I have a forerunner 935 and it's perfect. Last like 2 weeks on a single charge, doesn't break, tracks everything. Controlled with button and shows me notifications. It's like amodern pebble and I love it. It's a piece of tech that I don't have to worry about, it's just there I love it

Fitness os tje only real use case I have for a wearable. Using a smartwatch was really subpar largely due to the battery life just two little use for having another thing that I need to charge. As soon as I switch to a Garmin the several days long battery life became an absolute must have. I don't think I'll consider a smart watch until they can at least last 5 days.

    • @benjabin6729

@@Pontif11I also think some smart watches having touch screen as your only way of input is annoying, it's such a small screen and it can get so fiddly. Give me physical buttons all day long, I don't need to look because I can feel for the right thing to press. It's why I hate new cars infotainment systems. I just want buttons when I'm busy

@@benjabin6729 coincidentally i just finished a workout using the venu 2 😅 Its one of the garmins that leans into touch controls rather than buttons but i can't say it has been an issue for my use cases. Lifting leather lined gloves do the job without issue and i even got to try it in ligjt rain some weeks back and that wasn't too bad either. Granted some stuff is still controlled with the buttons so i do see your point, physical is definitely not something i necessarily want to see going away completely, the car example being a big one.

As someone who uses the Garmin Instinct 2 (Non solar), my watch has lasted me almost a full month on a single charge, and thats with always on display, consistent weather updates, per second heart rate monitoring and numerous notifications per day. May lack the colour screen of most smartwatches and other features like Apple watches or Google based watches, but I find it meets my needs very well. Wasnt even that expensive either.

This is so strange that Marques doesn't participate in this conversation, as it's about Garmin. He makes some moves to press the button on the audio device to show that "hey! I'm doing something to show I'm in the game and interested," but he clearly is not! He wants to move on; he has no comment on Garmin. On his OnePlus watch, he also didn't mention Garmin at all while comparing the battery life of the watches. I wish I knew why he has conflicts with Garmin watches.

I always wonder what the margin on such watches is. Like a $800 Applewatch or Gamin watch can't really cost more to make than a cheap $200 smartwatch. It's no big deal to just slap better materials and a bigger battery on it. The rest is basically the same to the cheap watches.

  • @PineappleDouche

First part of the video is a tad bit inaccurate. Garmin has offered expensive watches but they also offer less expensive models. I don't see the value in the $700+ models but I'm sure athletes appreciate that data. $250 - $400 models work just fine. Several of the features in the new Forerunner model are included in the Venu and Viva models. You're paying more so you can text and take calls.

The music thing is important. It means they need to be able to do their fuctions without a cellphone attached, it requires more usable on-board storage.
IMO, this is one of the most important features on a smart watch. Being able to go for a run, or workout and listen to music while leaving the phone at home. This was THE reason I had a smartwatch. Most smartwatches at the time when I bought it couldn't play music.
ended up going back to an analogue watch - because Bluetooth music dropped the battery life from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 days. And I am not charging a watch every 2-3 days. And if I'm not using music, what's the point in a smart watch? Heart rate and steps was kinda cool, but didn't really change anything

The look and feel of a casual watch plus the long duration battery are the reasons I won`t change it for another smart watch soon.

Word is the vibration motor is weak. If your phone is not right next to you, and on vibrate, you got to rely on to watch receiving notification that you can feel and not miss. It's a no-go.
