Updates: The interior is actually sandblasted aluminum, Lenovo also confirmed the higher power use with the Corsair software and are hoping to have them improve the software.
I just updated iCUE from 3.38.61 to 4.11.274 and this fixed the stuck light on the light bar issue, that's fine now, but still high power draw so no improvement to battery drain.
Yesssssir!
Yessir Yessir the awaited one
Waiting for that one too😁
pls do the legion 5 2021 also☹️☹️☹️
looking forward to that comparison!
Choosing a laptop is so complicated.
That’s why after wanting one since 2012-ish I still don’t have one to this day
@@cannibalbunny im looking at this 2021 configuration for 2k in my EU country, without the import fee it would be a few hundred less for USA folks. Seems like a good deal, maybe looking at heavily discounted laptops with best tech from 2-3 years ago would be a solution for you too
Legion 7 vs Legion 5 Pro sounds great. I would also appreciate a budget battle, like Legion 5 2020 1660Ti vs Legion 5 Pro 2021 with a 3060. Though if you compared it to a lamp, I'd watch that too Jarrod.
how do you compare those 2 ones lower end with a cheaper price ones higher end with a more hefty price tag done
The $999 base model will come with the RTX 3050(ti) MAX P GPU (Leaked by Lenovo China). It will be more interesting to compare the 3050(ti) with the 1660ti. According to rumors, the 3050 performs a bit worse than the 1660ti, but has RTX, and DLSS. 3050ti performs similar to the 2060
@@silentscripts168 why not
He will compare legion 5 pro 3070 model with this one not others you speak of
@@roystondaniel2849 this one is 3080 with ryzen 9, even the best variant of the 5 pro is 3070 with ryzen 7
The attention to details which he gives is amazing, like you could get the specs and reviews of this laptop anywhere but no one would tell you if they noticed any screen bleeding the different bios configuration and all thing about those RGB lighting.
Great video man, just keep making the similar up to the point and detailed content.
0:30 now this does put a smile on my face
i think the games u actually play dont need this kind of power....a gtx 1650 will give u a decent frames for your favt. games!!
@@honesthypocrite3574 mmmmmm.... Nope.
@@honesthypocrite3574 nope
@@honesthypocrite3574 nope
@@honesthypocrite3574 1650 is too low. Most people needs would be met with a 2060 or maybe 2070 though. Regardless, that has no bearing on this. When people are paying money like the Legion cost, that is not about need. It's about want. If people want to spend more money on a 3080 but they are only playing League (this is an example), then let them. People can spend their money how they want.
I'm so happy that you included Linux support to your reviewsm even though using live CD and installing/dual booting can be entirely different experiences. Still its pretty amazing you included that. Hoping it stays for all reviews
It's very nice to see your partner is also involved in your tests, always good to have a second opinion especially with the keyboard where it's completely based on personal preference
Sir, you did a great job! Thank you so much for pointing out the build quality fixes, such as the hinges and the touchpad gap!
Loved the Legion 7 review! Comprehensive, data driven, interesting, informative and even funny. This should be the benchmark for gaming laptop video reviews. Bravo and congrats!
Thanks!
YES, I was waiting for this review for a whole week. Thank you Jarrod!
i'm waiting for legion 5
@@zaki_1337 same yeah
No problem, this one took a lot of work, got it done as fast as I could!
@@JarrodsTech I’ve watched the whole review. It’s a great laptop, but now I can’t decide between this and the XMG Neo 15. Unfortunately they’re both out of stock🥲
@@JarrodsTech Please Jarrod, test the PCIe 4.0 NVMe speed of the upcoming Tiger Lake-H45 laptops. Thank you.
I am halfway through the video already so much in-depth! thank you, Jarrod! This is so helpful!
