Back again Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at San Diego Comic-con, this time with several of the cast interview panels that happened, some was predictable, we've heard it all before. But what do these interviews make you think about the Rings of Power, were you re-assured that many of them kept their discussions to the show and their characters? Or are you concerned with all the talk about interpreting the books and putting themselves and the real world into their characters? Let me know your thoughts below, and as always, thanks for watching :)
....Did you insinuated Amazon did research on Tolkie's work?? At best they did pillaging.
My assurance is not guaranteed nor wavering.
I do not look forward to Sept. 2nd, but I will suffer the tripe they offer, and offer my eyes and ears as a sacrifice to those who would not bear it.
Basically, I'll be a guinea pig for the rest of y'all, and don't y'all forget it.
God speed, @disparu and the work you do. Always enjoyable.
So they admit to killing the lore because they felt like it, and then they follow that up by making fun of us because they know we are correct.....
Impeccable logic there Amazon. Glad I canceled my subscription a month ago
@@CzechTex good luck. It may actually kill you. Brave man
All these actors and actresses, they know very little about and nor do they care for the English Myth that Tolkien dedicated much of his life to. They are willing participants in taking the proverbial crap on the entirety of Tolkien's meaningful and noble story, including one of the most loyal and oldest fan bases to date. If Tolkien would have the misfortune to witness this perversion of his work, that has hooked into his epic like a giant tapeworm, I'm absolutely convinced he would turn around in his grave so often, he would himself eventually end up in the Middle of the Earth.
As a woman myself, as well as a life-long die-hard Tolkien nerd, I was never EVER once bothered by the "lack of female representation in Tolkien." Because, for one, that's not true, and also I loved all the male characters and could empathize with them. I always related to Bilbo and Frodo especially, being a very small person myself, I imagined I could be like them and do great things. Never bothered me that they had XY chromosomes and mine were XX.
It's like Eowyn just went avdii kadivii instead of beating the witch king's ass (with an assist from Merry). Goldberry the river daughter, wife of Tom Bombadil. Galadriel, holder of one of the three elf rings. Elwing mother of Elrond, Arwen his daughter. Yeah if that's not representation I don't know what is.
As a woman myself

This interview screams "we want to make history" rather than "we want to tell a well-written compelling story based on the works of a masterful author and storyteller." Pride goeth before the fall. That is all I can say.
You have absolutely no idea what could be in this show.

I love that the actress playing the Dwarven princess is openly implying that she is the first actress to ever audition for a role shortly after giving birth, the first actress to ever have accommodations for breastfeeding while working, and the first ever fantasy character that black girls and women could relate to. She must be the most amazing human to ever live.
They also claimed she was the first female dwarf shown in movies, but female dwarves were shown in several scenes in the Hobbit movies.
@@rhenmerchant5715 Not to mention the female Nelwyns in _Willow._
Narcissistic sociopaths always think they are the first to do something, or to have something done to them. They also LOVE to bring up over and over very minor instances of them doing things that every normal, mature human being shouldn't and doesn't expect praise and adoration for. The entire cast and crew is just an orgy of these people, exactly like this. The show is guaranteed to be garbage. Its amazing to me that these people could actually produce ANYTHING, given that people like this literally cannot stop talking about themselves, making efficient dialogue all but impossible. There has to be a ring leader type that has the job of daily and consistently stroking their egos in order to get them to do what needs to be done.

“The writers give women such agency…they don’t serve the men around them” that’s kinda weird considering the type of world and era that Tolkien’s work is set in. The very fact Eowyn fought with men was considered unique and uncommon. Even among elven culture, women were users of magic and knowledge, not swords and combat. Then she goes on about being an activist. Why the fuck do all these actors think anyone gives two shits about them, it’s Tolkien’s work we like, not them and their terrible interpretation of it
I worked at comic con for IMBD and was around all these people and those who work with them. I worked in a VIP area and there was a photo op booth of Galadriels dagger in the ice wall from the trailer. 90% of the people who took photos with it didn't know what it was at all (even tho there were signs for it) even after I told them it was for Rings Of Power, lots of people thought it was a pull the sword out of stone thing. The photo booth was made so cheaply the dagger broke 3 times during the con. I thought it all hilariously represented the show.
