  • Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has released its official extended trailer for Rings of power at San Diego Comic-Con International. SDCC had LOTR guest panels where the cast gave interviews such as Sophia Nomvete who plays Disa and Cynthia Addai-Robinson who plays Miriel.
These cast members were more than happy to talk about how J. R. R. Tolkien had created a world they would ignore. Because the conversations had changed, and now it's time for a modern lens.

There is so much to talk about when it comes to Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from SDCC. Panels at San Diego Comic-con themselves, interviews and a whole host of the usual insane articles that you can expect from modern day entertainment journalists. It's going to be interesting! But was the trailer what you expected, did you like any of it? What did you think of the cast members interviews, do they reassure you or would they have been better keeping quiet? Let me know your thoughts below and as always, thanks for watching :)

But Amazon clearly have just as much passion to respect and honour Tolkien's legacy based on these quotes:
From Vanity Fair: _"The forging of the rings," says Showrunner Patrick McKay. "Rings for elves, rings for dwarves, rings for men, and the one ring Sauron used to deceive them all. It's the story of creation of all those powers, where they came from, and what they did to each of those races." The driving question behind the production, he adds, was this: "Can we _*_come up with the novel Tolkien never wrote_*_ and do it as a mega-event series that could only happen now?"_
Oh.. wait. He is speaking about the forging of the rings of power, and the stories that happened during that time period and what happened as a result. Which were written about in novels that Tolkien wrote. But due to legal reasons, they are literally having to write their own version.
_''We took all these little clues and thought of them as stars in the sky that we then connected to _*_write the novel that Tolkien never wrote_*_ about the Second Age”_ RoP Showrunner J.D Payne ..they seem pretty intent on just writing their own story and adapting it.. they seem almost proud of the fact that it's not Tolkien's actual work
Patrick McKay on Galadriel: _“She’s full of piss and vinegar and she’s got a sword that’s broken because she’s killed so many orcs”_ (sigh. not entirely relevant, but a good quote to better understand their mindset)
_“It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like''_ Lindsay Webber, RoP executive producer (that's in reference to the introduction of a diverse-cast, ie politics. If they truly cared they'd have actually adapted the stories of the diverse cultures of Middle Earth)
okay the conclusion is they're full of shyte.

Both Cary Joji Fukunaga and Phoebe Waller-Bridge described James Bond as a psychopathic rapist whose adventures were problematic and needed to be more progressive. Who would agree to produce and write for a franchise they hated unless they just saw it as a vehicle for their own agenda?

The tragedy of this is from the total lack of awareness of the works of Tolkien and why they ARE a global success. Not only was Tolkien a writer but also a scholar. He weaved his tales with grace and humility. The themes he entrenched in them are timeless. The so called 'updating' for a modern generation is hubris from this motley collection of egotists. They do not care of the art created by Tolkien nor the inspiration it has given millions since its release. Tolkien did not write this on a whim. He did not write this as a vehicle for future hacks to revel and glorify in. He created an epic of monumental proportions. He fleshed out each character, land, being and belief with careful detail. He made a human a tale to last the ages. He took inspiration from the Eddic Sagas of Iceland, the early Proto-English and Germanic works of Beowulf, Sigurd and Kelluvor. He combined them with his faith. He made a concept the Mammon inspired hacks of Amazon could not hold a light to. They cannot wield the prose of Tolkiens words so they attempt to dilute and divest it. They cannot generate the imagination he beheld of the light his words emanated, so they try and hide it in their shade of corpulence's. Their self-aggrandising natures show them to be more akin to the works of Morgoth rather than the Valar. They corrupt the elves as Melkor did to create the orcs. They twist the stories to suit their own foolish means. They care little for the future as they can only see themselves in the present.
In this darkest of hours we can only wait for the rising of the dawn when the light of good shall prevail on these minions of the dark. Standing firm in this last bastion of the believers in Tolkiens work we can but hope the light will shine again.

The story is mentioned multiple times in the original LoTR.

I realize her arc was mostly cut for time, but the resulting impression people got, even in the extended edition, was that she was a hysterical female who threw herself into battle when a man rejected her, but was cured by another man. This is not what happens in the books, of course.
Iirc, shield maidens were intended to defend the civilians in the event of a surprise attack while the army was out. In this context, Eowyn in the books rightly noted that they lacked the force to do any good if it came to that: If she ever got to fight in that role they were all doomed anyway.
He is speaking about the forging of the rings of power, and the stories that happened during that time period and what happened as a result. Which were written about in novels that Tolkien wrote. But due to legal reasons, they are literally having to write their own version.
_''We took all these little clues and thought of them as stars in the sky that we then connected to _*_write the novel that Tolkien never wrote_*_ about the Second Age”_ RoP Showrunner J.D Payne .. they seem almost proud that this isn't actually Tolkien's work?
Patrick McKay on Galadriel: _“She’s full of piss and vinegar and she’s got a sword that’s broken because she’s killed so many orcs”_ (sigh. not entirely relevant, but a good quote to better understand their mindset)
_“It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like''_ Lindsay Webber, RoP executive producer (that's in reference to the introduction of a diverse-cast, ie politics. If they truly cared they'd have actually adapted the stories of the diverse cultures of Middle Earth)
What baffles me more than all this nonsense are the people still vehemently insisting this is Tolkien and will be accurate to his vision. they keep saying ''you haven't even seen it you're just jumping on the hate bandwagon for clout'' ....erm no. I literally read and listened to the showrunners loudly and repeatedly stating that this isn't Tolkien and that they wrote their own story to adapt into a TV series because for legal reasons they cannot actually adapt Tolkien's Second Age stories.
Just for fun though, let's see what Tolkien himself would say about this:
_''I would ask them to make an effort of imagination sufficient to understand the irritation (and on occasion the resentment) of an author, who finds, increasingly as he proceeds, his work treated as it would seem carelessly in general, in places recklessly, and with no evident signs of any appreciation of what it is all about. The canons of narrative in any medium _*_cannot be wholly different;_*_ and the failure of poor films is _*_often precisely in exaggeration, and in the intrusion of unwarranted matter_*_ owing to not perceiving where the core of the original lies''_ letter 210, on bad adaptations of his work

But there's only one reason to buy a property you're not really interested in adapting, and that is to trick a pre-existing audience into believing that you're making something you're not ... and that is a different thing entirely.

With the money that Amazon is going to be willing to dump into this thing, technically the show won't fail. It will last for five seasons based on the bank roll of the parent company and the people who have decided to be fans of it will point to its longevity and equate that to being a sign of its quality. It will just be another divisive product that was forced on us from a company that had more money than common sense.

With the Jackson films, most of the actors hadn't read LotR before being cast, but they not only read the books and familiarized themselves with his work, but also studied up on Tolkien's life and mentioned that A LOT in cast interviews. They talked a lot about how the books and "how would Tolkien feel about this scene? How would Tolkien present this character? What was he thinking/feeling when he wrote it?" affected their performances. Honestly, I HIGHLY DOUBT that many (if any) of these adult pretenders in RoP have read any of Tolkien's works- probably just their scripts.

I then diverted via every Narnia book and then returned to Lord of the Rings getting to around half way through before she grew just a little too old to just listen, and wanted something more interactive. She knows Smaug, she knows who Sam and Frodo were (because I made her a hobbit hole shelf diorama that is on the wall in her playroom) and she is most excited about the coming Christmas because that is when we watch every extended edition from the original six movies back to back over the weeks running up...
