past. I have waaaay too much photography equipment. Most of which I rarely or never use, but I'm finally using a selection of gear where I honestly don't think I'd ever need higher quality. I mostly shoot vintage lenses, so I'm not saying if I find a good deal on a weird/old/rare lens that I won't buy it to try it out, but I won't expect that lens to improve my photography. I shoot a GFX 50R with a variety of vintage zeiss, leica, and voitlander lenses. There's no reason I'd ever need anything else and I have to always remind myself of that whenever I'm bored and start browsing ebay 😅

Thanks also for the entertainment and the laughs as I've been following you since a few years now, and I'm sure you're one of the coolest photographer to hang out with. Even if I now own the X-H2, I still think my X-H1 is awesome :)

Great assessment, cameras are so high level now that the older versions are enough for MANY people.Even though there are 4 new Fuji bodies with the Gen V processor,I haven't bought in(yet)!...Love the XS10 and H1...plus the other 10 bodies that go back to Gen 1.Keep up the informative stuff, your content is presented well.

When compared to an X-T3, it’s pretty similar and even has stabilization since it’s been updated. The price is pretty nice and new Fuji stuff actually has a weird plastic feel and funky build quality. If you’re not doing extreme professional work. Then even the X-T1 is really good. And if you are doing more extreme professional work, the Fuji is not really the best. However the X-H1 does go through batteries. And it can “feel” really big even though it’s really not that heavy.

The XH1 is great! But I can't lie... I'm very happy with my decision to upgrade to the XH2. The continuous auto-focus is so much better that it has fundamentally changed how I shoot. I went from pretty much always doing single to always doing continuous. The subject detection is also incredibly useful, especially since I've been shooting more birds recently. I also had the issue with the XH1 locking up somewhat regularly and so far the XH2 has been more reliable. And the battery life is much better without having to rely on the battery grip.
I just realized that while thinking about all the things I appreciate about the new camera, it took me a while to even think about the resolution. Then again, I was never disappointed by the image quality of the XH1.
All that being said, I'd still be happy if I just had my XH1. It's just that the XH2 offers enough quality of life enhancements that it makes the process of creating great images more reliable and enjoyable.

Yes I totally get it! My X-S10 has very good AF tracking and it also changed how I take pictures with it. I always use AF tracking and it is so much fun and convenient (especially when taking photos of kids). I would absolutely welcome the AF improvements of the X-H2. For me the X-H1 is mainly a video camera that sits on a tripod so it does what I need it to do and I have other cameras that have better AF when I need it for photography. But whenenver I do use the X-H1 for Photography I go back to my old ways of shooting and although less convenient, the AF works great for regular street scenes. But I absolutely think the X-H2 / H2s is a great improvement for Autofocus. And interesting that the higher resolution isn't something you notice so much. I heard that from other X-H2 or X-T5 users as well. It's probably because 24-26MP is still the sweetspot for many photographers.

The best photo/video pro entry of all time. Mamet watch out! That alone made me subscribe. Then the humour is 1st Class. A serious artist whom isn't worried about seriously making fun of himself is art unto itself. Keep doing what you are doing. I will be watching. Don't pay attention to me. Now... Continue.

Confirming everything you’ve said about the X-H1! I sold mine when upgrading to the GFX system - and still missing it. I may add that extra silent and smooth shutter. Now owning the 50Sii and the 50R I see myself potentially upgrading to the a used 100S because of the better autofocus, but I will NEVER get rid of the 50R. I’ve bought a bigger bag to make it my daily driver 😀

Wieder einmal ein herrliches Video. Immer sehr unterhaltsam.