It warms my heart that these people knew about the Sword in the Stone. Not ALL culture has been killed off yet.
The show on the other hand worth billion $.
Let's hope they didin't just flush it down the drain oh wait they did
That's called "foreshadowing" my dude... 😂😹🤣...
Using a dagger to brace yourself from falling was disproved by Myth busters quite a while ago, anyway. A tired trope discredited some time ago.
@@danielrichwine2268 But to be fair, I do not think Mythbusters accounted for Galadriel's elven dagger of +5 enchantment in their calculations. :)
Tolkien wasn't someone that thought fondly of the future..he thought fondly of the past. Each age has a huge loss of power, history, and knowledge. The 3rd Age is the weakest state of the 3. He is someone that would NEVER think "let the past die"
And the free peoples of middle earth were on the verge of destruction because of it.
Underrated comment.
Tolkien's work was about medievalism which is a romantic notion of all things medieval. It makes sense. Tolkien came from the era of the Romantics, and as a Linguist trying to provide a sort of common Anglo-Saxon mythology, this romanticism of the middle ages is the way to go. He lived during the era of industrialism, and while some of the things were good, the step towards the future seemed bleak, full of smog and a lack of greenery. Of course he wasn't entirely correct, but he was writing from his time where technology was loud and gritty in many ways and the cities became more prominent than rural areas. He wasn't writing optimistic future of Star Trek. He wasn't writing about his time either. He was writing about the past and the sublime aspects of it.
Yes and Elendil is the last man on middle earth who would say such a thing. I know that was put in there to spite the fans just like the did with the last jedi, but because so many of us have read the books and source material, i think they gave that like to Elendil to to put salt on the wound.
@@Usapyon_0719 exactly. Telling someone to let the "past die" is literally something Morgoth or Sauron would say. Definitely not one of Tolkiens heroes.
These showrunners world view is such that they can not understand the themes and thus you have the heroes adhering to morgoth (satans) ideology. Which ironically is their own. They can't tell that they, the showrunners, are the very evil Tolkien wrote about when he said "evil can not create, it can only corrupt".
Whomever stated they hired “activists” and not “actors” for these roles - you were right on the money!
the most entertaining part of these interviews is seeing Colbert's reaction and quite masked disdain in the lack of knowledge these people have about LOTR, since he lives for Tolkien. As a woman and actor I am always baffled when people say there are no female leads or representation in media, yet I grew up surrounded by really strong female characters and as an actor "People do your job and research the material when you get the role!"
The part about the elf guy bringing part of his own culture into his character is brutally insulting. Your are an ACTOR, you are supposed to play PARTS. Art, like comedy, is DEAD.
He’s an idiot

It sounds like almost the entire cast is deluded.
Yeah, lets just be ourselves on the screen... This is morons and not actors. Imagine Johnny Depp played as RL himself in Pirates of Caribbean? What a borring character that would be!
@@fjh3501 i don’t think it just sounds like it mate haha
Yes, insulting to European culture.
I'm a woman and this is an embarrassment to women.
YES!
I too distance myself from that idiot in a pink dress.
I've got to say, I loved Colbert's expressions throughout the interview. You could tell he was not happy and was biting his tongue. Unlike Oswalt, Colbert is a HUGE Tolkien nerd. He can recite everything from the Silmarillion from memory. As much as I don't like his show or his takes, this was clearly painful for him. Which on the other hand I'm glad it was. He sold out to do the interview in the first place, but at least everyone could tell how he was really feeling deep down. The question about Elf hair and his reaction to the answer are chef's kiss.
He definitely knew that she wasn’t the first female Tolkien dwarf on screen but he agreed to ask that question anyway. One would think that the man has enough money and doesn’t need to sell out like this anymore. Well, apparently he does.
The difference in quality and views between the LOTR cast interviews and Rings of Power is absolutely ridiculous.
My favorite part was when Galadriel and the ewok got into the Tardis. They set their phasers on stun for their night on the town in Wakanda. I laughed until I cried. 10/10. J.R.R. Martin will be so proud of Amazon's faithful adaptation.
Don't forget the part where the Doctor breaks the 4th wall and says "quel dommage!" at the audience before flipping them off. And the St. John's sticker on the door has been replaced with a rainbow flag.
