Level 200+ Gear and Gold Stars explained! Nioh Dragon of the North

- Today I want to talk about level 200 + gear and the gold stars on special effects on weapons and armor. Nioh Dragon of the North and patch 1.07 introduces a ton of new features and content for us to play around with. Unfortunately they gave us no clarification on how some of it works. This is why I am bringing you this video today.
Many people have asked how to specifically get level 200+ weapons and armor and I believed it to be completely random. After a few days testing and forging I found out I was wrong. The glowing red enemies and Yokai in the Way of the Demon difficulty are the only way to get drops for 200+ level gear to my knowledge. Every piece of level 200 + gear I found was dropped by a glowing red enemy.
For the gold stars that come up on the special effects on your weapons and armor, it seems that they are very very rare rolls that go outside of what that piece of gear could normally roll. You can have AA+ ratings now along with big skill bonuses added to weapons that are either dropped or forged at the blacksmith. These can not be re-rolled by reforging at the blacksmith however, and no material can create a gold star. If an effect in next to a gold star however that you do not like you can roll that stat off by reforging, but it will never go back to that stat again so be careful.

Welcome to the channel today I am going to show you how to get better weapons and armor in Nioh by using my updated step by step Blacksmith tutorial. You may have seen my beta blacksmith tutorial, but it is outdated so I am bringing you a new version.
There are many new features to the blacksmith that we didnt have in the beta, such as forge and disassemble. In Nioh Disassemble lets you break down weapons and armor you have collected into different crafting materials (high quality, higher quality, and highest quality). With forge you can upgrade those Nioh blacksmith materials and forge new weapons and armor. When forging one thing to keep in mind is that you only have a CHANCE to roll a highest quality weapon, it is not guaranteed. A few notes from my last blacksmith tutorial:
Welcome to the channel, this is tracerbeast bringing you a Nioh blacksmith tutorial with tips and a Muneshige boss walk through. So I have seen plenty of videos and comments saying that the blacksmith is not available in the Nioh Beta. This is not true at all! While some of the features are not available in the beta, you can use the blacksmith to soul match and reforge weapons and armor and get the best out of your gear. There is only a small notification after you finish the deep in the shadows mission that you have unlocked the blacksmith so this feature has been overlooked. You access the blacksmith in Nioh by going to the starting point and looking through the menu. There is no tutorial on how to use the blacksmith in game, it is all trial and error and can cause you to ruin some of your gear but I will show you the gameplay. That is why I am bringing you this Nioh blacksmith tutorial, to help you from making a mistake when soul matching or reforging. So the Nioh blacksmith has three features: Buy/sell weapons, Soul match, and reforge. Buy and sell is a pretty standard blacksmith feature and not worth any attention as the weapons for sale are low level and without any rarity. Soul match is the ability in the blacksmith in which you can upgrade the level of a piece of gear by sacrificing another piece of gear at a higher level. Reforge is the ability in the blacksmith to reroll a single property of that weapons stats. The best time to use the blacksmith is after you have completed the Muneshige fight because he drops the highest level gear in this demo. - Hry

these glowing yokai can drop amazing stuff .I got yasakani drop from glowing one eyed oni 😁 . I guess I'll be farming those things instead of bosses now.
I am looking for the best spot to farm them, not quite there though. Demon King revealed is pretty good though.
Excellent work mate. So what I've been concluding by my own testing as well is that they "removed" the 160 luck-forging process (once upon a time the best stuff you could get) and they replaced it with this new "Stars & Above 200 Lvl Stuff" standard. As I see it, now to get top-tier stuff you need to be even more grindy. Not complaining, love the process but they didn't make it any easier.

Multiple people, myself include, have confirmed that you can get 200+ gear as mission rewards drops on way of the demon on the dlc missions. Hands of the dragon is great because it has 4 drops. Other than that it is red enemies exclusively.
There is a star 100, 300 or 500 health for chest, also a star 65 defence for chest, and a star attack of 35 for gloves which is useless cuz it caps out at 40 attack with full fam (maybe bugged?) and then theres a star 25 attack and defence for each weapon type, for gloves,
that's all I've found so far for armor.
I saw a mask today with 1500 health
I got a whole bunch of divine gear with golden stars. I didn't know they didn't normally come with them despite being rare. I sold or soul matched most of them just for + levels on my red demon armor set
I've read that the gold star indicates an innate skill tied to that item, so every copy of that item will always come with that Skill and can't be removed. So for instance, if a revenant drops an item with a starred effect, that effect will be the only one that stays on the item while the other effects would be re-rolled.
thats the little hexagon symbol. those are inherit bonuses for the item and will always be there/can't be reforged.
Odd question: Do the elemental stats on your weapon effect your LW? I read somewhere that LW doesn't scale off of any element on your weapon.
How do I do as much damage as your doing? What do I need to put points into?
lol i actually forgot i could soul match my gear to level them up, that demon mode is no joke. i was getting one shoted by some yokai
it didn't have a star by it, but it was purple. "Everlasting Ki" which I believe acts like unlimited ninjutsu, omnyo, etc. But with Ki. Currently lucked into reforging up to 63%. Haven't fully tested the effect yet.
The other in purple, is omnyo protection amulet. Seems to completely negate onmyo attacks, if you block it.
Been working on non-set builds, focused on obtain specific special effects.