Woah! Legion 5 Pro review is coming! Can't wait. Thanks Jarrod.
So for anyone still using a 2021 model 7 or 7i like myself, I have worked out how to properly shut corsair down for battery life that is actually fantastic, even on the Intel model. The first time a few weeks back, I exited iCUE software by right clicking in task bar and exit, and then I opened task manager and closed corsair and iCUE processes. But just watching Netflix at 60% brightness with power saver mode on, in just half an hour my 100% charged battery was down to 80 percent. I had hybrid mode on with optimus enabled using the iGPU only. Why so bad? The corsair processes all reopen themselves in task manager, that's why!
I like iCUE and like to use it when plugged in. I have the 7i model with 11800h and 3070ti. But for battery, no way!
Follow these instructions and you'll be fine. Exit iCUE from taskbar as above, but then press the windows key and just type in the word services and press enter and it will take you to the services manager. Locate the corsair service and simply press "stop service". *THAT'S IT* . Even though it's set to automatic, it will NOT start up again if you do it this way, unless you open iCUE again.
The remaining 80% of my battery went from saying "1hr 20 minutes remaining" to 6 hours. Just like that. I have never known a process to suck up so much battery before.
I tested using this method today from an 100% charge and I got over 7 hours of netflix, at 70% brightness! On the Intel model! I was using on board Wi-Fi, iGPU, dynamic mode with best battery life option, and keyboard lighting off (which I turn off anyway when I watch shows). I also set the screen to 60HZ.
So with corsair truly disabled, the Legion 2021 models actually have *excellent* battery life. Just a tip if anyone else is having issues even after they have closed iCUE.
How about just installing it?? Is there any problem with doing that🤔
@@QuangTran-pm3re Installing what?
Thanks for sharing sir. I'm considering to get a 2nd hand of this laptop.
a very detailed review 👍 you should add a "pros vs cons" segment and the end with a chart. that would be great
Thank you for including the type C charging information. Another great video as always!
Lenovo is really stepping up their game this year. Last year I was really disappointed that they were using low power max q in their 2070/2070S/2080S configurations.
Extremely detailed and thorough. Thank you for the time and attention you've put into your videos, They've swayed my decision on what to get. Years ago buying a high performance gaming laptop was significantly more straight forward.
I literally haven't waited for a video more. Awesome and detailed review 👍
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, man, you covered all the questions I had. Thumbs up.
Tech improves so fast, literally got a gaming pc last year and although it’s still pretty fast this generation of gaming PCs are just so much faster
Im getting mine soon, so excited!!!
Thanks for your reviews Jarrod! After spending a ridiculous amount of time watching laptop reviews on youtube I ended up landing on your channel as you do the best most level headed reviews, and the review takes front stage, not the youtube personality :) I ended up buying the same Legion 7 model reviewed here. Also thanks for including Linux support in your reviews, it really helped on making my decision as I spend all my non-gaming time using Linux (the sound issue is still a thing but I'm confident it will get resolved eventually)
I've been subscribed and been waiting for these reviews. Lenovo has upped their laptop game immensely.
6:20 Highly appreciate your feedback on the hinge improvements. Currently watching this on an MSI with an exposed hinge
Yes, I'm excited for a legion 5 pro vs legion 7 comparation :)
Now that's what I call a review.
Great review Jarrod, surely do appreciate your work and non bias approach. the amount of work that goes into your videos must be crazy!