Real humans can write a great comment like that, bringing together various fan franchises. Meanwhile, it seems like almost the entirety of hollywood wouldn't get it. They don't watch these shows. They hate these shows. Do these lizard demons watch anything for fun? Or do they all only do coke and junk in their free time? They're too weird.
I loved when Master Roshi showed up
@@Laughingcoyote1213 Yes, Roshi's Kamehameha took out Glaurung's wings!

finally someone who talks about these ladies in the hobbit, I had the impression that no one remembered. If we count the starving mother with her baby, the two merchants from the beginning and the one that Thorin helps to flee, we see 4 dwarfs ladies! Buy you eyes people!
You're not the first female dwarf. You're something even rarer, the first female dick. Congrats on making history. 😂
I'm not concerned with them putting their own stamp on a character that has very little written about them so long as you stay true to the spirit of the lore. The Strider of the books is very different to the Strider of the films but both Jackson and Mortenson stayed true to the spirit of the lore surrounding him. Sure he was a reluctant hero but character of the man remained. This is where Amazon are going wrong, not putting their own interpretation on a character, but putting an interpretation that does not remain true to Tolkien's vision.
"You're an actor. You're meant to be in their shoes, not them in yours." Good GOD, yes!
I see a lot of "Its all about ME" rather than its all about Tolkien, the story, the history and the opportunity to recreate his wonderful works.
Spot on.
Ironically the ME being represented in these shows ain't even watching the show. They are spending more of their lives constantly looking at themselves in a mirror and questioning whether they identify as a lizard or a dolphin or a non binary plant. While normal people with normal lives and jobs, who like movies, good stories and entertainment (to escape their mundane lives) have to suffer with these out of place/ FORCED INTO/SHOVED DOWN OUR THROAT representations. It's absolutely moronic. Hard working normal people who marry and have kids like normal people, deserve better. These days if you say you are straight, people will say you are homophobic, transphobic or whatever. But there's such a thing as being normal and there is nothing wrong with being normal.
To quote Mauler when I hear a cast member speak: “Please stop talking, any time you say anything makes your dumpster fire of a show self apply gasoline”.
They can't help themselves. They are so entrenched in their Hollywood bubble, so far up their own asses, that they have no choice but to educate the peasants, er, I mean fans.
The Hollywood folks are the aristocracy, after all.

With every example like this one I thinking more and more that gate keeping is good. Which isn’t a right thought to have
They really wanted it. Tolkien is a very specific and high kind of wholesome, with strong Christian allegory. “The Message” must conquer all.

There are no fans of RoP, cos its not out. But the are thousands and thousands of people, like you, hating a thing that its not out cos people you like say so. Why dont you just try to have your own opinion, based on the actual quality of the show and not in interviews?

Frankly it sounds like they just LARPed the whole series. Everyone was just given a character and told to make up their own personality and motivations. Im sure that will turn out well
@@calvinwilson3617 imagine being part of a billion dollar production and you did so little research as an actor you cant even name what group of elves your character belongs to.
I'm so thankful to amazon that I found your channel, your videos are a treat 👌
I've started mentally and physically preparing myself for your video Disparu. I keep my 1st Edition Lord of the Rings book close to hand, a strong black coffee, a sick bucket and a box of tissues. After I've finished my children usually find me curdled up in a corner sobbing gently but I have to watch it and you do make it sound funny.
Did you read the books ? No.
Did you see the movies ? A long time ago.
Want millions of dollars to make show about the lore of these books you never read and the movies you barely saw? Yes.
As an actor myself, though mostly for stage, I will add my two cents. In my experience, the performing arts have become a place where you are only welcome if your feedback or opinions are positive. If you have anything negative, anything that causes even the slightest conflict, anything that even has the potential to make someone feel bad or insecure, you will be looked upon with disdain and discouragement. It is so self aggrandizing, that people praise each other, simply to make themselves appear virtuous. And it is often the people who are the least worthy, that recieve the most praise, because otherwise they might be forced to reconcile with the fact that they made a mistake, or aren't as good or special as they think they are. So you have people endlessly showering each other with love and praise, and anyone who has an actual opinion is forced by fear, into keeping quite, or speaking up and being blacklisted.
