This was really helpful because I once grabbed my bird and he wanted NOTHING to do with me and I didn't know what was wrong. Now I know :) My family and I cover the cage at night so our three budgies can go to bed easier because they can't see anything happening outside of the cage. In the morning, it also helps because their not that chirpy when they don't see light and they won't wake up the whole house. 😂
Once I wake up I uncover the cage as soon as I can to say hi to them. Of course, I'm greeted by Peeper at the bottom of the cage doing who knows what, Tucker pecking at a mirror and....Boo sitting in the food again...

Birds are sensitive little creatures and how anyone could do any of the thongs you mention, especially hitting? OMG, how could any hit an innocent angel? There is no such thing as "bad". Don't give up it could take months, weeks or years. Is the bird worth it, that's the question. You could also try to get another cage and separate them, and try to bond with them one on one. If they are always together they may see u as a nuisance, which is natural cause birds are very social with their own kind.

I have a Green Lorikeet whom my mother rescued from being eaten by bigger birds. He was stuck in a puddle with Crows swarming to him. My mother picked him up and gave him to me and he's my new favorite bird. I've been taming birds and caring for them at an extremely young age, but some of the distrust rules I've broken but he still loves me. I grab him alot and because of that he doesn't trust me enough for pats, but he still eats from my hand and loves eating from my hand. I have 4 budgies, but I got them when I was not ready to take care of them. (My uncle bought them for me and my sister all of a sudden one day and then decided we would be able to figure out how to take care of them one day, so this vid really helped me realize a few things a bit)
For my 4 birdies, they are like couples since there are 2 girls and two boys, both pairs being brought to our home as Boy-Girl dynamic. Sometimes, the couples get in each other’s way, like when one person from the couple birds wants to eat from the hand, another will peck at the other’s feet and head. Me and my sister scold them sometimes by saying, “That’s not nice†or “This is your last warning†and I think I really did loose their trust. After this video, I am fully sure I can’t take care of my budgies properly, but I still love them....what can I do? I’m not a good budgie mother....

honestly, I think I lost my birds trust, if they even had any in the first place, I remember trying to find gloves, but we didn't have any and my mom wouldn't let me use any towels either and my birds have been outside for 2 hours and I had to go soon and there was also no one to watch over them, so I had to force interaction and grab them.... My mom laughed at the thought that they would even have trust saying their just birds, but I felt so guilty and I'm scared they lost any of the little trust they had in me...
Also I don't know if it occurs for all birds or only budgies(I own Pigeons)

I have a dusky conure and taking him to the vet for his biannual nail and wing trim is a challenge to say the least. He gets in moods where he doesn't want to step up (especially when he sees the carrier) and I won't go into his cage to get him because they need to be able to feel safe in the cage if you don't want them to get aggressive. So I have to shut the door and physically pick him up, which of course he hates and I often get a bite. It usually takes him a few days to get over his grudge from that, he also pouts around for a full day after getting his nails cut it's pretty humorous to see wings don't bother him but the nails do. There's nothing else I can do he has to go to the vet for his own good and I feel that it's better to have someone else do the stressful work of trimming his nails and feathers so he doesn't associate that with me. I have his wings clipped because the one time I let them grow he was flying all over my small house antagonizing the dog and a few times got caught behind furniture which took me an hour to find him the first time. I also like to take him outside and it goes without saying that it's not a good idea for them to be able to fly when outside.

Do covering their cages help them calm down also? One night as I was having dinner, my tiels got startled for no reason ( or reasons that I don't know of yet) they started flapping their wings violently and to the point where one of her tail feathers ( which was still growing and has blood in it) just flew out. I've never seen them being this scared, and it wasn't the normal flapping like when they were stretching and exercising either. I covered their cage up and closes the bird room door ( thinking the tv was just too loud). But I heard hissing from both of them when I was covering the cage up. Does this stress them out somehow? Till this day I still don't know why they were that startled.