Something, something, cheap joke about the "partner" not liking the typing feel because it's one of his hands :D
We've been together since before the channel :) she recently started helping me with testing.
Lenovo should have used socketed cpu on this model, considering the high price point.
You are the best Review channel out there at the moment. Awesome work as always. thank you
Thank you for figuring out the response time on the monitor, I haven't found anyone else who bothered looking into it since Lenovo doesn't mention it.
Absolutely amazing, worthy successor to my Y740 eventually. Hope this comes to Canada and can last more than a few days in stock.
Thank you so much Jarrod ! I’ve been looking for a gaming laptop since several weeks now and my mind was set on the Lenovo legion 7 thanks to your detailed reviews. The Legion 7 went on sale for 25% today and I bought it immediately ! Can’t wait to receive it !

Was about to get legion 5 pro but legion 7 is cheaper here (same model with 5800h + rtx 3070).
I find it hilarious how Corsair Software is still the key issue with battery life... how have they not fixed a year later lol
Lenovo needs to get Corsair to fix their software or use something else.
I got burned by Corsair enough that I'm not willing to ever buy another Corsair item again...
Lenovo is chinese owned company and corsair is american owned company... corsair is trying to sink lenovo, pretty obvious. Drain your juice i will xd

For the Legion 5 Pro review, I'd love to see some comparison of the thermal performance versus the Legion 7, since the 7 is using a vapor chamber and the 5 Pro is using standard heat pipes. I know it's not a 1:1 comparison since there isn't a 5900HX/3080 SKU for the Legion 5 Pro, but seeing that compared might help me decide whether I want to pay the premium for the Legion 7 for the 5800H/3070 spec, or stick with the Legion 5 Pro
Thanks for pinpointing the issues about Corsair/ICue service and battery drain. I hope Lenovo learn about these and ship the laptop with non-crappy software. This is quite disappoints when consider that their hardware design is amazing.
Having the light bar not be part of the bottom cover is a very nice design touch if you ever need to open it up for upgrades/part replacements. And thank you for testing battery life with Corsair iCue disabled. The almost 10 hour battery life running 60Hz with Optimus makes this laptop a really good contender for my uni commute
If only i could subscribe twice....the hard work u put in ...thank you and keep up the good work bro

I was honestly waiting for this!
Supreme review of the Legion 7 2021 model. I ordered a Scare 15 with 32GB of ram and a 3080 16GB graphics chip. I got really fed up of waiting for the Legion 7 to be available for me to buy over here in the UK.
Thaks Jarrod. Still the best Tech Reviewer on CZcams. The Production values of your videos easily exceed much bigger channels. Kudos.
Finally! Been waiting for weeks for this video
lol
I like it when my RGB lights come with a gaming laptop
Amazing review i think you made me change from getting the legion 5 to legion 7
Excellent review, Jarrod, as always - great attention to detail, answers to important questions from the manufacturer, and nicely presented as always - everything anyone can ask for when considering a purchase! Well, on that - almost - lately I've been searching for a laptop that I can use for work outside on a relatively sunny day, but it seems no-one pays attention to it when reviewing - maybe not sensible for gaming laptops, but maybe useful to consider for other segments at least. All the best!
Now just gotta wait for this to be released in the US since this checks all the boxes for me except for the 17.3" chassis I would prefer, but the 16" is enough I think to push it above the 17" laptops I was looking at.
i am more excited for jarrod's reviews than the laptop itself
Right? I know I'll never be able to afford the computers but I can experience them vicariously through Jarrod
Thanks for the super detailed review. I picked one up.

Glad to see Lenovo is actually listening, you wouldn't be able to tell based on their response to last year's issues (or the complete lack thereof rather). Still hoping they'll update the keyboard firmware on last year's model but not holding my breath.
The team is reading all your comments, suggestions, and feedback.

@@LenovoLegionAP Great! And thank you for replying. Unfortunately the communication is a bit hit or miss. On the Lenovo forums it takes a long time to get official replies and when they do come, the replies are somewhat strange (e.g. releasing keyboard updates for the older y740 but not for last year's 7i). Customer service NL told me it's "working as designed" and "this is baked into the keyboard firmware and can't be changed" but the fact that updates are released (per Jarod in this video, and for the y740 on the forum) indicates the latter isn't true. "Working as designed" may be true but the fact that it's changed on this year's model and that you released an update for the y740 tells me you do recognize it wasn't designed well.. specifically talking about the rainbow RGB always being on during start-up and having to manually turn it off afterwards by the way. Can you tell me if we can expect an updated keyboard firmware for last year's 7i? Thanks again.