Yep. The whole entertainment industry exists in an echo chamber. Just a bunch of coastal city liberals jerking each other off. They literally cannot fathom why all their movies and games keep flopping. They genuinely believe "russian bots" are to blame for their shit getting review bombed all the time.
Well said
I thought that about Charles Edwards (playing Celebrimbor) who is one of the more experienced actors in the cast, when he said "the door is open" to the showrunners for exploring his character. He's actually read the books, so he'll know what they're doing wrong, but he also knows it won't fly to badmouth them. On the other side, some of the other actors, ones not as capable as him, clearly just wanted to express their activism.
Its hapening everywhere, its the feminization of the world
Listened to a podcast a few days ago with a psychologist that called this prevelant mindset in today's life "toxic positivity." Pretty much as you described, people being absolutely pressured into only conveying positive emotions

And the crowd goes wild.
I like how people are now saying they are activists instead of actors. If I heard that, I wouldn't hire them, because activists are nothing but trouble, always "improving" things. Sounds like there are a lot of activists in this show, and that's why it's going to suck.
@@passive101 Only if they're white.
It's okay to replace white characters with minorities.
There are the activists of yesteryear and there are the "activists" of today. The former are the type to hold demonstrations in the streets in defiance of real dictatorships with guns pointed at them. The latter just virtue signal or something.
if you aren´t a woke political activist you won´t get hired in Hollywood.
An actor is someone who DOES AS THEY ARE TOLD. As we can see, these people HATE to do what they are told. They are certainly NOT actors.
“We don’t serve the men around us, we have agency” this is an absolutely freaking hilarious line considering the context of TOLKIEN. Funnily enough, if you take someone like Eowyn, you can see that she did serve the men around her in fulfilling her duties, but also had plenty of agency. The two are not mutually exclusive. And I’m sorry, but if you’re going to operate in the world of Tolkien, his fantasy is based on and heavily inspired by real world cultures and the traditional gender roles definitely carried over. It’s just so mind-numbing to hear these people wax on about how they’re subverting tradition when they’re working on a project that is (supposedly) inspired by one of the most traditionally minded literary figures of the 20th century
Yeah pretty much everyone in lotr served atleast someone, even Gandalf 😅 and the list goes on... To pretty much everyone.
I agree, that comment was so disappointing and so??? Like, did we watch the same movies/read the same books? By that reasoning, every nurse, every waiter, every soldier, etc has no agency, because they too serve someone. I suspect that comment by Boniadi was referring to Arwen, whose storyline did involve romance exclusively (because love isn't the most important thing when it involves the love between a woman and a man). But what she completely forgets is that everyone around Arwen is trying to persuade her into changing her mind about staying in Middle Earth and becoming mortal, thus trying to undermine her agency - even Aragorn tries to do that. And don't get me started on Eowyn. Eowyn going into battle had a good ending because she killed the Witch King - and survived. But everyone misses the fact that she was the last of the line, she had the duty to protect and guide the people of Rohan in the (likely) case king Theoden and her brother Eomer, the heir, died in battle. Had they died and had she died in battle, who would have been left to be king? This could have had terrible consequences!
On a similar tack, some of Tolkien's racial depictions are problematic today e.g. with the Haradrim being Arab or black and the Easterlings 'swarthy' (Tolkien was not a racist but like many people of his day he was racially insensitive), but some of that can be worked around or ameliorated. Completely changing the mythology is another thing though. Black people on Numenor doesn't make sense even though it was at the Equator because they were all descendants of the Edain. It's a balance this show doesn't seem to have succeeded at.
@@squamish4244 Funny thing is their entire claim that Numenor is in the Equator is factually wrong, at least if I remember my lore correctly, since the world at that time was flat... It was not until Numenor sank under the sea and Valinor removed that world became a globe...
I believe that Tolkien was not racially insensitive, personally speaking that term does not apply to any works of fiction/fantasy especially when the main point is a war between races.
Too many women don't understand that throughout history men didn't subjugate all women. We worked together, cooperatively to slowly build civilization. We have too much free time and technology to accurately empathize with our ancestors. Surviving was hard and dividing the work through gender roles served everyone. Men mostly did body breaking manual labor while the women took care of the home and children. Both were important and very few had the luxury of sitting around while benefiting from the service of others. That comment reeks of gaudy self entitlement and modern day privilege.
I wondered where the sandwich thing was going.