One suggestion if I may. There is an underlying assumption that the people watching are up to date/cutting edge. While I myself often know what you are referring to, it might be nice to go into explanations or add details to things that front line active players know, but the more causal players or people coming back from a break may not.

I believe I've managed to reforge and get a star, only once, and it was the soul match cost reduction, I'll get a picture/short video if I manage to do it again. But I've only gotten it once, on my head gear piece (I believe, I was on like 2 hours of sleep over a 48 hour period.)
I was trying to get 200 gear all through way of the demon I noticed it raises with each region omi region is where you finally get 200 gear an I'm just getting a crap load every mission when doing omi region missions
can you remove or reforge inherited abilities some way?
I need a Change to Attack (Dexterity) for my 2nd character's Kusarigama, what's the best way to get it? Reforging or forging? I already gave up on reforging cause I got tired of save scumming. I still didnt try forging.
Any tips?
Forging will cost tons of mats and gold, I personally used all of my mats ( and I had thousands) and could only get one CTA roll and it was random. Reforging will be cheaper in the long run, but those are still difficult to roll with all the new stats added. Skill and Body will be just as effective if you have the CTA stat for them, you would just have to max the stat out. Hope it helps!

How about tea house compared to the forge ?
I haven't extensively tested the tea house, but from what I have tried it seems to give better results to get star rolls. I haven't put any more than 30,000 glory to try this. So with that small amount of data I am only speculating.
AAA+ Is highest for bonus? Next dlc S, SS, SSS kek?
P sure the Stars only happen when the item is created, e.g. drop/forge only. Not reforge.
Can someone check if this is only exclusive for the dlc? I haven't got the dlc and I'm forging for DAYS to have that nightrain star effect. So far all I'm getting in my level 150 forged Ishidas is soul matching cost reduction up to 80%. Im starting to hate this game because of the dlc paywall that affects these builds.
what build are you using?
So I realize everything about forging is RNG but anyone able to verify that star effects specifically skill damage types are exclusive to having bought the DLC only?
What I mean is I am trying to get Skill Damage Nightrain on the Ishida katana it is a star effect. I have only ever seen a Reduced soul match cost star effect on anything forged.
I don't have the DLC atm so I am wondering if the DLC is needed to "enable" these new specific rare star effects for specific skill damage or change to attack effects.
RowdyRaginRosco 1985 me too ive been forging ishidas for days. Only soul matching cost reduction shows up. i haven't got the dlc either, can someone confirm this?
I got a soul matching reduction cost star on a helmet, despite I wear it the cost won't be reduced, I choose the exact same weapons (base and to be sacrificed) with and without the helmet on and the cost doesn't change at all.
Why is this happening? what do I have to do to activate the reduction cost?

You want to farm Omi and Tohaku regions, they have the highest mission levels and enemy levels so you are more likely to get drops.
I made a 6 slot non intheritable with gold star CTA Dex A but it only goes to AA-...the fact there's a plus version of this will drive me fucking insane lol

I sell so many gud items I use daibawashi nd itokuri both spirits lvl 50 my store always full v best items always confuse why I sell or not compare this game other souls game very easy
My gawd over 20k a hit, I'm only sporting 150 +8 weapons and gear, and doing maybe 4k a hit, the struggle is real, taking forever, and so difficulty when you are level 190, and your progression quest are levels 340-360
so without the dlc max gear lvl is160 (+10)?

Not that I am aware of, I just added attack to a few pieces of gear today without any problems. But I was swapping them from gear I don't use anymore and they weren't actually gloves.

Remember you have to have full familiarity on both items. Not sure if that was the problem.
Joshua Henson It could be not having max familiarity on both items, or were they both the same rarity and also did you already have all the special stats that could be on that piece of gear since that would stop you from inheriting the effect. Sometimes you have to reforge one of those special stats so another one can be inherited

Is kusarigama really a shit weapon because every CZcams I see with a kusarigama build only spams blade spin using Kara-jishi and nothing else
to answer your question no kusrigama is an amazing weapon blade spin is just OP
The Ender I use other moves but much like Bayblade, you gotta let it rip!
I don't know why everyone is using Kara-jishi when Kato is 10x better.
You get from it Close Combat attack 14%, Skill dmg 21%, and Close Combat Attack Critical 29% for a total of 65% dmg when using Blade Spin.
Crash Gaming I've been using Kato too with the bat as a secondary for damage from behind

The 200 gear must have other factors. I'm killing red glowing yokai and only getting 180.