This pushed me over the edge to spec and purchase a Legion 7 16” with Ryzen, and the savings ordering directly through Lenovo really closed the deal for me. Thanks for the review, Jarrod!
Wow even the fans internal has the Legion logo. Now that's price to performance worthy.

@@gafitas05 personally, I would go 4. The new 5i Pro is good but it isn't really worth the premium that is being asked just for the newest generation (as was shown, only about a 5% increase over the previous gen with 3070). If you don't need the RGB, better trackpad and cooling, better build and thinner, the savings going with #3 is good too. If you do find a Legion 7 with i7-11800h and 3070, that's kind of the sweet spot as you get the Gen 4 SSD.

btw, I am still struggling about whether choose the Zephyrus G15 rtx3070 or this legion 7, portable is quite important for me, as I saw the legion 7 is quite bulky for talking it out.
I had the g15 from BestBuy so the 3070 model. The first one had some weird issue causing random blue screens. The only software I had installed was office 365 and nod32 antivirus. Returned it and got another one and used it for a week. No blue screen issues there.

Great review Jarrod!
Please do a review, compating the Legion 7 with the Legion 5 Pro.
Excellent video. Loved it. Hey, one question: Are you planning on doing a video about how to upgrade this laptop? Because I would like to change the default 1TB SSD for a 2TB SSD, and a video on how to do it properly, like the one you did with the Legion 5, would be pretty much appreciated, haha.
Seconded! I just ordered my 7, and I have the same plan :)
@@Taijavu Nice, good for u. Although, for what I saw in the lenovo page, if I'm lucky, they might release a pre-built model with a SSD of 2TBs. If that happens, I'm also down to buying that model, haha.
I finally have my Legion 7, top spec and it's absolutely amazing. I love it and it's worth every penny! It's stupid fast!
When I first ordered the Legion 7, I only needed a very good machine to replace my old laptop and that it won't become obsolete in 5-7 years, so I decided to buy a top spec laptop. Being able to play games on ultra settings was just a perk. Still, I never thought it would be this good. It's like comparing a Toyota Camry to a spaceship!
My old laptop needs a good 2+ minutes to start and be ready to do something, the Legion 7 is up and running in under 10 seconds. It installed NFS Heat, a 30+ GB game, while I went to the bathroom to take a piss.
GTA V, Cyberpunk 2077, Dirt 4, Forza Horizon 4, Assassin's creed and probably every other triple-A game you can think of - this computer can run it and dominate it.
Zero lag, zero stutter, incredible detail and the screen is something else. The colors, the contrast, the refresh rate... I love it!
And it's got more to give. Cyberpunk 2077 (a high demanding and buggy, still cool game) runs at high settings with ease.
It's not hot to the touch while playing games and while doing regular, boring, work stuff - the temps are at a cool 34C.
I love how subtle it looks, I use mine for work too and it doesn't look out of place in an office. Keep the RGB off and it's just another premium business laptop.
Speaking of RGB, yeah they are funky and well made, but I keep mine off. I do appreciate that whenever you press the function button, shortcut keys light up tho.
Just bought the same one , do you find there is anything I need to know to optimize the Rgb software to limit with the iQue software
@@bumpydevoshire1067 I actually got mine without iQue and the gaming bloatware.
Clean Windows 10 Professional install and all drivers updated, the rest was up to me. I only have the factory RGB functions, but as I said - not a big fan of RGB, so I keep mine off, or if I'm using the computer in the dark, the standard blue lighting is more than adequate.
Does ryzen one has muck switch?

@@swapnilshakya5968 I had to google that. Yes it has a MUX switch, it's called hybrid mode.
That head tracking feature actually sounds pretty dope
Just an update for others looking at this in the future. I just bought this as my first ever gaming/video editing laptop! Very excited as I dont need the newest 7th gen at this time. It's currently priced at $2199.99 but I CALLED instead of ordering online and was able to negotiate down and save about $250 :). Can't wait for it to arrive!
Nice one! Hope you like it!