Nice work Sir! 🤣
OK, this entire video is epic.
Like, every single point you made I'm just there like "this is exactly what I'm thinking, like, not even changing words, this is exactly what is in my mind".
Focusing on character inclusivity is a death knell, a swing and a miss. Hope Amazon doesn't miss a billion or so.

Man, I envy LOTR. I wish WoT and Witcher had fans who are this passionate. The end of GoT was the early warning sign that fantasy was going to get woke, but WoT and Witcher were the actual beginning. And now here we are. Because the pushback from actual fans was weak and disorganized.
The Witcher and Halo for me as well. The Witcher is a tough one though... If you step back and just look at it as a tv show it's pretty cool to a normie who doesn't know anything about the lore. It doesn't have near the amount of logical inconsistencies or issues that Halo did and it has some solid fantasy elements to it. The only hope is that fans of The Witcher tv show go and read the books or something and see a better story.

The saddest thing of all, however, is that you could tell who truly "got" what their job is about, what Tolkien's work truly means: the white actors, Cynthia Addai Robinson, and the black harfoot (Sara is the actress' first name) had a lot to say about Tolkien's lore and it's message, but the "first female dwarf", the first black elf and the healer only ever talked about the modern politics: representation, diversity and female agency. It's the saddest thing I've ever seen and makes me even sadder, because even if a lot of them are "firsts", it didn't have to be about that.
Yeah, the blacks think their skin color automatically makes them unique and groundbreaking. And they are so entitled and full of themelves that they assume the audience will praise that, as if it was almost something holy. ☺
Give them Hell Disparu!
I am glad you are a fan on the side of Tolkien
So many positive things will come out of this show. Channels like this one for example.
"Playing the first female dwarf." Gimli made it quite clear that female dwarves look nearly identical to male dwarves. So, it seems a bit over the top to DECLARE you are the first.
Woke SJWeirdos love their revisionist herstory. They take the internet "first" to a whole new level.
Gimli's mother looked more like a female dwarf than her. And that was just a sketch
How dare she assume the gender of all those dwarves!?!?!?!
@@hendrikscheepers4144 and how could he??
Dwarfs are so similar that it actually makes sense to ask them their pronouns.
Love the scene where the black dwarf dies prematurely due to lack of vitamin d.
Hahaaaaaa some evolutionary shit. Melanin, Legolas!
Or, in an alternate scene for the bargain bin DVD, Disa saves her people by leaping into the dragon's mouth - but is so big the dragon chokes to death.
The cast are all lovely, theres 2 very special ones among them. I cant wait to watch this and by the look of it, piss myself laughing.
Bit random here, but I heard you mention in the video that youve got tinnitus. Ive had it for over 10 years now, and just wanna say that I hope it aint the hindrence and hell that it can have on people. My noise has decreased brilliantly over the last few years to the point that I dont hear it at the best of times, so I hope that yours isnt the worst. Great comments and channel.
This series has political agenda written all over it. They are not respecting Tolkien's lore at all. They just want to inflate their egos and their pockets. I'll be very curious about the reviews when this series airs.
This company just put out a show where a man shrunk down to the size of an ant, did a bunch of coke, went into a man’s penis, proceeded to sneeze and blow the man to pieces, but here you are thinking they have this major political agenda.
Yes all about money and wokeness
Most "official" reviewers are already paid hacks, or are given rewards/gifts/perqs to get behind the scenes access to movies. They are shills. The reviews will ALL be glowing positive: "Better than PJ's LOTRs!" "Better than Citizen Kane!" "RoP is the best thing since sliced bread!"
If they had any respect for the lore they would have made use of Tolkien’s greatest achievement, his invented languages. Why is no one talking about this. The show runners are dragging all their modern sensibilities into the show by having EVERYONE speak Modern English. Do your research people NO ONE in middle earth spoke English. This is a slap in the face of to all the true Tolkien fans, and another case of the Anglo Saxon establishment pushing it’s agenda on everyone.
I laughed so hard at this quote, "If you go into a role and you are just you, you are a bad actor"
Man I had to literally tune out the interview clips to save my sanity. This is the perfect example of most actors have no clue or care at all for anything but a paycheck.
