- Today, I am out walking around the banks of a local creek chasing down some slab crappie. Its freezing cold out but that usually fires the crappie up! Follow along to see how it all plays out on the creek and how we turn our catch into a delicious warm supper! Thanks so much for watching and we will see you on the next one!
Congrats on a beautiful baby girl. Your kids we have so many great memories fishing, camping and enjoying the outdoors.😊
THANKS COLE FOR BRAVING THOSE TEMPERATURES AND BRINGING US ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO ❤️
It takes a real fisherman to fish in 30 degree weather. Great job Cole, water temperature is getting very cold, be especially careful. God bless you guys
It's a full time job now.
It takes a CRAZY FISHERMAN to stand on ice in a full blown snow storm with temperatures dipping below zero !!! L O L
Fishing through the ice is almost always very productive, especially when the air temperature gets up to about 70°
Thanks for posting. It's fun to see young people enjoy the simple things of life. Too many don't have a clue.....
Some nice creek crappie Cole! Crazy how they get back up in the creeks this time of year!! LIVE FOR THE THUMP MY FRIENDS AND CY!!

What a great catch Cole. I love to fish but it’s too cold for me but I’m much older.
Merry Christmas to you and your sweet little family.
Great video and catch. Merry Christmas Cole, Jay and C
I am a black grandma who loves fishing. I watch you and Jay. I absolutely love your videos, especially catching crappie. My hubby and I fish in our subdivision pond, we mainly catch bluegills and small crappie whenever the weather gets cold. We use live menows for crappie but we only catch crappie every now and then. What is your secret. We live in Snellville GA.
We love to hear that you are enjoying our videos! And I’m not sure if I have a secret, haha, but With crappie, it seems it’s all about finding out where the fish are at first. Finding them is the hardest part but once you’re on them they seem easy to catch! You can never go wrong using minnows, but I have seen where soft plastic jigs have outperformed the live bait as odd as that sounds. Always good to have both ready on deck to use! Thanks so much for watching and I hope y’all catch some monster slabs!!!
Great Video!
Jay, Here in Southern Indiana/western Kentucky we fish as long as we can get to water that is not frozen. Today temp was 27°F and my friends caught the limit on Crappie and a few Sauger.
For Michigan,,,36 degrees is not all that cold, but it is what we get used to. When the temp hits 50 after a cold winter, we are ready to wear shorts and sandals. Keep up the great videos.
Nice job!!! I've had some of my better fishing in Temps around 30° even breaking the ice off the tip of the rod. Gotta love it.
Rain sleet snow to fishing must go on no matter what kind of weather it is it's always beautiful to go fishing if you get the chance especially in the cold weather if you dress well it's always fun y'all fry your fish like I do with onions in the deep fryer first but the secret sprinkle onion salt on your onions before you fry them fry your fish the onion powder and salt makes the onions taste even better I think that might be a Granny's secret and you fry your fish just like I do and in a little Fry Daddy that's how I used to do it back in the day makes it quick use less Grease great video man hope to see some more I'm Glad you came down by Us in Alabama and Florida and had a great time catching fish it's always a pleasure to see someone come from out of state and have a great time you're in a good spot Perdido key in Florida for fishing don't change it it's always going to be great next time you come down here around this time try to go to the Christmas light show they have over there in Florida it is beautiful at night Cypress would really love it and so would Jay have you ever thought about using a rooster tail or a beetle spin catching bass and brim or crappie you can interchange your beetle spin with crappie jigs I don't know if you're a fan of that or not beetle spins is an Old redneck way of a sonar that's where you start to find your fish when you didn't have fish finders back in the day okay love your videos y'all love y'all your friend Ray from Foley Alabama keep up the great work it is a whopping 30° this morning at 4:35 in the morning and it's supposed to get colder never thought I'd see the day when it gets colder down here in the South and it does up north somewhere
Brave the cold. It will be over -35 below tonight. Here in Nebraska. Merry Christmas to you all . Keep warm

We are way below zero here in Minnesota. Wind chills hitting -40 deg F. We will be driving on the lakes soon with this cold weather.
Nice to see you made it home.. I make some mean hand tied jigs.. I'd love to donate to the cause of these awesome videos. Maybe one day thanks for the entertaining videos God bless you and the family.
Saltwater fishing is great but it’s something about a bobber and a jig catching slabs , awesome video
Yeah man, I love it all, but I would trade this fishing trip for amberjacks in a heartbeat haha thanks for watching!
I caught 24 MONSTER slabs this morning at Ross Barnett Reservoir Spillway here in Jackson, MS.