You will only find 200+ gear reliably in Omi and Tohaku regions. You will not be getting them constantly, but I usually find one each run on The Demon King Revealed mission.
Yep yur right! I'm in Omi now and 200 is almost all that drops. Also, I'm hearing 200 is the level cap. I picked up a 206 piece of armor. Is that normal?

Not to be OC with the pronunciation but I think it would help prevent further mistakes from happening in the future. It's not "Haiki Yagyo" or "Hikey Yagyo". The correct way of saying it is "Hyakki Yagyo" or "Hyakki Yakkou" or "Hyakki Yakko" (Sounds like Yucky with an H at the beginning. Yakko/Yakkou sounds like Yuck-o similar to Jack-O.). It means Night Parade of a Hundred Demons or just a parade of many demons when used in common slang.

This game is such a mind fuck with the gear, I'm level 170 and I still get destroyed. The ninja/magic doesn't work for me. Grinding is to hard and takes way to long.
P.S i don't get what is so special about that amulet. Yeah so wut if it -1 set requirements, it's not like you can't just get the req by 200-400.
I prefer getting the actual requirement and different charms to support build but whatever..
-1 set requirement can be huge depending on the set you use it with. Take Fanatic's. Its two piece is CCD (crit) +20%. So wit htaht amulet you can use 1 piece of Fanatic's for 20% more damage for LW crit builds. Its cause of reasons like that that the amulet is a must for min-maxing
Oh thats not what I thought it was. I was thinking it was like gear has min stat requirements and that -1 off those requirements, not it makes sets need less, thats derp, ignore me!!.

I havent even seen any weapons over 151+ yet, and I m level 147 and all the armor and weapons that drops are only 150. Also, why is this game so stingy on the + weapons, I have a 150+4 weapon and 150+3 armor, but they game keeps dropping me either 150 or 150+1 weapons/armors. This game is super fun for the most part, but grind is so frustrating and boring.
PS. I think the BS girl will only sell the Yasakani Magatama if you already have one(different perk rolls), cause I have checked her inventory over 100 times since DLC and she has never had it for sale. Everyone else who has claimed that she sold this item has already had a Yasakani Magatama.
Jesus...guess I really didn't need to waste my time in way of the strong. Only a couple of side missions away from completing way of the strong, but didn't do any dojo missions or maboroshi, so way of the demon didn't unlock. such a waste of time smh.
To unlock Way of Demon you just have to finish Queen's Eyes mission. You don't have to do any other missions in between, but just have that last mission unlocked. I believe it unlocks after finishing up the 3rd region.
this is not fair for me i've killed countless red yokai with almost 600 hours. a few high level armors and zero 200+ weapons. how can this grind be worse than diablo? i guess it is
Just made a video about where to farm them, anything past Omi region is really your best chance.
What does easy target mean on weapons
Enemies will be more likely to target you instead of teammates. Useless in single play.
Maybe it's super obvious but I guess you have to be lvl 200 to actualy start finding lvl 200 gear?
You don't have to be level 200, but you have to be in Way of the Demon Difficulty and you have to defeat a mission in the fourth region to start forging them. They start to drop in the last few regions.

Way of the desk is truely the most difficult thing to do in this game. At least 10x more challenging than way of the demon.
To actually answer your question, a good set plus high lvl gear plus high lvl character makes this easy mode. Im lvl 365 with a listed damage of 2520. I kill everything in 1 to 2 hits no matter what.

I wanna use that spinning chain weapon but the highest I can find of that is like 1100

The goal is too add different damages from sets together. I suggest you using a mix of Kingo's and Warrior of the Wast to maximize damage. For your spirit, use either Kato or Kara-jishi. Use skills, a lot. That spinning attack he's using is a skill. Skills by default (except for the kicks) do more damage than attacks so use them religiously.
As for weapons, swords are actually really bad in terms of DPS late game. Sword of execution is a powerful trait, but swords only manage to do decentyl well if you can stack a lot of CCD and damage form behind. Swords lack any real skill that does good damage. Iai Quickdraw can be bothersome to use, and that's probably the most damaging one. I personally use a spear, and I do about 90% of the damage he is doing.
He's also using a level 200+20 weapon (max possible level) with very good weapon modifiers. My spear, currently 205+17, has an attack of 1999.
You'll need to level up your gear and adjust spirits to match that damage.