It's a pretty sick time when people think they should be rewarded/praised for being born a certain way, rather than for accomplishments. And when it is people in the most privileged of jobs expecting this, it is extra gross.
To those that are angry or confused at the hostility being heaped upon this series prior to its release, it is all about DISCERNMENT: something that many of us have exercised and fine-tuned over the past several years. Large numbers of people are using discernment in their evaluation of how this show has been presented, its box-checking level of inclusiveness, the blatant (and frankly bullying) attempt to reinvent Tolkien, and not-least: a general resentment of here-goes-another-big-corporate-take-over (i.e. purchase) of a beloved franchise (see also: Star Wars). Go ahead and add in the cringe-level hubris coming from several of these completely unknown actors, already luxuriating in their imminent stardom before the show has even debuted, and folks will plan to actively NOT-watch this show. Celebrity arrogance generally doesn't sit well with people, especially coming from non-celebrities. Humility in Hollywood has become as rare and precious as quality writing. Sadly but predictably, the entertainment business still hasn't learned the obvious. For many of us, the merest scent of woke-focused material alerts us, like sharks catching a faint trace of distant blood. The blood is already in the water now. The frenzy is gathering. It will be monumentally difficult for us not to tear this show apart.
Exactly. So pathetic with the "Stop hating, we haven't seen the show yet, let's give it a chance".
Discernment makes us able to predict that this show is guaranteed to be woke garbage.
just try to describe them the hate towards the show... youll get insulted and called bigot. its amazing bcuz i bet these idiots are prolly mass mainstream consumers, they love OBI WAN and every new marvel/disney garbage.
@@gulanhem9495 "How can you tell it's bad when it's not out yet?" Because when a guy is squatting over your plate without pants and loudly pushing, you can tell it's going to be shit.
For weeks I have been trying to summarize this: The reason we are so alert is because when you are watching a show you become immersed in it. If something happens that breaks the 4th wall, like bad cgi, it pulls you out back into your own (miserable) reality. In the same way, a flat "powerful" character, with no struggle arc, pulls you out too. Or when you see a dark skinned elf, when you know elves are from another realm and pale skinned. You suddenly get pulled out of the story, because you know that actor is there for commercial reasons. It's not because they played a great elf.
I am so excited about this show.
AY UP DISPARU
These actors/actresses are all kids my age that grew up with friends that constantly said "Yasss queeen! SLAYYY!" every time they did something remotely bare minimum. I can't even joke about it. So many times I've been around people like this who do the most basic "adulting" and gripe about it to just get a roaring applause of slayyyyyy from their friends. It's why they are so confident to say the stupid things that they do. Everything is just "slay gurrrl" and never failing. You can't fail, you just always slay. *YAS QUEEEN*
Wait, weren't there female dwarves featured in Dale and the Lonely Mountain flashbacks?
Yep.
The video I mention does include those in it too. There were a decent number of them in the hobbit.
"Stop mansplaning, you bigot!" 😂
There sure was! But shhhh don't tell them that 😅😅😅😅😅
@@disparutoo 🍻🍻🍻 Thanks, I thought so.
Nice analogy
When Galadrial kills Morgoth and Smaug, she turns to the camera and says "it's ringin' time!" I almost cried.
I have my doubts the show would be good, but I had hopes that the actress who plays Disa would prove us wrong with her portrayal. But so far she seems more of an activist than an actual actress, what little hope I had that her character would surprise us and be good is now gone. 😔
Also, I'll add that this is her FIRST role ever in a proper TV show or movie. So....
It’s awful
She's really milking the opportunity to the max, not realizing she's probably ruining her career
She was selected purely for diversity, not for her acting ability (or appearance for that matter). People go to the movies to escape from the real world especially a FANTASY movie, we don't want to see smarmy and entitled people preach to us.
I have my doubts for most of the cast to be quite honest.. A few have proven their abilities, most have proven they have no ability and the rest are unknown.
Listening to these cast members tell us everything about this show being a dumpster fire 🔥
Yep
I think you nailed the whole thing with this "If you have to make it all up, why do you bother to make it at all",, just write a totally new thing right?