That FL trip is gonna make this arctic freeze even colder to y’all!!
Hang on to ya breeches this is gon be a wild ride for the next 48 hrs. Then by mid-week it will be 60°. 😂 I might see ya out there one day.
👍👍😁
I haven't thrown a line since spring. I caught a few small bluegill and kept them to bury in the garden around the tomato plants. It works well. I canned 17 quarts of tomatoes, 16 quarts of pasta sauce and 18 pints of salsa. Very good stuff in January!
We are excited about getting back in the garden this spring. We bury so much fish out there and it definitely seems to make a difference! Actually Thinking about making a gardening channel considering how much time we spend out there. I think it would be fun to do!
@@COLE_and_JAY Go for it! You have a fine idea!
@@COLE_and_JAY Today, I moved all of my canned jars out of the garage, since the cold wave set in. It took a minute! I had jars stashed away in a bench seat and in my old Army footlocker. I moved all into the downstairs spare room (my wife and I call it "The Covid Bunker"). I have 2 years worth of garden goodness in 79 quart jars and 18 pint jars. Green beans, tomatoes, pasta sauce and salsa. I gotta start cookin' after the holidays!
Fine family
You might want to try using nitrile gloves when fishing in those temperatures. They break the wind and keep your hands dry while not adding bulk like neoprene gloves. I like the somewhat heavier nitrile gloves from the automotive section. Love your videos.
Heck yeah
37° I'll take it. It is -7 here.
Cole.....you don't know cold. Here in north Alabama the actual temp is 1f...with a wind chill of -17. Enjoy your spring weather at 36f.
It's just one of those things. I wasn't really really prepared for the elements, in regards to what to put on, until just a few years ago.
I'm 52.
Where are your gloves?Praying yall have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year
I just got some new ones in the mail!
When running a tube jig, I always slide the tube over the lead head before trying on.
In this way the fish can’t pull your skirt down.
Just sayin
I wish it was 36 here in Denver CO. Our high was 0 degrees.
What i would give for 36 degrees!!! Negative 18 here in MN today! negative 48 wind chill temp!!
Nice video Cole
Thank you!!!
@@COLE_and_JAY Merry Christmas as well to all of you!
Welcome back to polar arkansas
It’s snowing🎉
I'm a Florida boy and that is not cold man
Noticed that mee ma wasn't using a bright, new shiny basket fryer. Why not?? Couldn't re- gift one of your four? Or will one wind up under their tree🤔🤐🤫. Merry Christmas Harken Family, have a Blessed New Year( ...and quit hording your fryers... 😂)
If we gave Meemaw a new fryer she would still cook in the one she always uses. She loves that little thing! Haha and I honestly think that’s her secret to frying good fish .
😀
Dude it's nagitive 4 in Ohio but I fill you peace out from Ohio Don T. Tell Jay and little c hi said hello
I've been told the crappie are deep in the channels when it's cold. Haven't even attempted fishing the creeks in winter
Crappie fishing can be great in creeks during winter. They run up in them in the Fall chasing bait and then you’ll normally have a bunch that stick around during the winter if there is enough food and cover for them! This creek is deeper than most of the lake they came from, so that’s why they like it I think
Those cuts are from alligator gar or big flathead normally here in Louisiana
What up boss nice haul I liked to know what part of Arkansas you were fishing...
It’s off of lake Conway. Not like he’s sharing his honey hole location with you 😂 I don’t get some people these days
Is one type of bobber better than another for crappie fishin
Of course it's freezing...compared to the Gulf Coast. Up here in Central New York this time of year that temp would mean Indian summer. Watching this you have motivated me to try out the local Spring spawn hot spot.. Who knows... perhaps there will be a fish or two in there early. Just Lakeside is phenomenal ice fishing for the Queen's sized slabs and GIANT literally two handed bluegills and pumpkin seeds.
I've been paying attention to the baits you use and how you rig them. Question??? Is there a rhyme or reason as to which bobber you choose? Like size, style, weighted or not, color, etc? Or just whatever you grab. Also... do you ever use minnows this time of year, or stick with the soft baits? Thanks. And welcome home and glade you all had a safe journey.
As far as bobber selection goes, I always prefer to use small and unweighted bobbers if where I am fishing doesn’t require a long cast. The trout magnet panfish bobbers are my favorite. This style of bobber is quiet when it hits the water and is more sensitive. When I need to make a long cast I will use a weighted bobber. I don’t really like it but I gotta do what I gotta do to reach the fish and they still work. We will use minnows from time to time if we feel like they will catch us more fish. I definitely prefer to use jigs so I don’t have to worry about rigging minnows up all the time. And I’m a pretty firm believer that in most cases if you are around crappie, you will be more efficient and catch more with soft plastics. There have been a few times when we have gone deep brush pile
Fishing and the crappie wouldn’t touch a jig but would engulf a minnow. So yeah, we definitely mix it up!
@@COLE_and_JAY Thanks for the info. My focus here has been "sunfish" (worms) and yellow perch (minnows), but I got an inflatable pontoon boat and want to give the slabs a shot in the spring.
Merry Christmas!!
Sometime try coating your fish with Corn Flake "Crumbs".
Hi Cole, I'm going to go ahead and order a couple of ACC Crapie stix, I like to jig for them and swim jigs, can you please recommend a couple rods for me that you like? Thanks and Merry Christmas to you Jay & Cypress!
I like the 6’6” Medium for all around fishing: casting jig and bobber, tight lining, etc and I like the 11ft medium for jig poling around brush piles and other cover. Hard to beat those two rods!