This is so bizarre to watch - it hurts listening to these people. cheers from Germany, love your videos
God I love that question about disability. I just love how self-obsessed people have become in our culture, it’s comical. What’s even more comical is that they a) apparently don’t know the story of the LotR trilogy and b) think someone with a massive disability is necessary to telling an *adventure* story in a fantasy world without modern medicine. If these people were actually fans they’d realize Frodo himself was (technically) disabled following his adventures. He’s haunted by his travels and the trials he endured, he actually has PTSD unlike most people who pretend to have it nowadays.
But I digress, it’s both hilarious and extremely saddening how people cannot enjoy a single piece of entertainment these days without having to shove identity into it or needing to see themselves represented. They’re not interested in story, at least nobody’s story save their own.
Ironically, the way disabled and people of colour are used in the marketing nowadays reminds me of the early colonial era circus posters.
@@wk2337 or minstrel shows tbh. Same draw, only slightly different reason
I'm partially paralyzed, so I have a disability. The absolute LAST THING I want to see onscreen, especially in a fantasy, and MOST especially in Tolkein, is "representation" that reminds me of my disability.
It's a complete break from immersion and trying to get away from the stress of life with a disability. Most of us aren't "able" enough to be actors, but struggle just to stay healthy.
My favorite part is where Sauron tells Isildur "remember when I said I'd kill you last?.......I lied" and drops him in mount doom.
I have loved Lord of the Rings ever since my father took me to see the Fellowship of the Ring in theaters when I was just a wee little lad. Tolkien has greatly impacted me and inspired me throughout my life. I have an extremely intricate and high fidelity tattoo of Sauron's helm (based on the model used in the films) on my forearm done by one of the finest artists in my city. I also have the The Witch-King of Angmar's helm tattooed further up across my left bicep/ tricep.
They are aesthetically brilliant but it's what they represent metaphorically as symbols for the corruption of man that is the reason I chose to permanently embed them onto my body. I have received many compliments and initiated many great conversations, friendships and even relationships because of them. I have always been proud of having those tattoos and never felt any regret or shame over them whatsoever. After seeing Disparu's and many other youtubers coverage of the upcoming Rings of Power, however, it is with equal parts sadness and horror at this nightmare inducing zombified fan fiction resurrected corpse of a production, that I must announce the removal of my tattoos.
I'm scheduled for my elective arm amputation in two weeks time. Sure, I could have had them removed via laser but that would not be nearly sufficient enough of a gesture to convey how deeply dishonorable it would be to have the audacity to still be wearing these tattoos *after* this..."Lord of the Rings iNsPiReD" series has aired. It was either that, or commit ritual Seppuku (Hara-Kari), but I don't have an assistant on hand willing to decapitate me after I've plunged the tantō blade into my belly and severed my abdominal aorta. Such is life. At least by going ahead with the elective amputation procedure I won't have to live with the everlasting shame and dishonor of displaying those beautiful, ethereal tattoos representing a bygone era of literature and cinema that was then bastardized by the soulless Amazonian overlords. I'd rather be a one armed man with dignity than a two armed dishonorable sellout, endlessly cucked by a trillion dollar corporation.
"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King."
It has recently come to my attention, that many people believe the Meteor Man to be none other than "young" Gandalf. After expressing my bloodboiling reaction to that information in the form of screaming noises, I realised: "Wait, I actually WANT it to be Gandalf..." Heck yes! Let it be Gandalf, please! Let them crap all over the lore. Let them have hot Sauron, a black elf who's a slave to orcs, feminism, self-centered dwarf princesses, victimized and oppressed female orcs, fanfiction characters with disabilities and all that bull crap of the modern world! Let it all be. Why? Because no matter how much we protest, nothing will show this clown show's true face better than it itself. So please Amazon, give us all you've got, the whole package of diversity, representation, inclusivity.
Don't forget the orc children who are cruelly butchered by the elves....
Sauron was actually really attractive though, in his Annatar form he was said to be very beautiful.
@@valizawesome796 There is a fine difference between being beautiful (or "fair" as is Tolkien's preferred word) and being "hot/attractive". Something tells me Amazon doesn't understand that difference and we'll get a 'bangable' Sauron.
@@viggopaulman There are worst things they can do with sauron, like getting him into a relationship with Ar Pharazon or smth, so a attractive sauron isnt that bad.
@@valizawesome796 lmaooo while I don’t want the show to do anything with ar pharazon banging sauron, I must admit that I have been obsessed with this idea of sauron going from prisoner to lover for some time
"Connected" to Tolkien's work? Honey, you're connected to Amazon's work. There's nothing Tolkienian about this garbage.
Oh my god the arrogance of these cast members is astonishing! They’re loving smelling their own farts aren’t they?!
2:44 seemed like the beginning of a song lol
Remember the good times when actors... ACTED without forcing personal views into their work...
Oh my how did Sir Ian McKellen do it?! Professional acting AND speaking against homophobia? How was he able to do that without having a lenghty discussion about rainbows with the Fellowship?! :D
I think it's because he knew that wasn't going to be a part of the character of Gandalf, so why should he talk about it and explore it in the movies if it's not going to be part of the character? He knew how to separate his own personal views from the character he's playing. You know, like an ACTOR should!?
The agenda of the writers and cast is clearly to convey a political message instead of creating an amazing story out of love for Tolkien's works.
1:42 and 1:47 . Damn hits worthy of Mike Tyson 😅😅😅. I might not be able to watch the rest of this video if it's gonna continue to be this savage!!
Guys, guys, this show really is a first in history. It's the first show to ever convince me never to watch it or subscribe to its streaming service before it was even released.
*”…to see themselves staring back at them"*
Because in these folks’ small minds obviously no one can relate to a character that doesn’t look exactly like them, or a fantasy world that doesn’t look exactly like the real world.
Because whatever else fantasy is supposed to be, it’s definitely _not_ supposed to be an escape from the real world.
we live in world where people with mental issues (like the writers and the cast of this atrocity of a show) dedicate their time to lecture everyone and are celebrated for it.
It would be comical if it wasn't for the fact that these kind of people are in charge everywhere you look. It's a tragedy at this point, a dystopia basically speaking.
As someone with mental issues I'm proud to say that I write better stories than the shite they put out. Fools of a Took. They need to throw themselves into Mount Doom and rid us all of this stupidity
i couldn't imagine living in a country where i was disarmed with these animals in charge, bad shit is coming with these people that's a fact

The tragedy here is that representation has taken priority over faithfully bringing Tolkien's works to the screen. If minority representation was the aim, a noble enough goal, they should have left Tolkien well alone and created something completely new and original. As you pointed out in one of your previous videos, there is something Orwellian about co-opting someone else's work to promote a set of messages and agendas that are manifestly absent in the source material. I personally have no desire to see a Middle Earth that 'reflects the world as it is.'
If it does, it ain't Middle Earth.
It isn't a noble goal
@@mr.smitherine1913 It could be, but minority representation has been reduced to glorified tokenism and inclusion through exclusion.
Yes! This. I'm not expecting it to blow me away like the early 2000's trilogy. I have no problem with getting more female representation and diversity (black hobbits are a personal fave headcanon, & my OC for Lord of the rings is a orphan Harad girl). Also fine with adding some new scenes or trying to change it up - that happens in adaptations (I didn't discover LOTR until 2008 & remember reading later about how mad people were at Tom Bombadil's absence). While I'm still sad about beardless female dwarfs (you can do it in 'The Greatest Showman' - you can do it here), I've accepted & moved past it.
My main worry and growing fear is as you said: representation taking priority over the story. It's something similar to my disappointments regarding live-action versions of anime and a lot of modern media (whether superhero tv shows or book adaptation films). Diversity & representation are awesome, but they should be used to strengthen and add to the story & characters & relationships. Not take over as royal priority & weaken the quality of those things by making them be the support pillars instead of the palace. It's something that's been happening a lot lately where diversity/representation has sort of become a laser-focus mandatory checklist rather than an earnest expression of 'yes people/characters are diverse because that's simply how it is.'
I'll probably still really like the show, because that is how I am. Even if I don't like the genre or am not enthused about it at first - I will totally end up immersed in it. If I hate what the characters do, it's because I'm invested in the story & the characters. So I'll like it as a fantasy show, and get into it. But the more info we get, the less I feel I'll be able to see it as 'This is Middle-Earth. This is Tolkien's world.' Then again, I could be completely wrong & when it comes out I'll be blown away by how awesomely Middle-Earth it actually is compared to my concerns. I hope that will be what happens, but that hope isn't a very high bar at this point.
"...created something completely new and original." And you have now found their kryptonite.
