I met Robbie at a car dealership sponsor the weekend before the jump, he was signing autographs. It was just me, him, and my BIL and we chatted for 10-15 minutes and he was just another regular guy like us. He signed a photograph for my wife and I can remember it to this day, To Sandie Lucky Landings, it's somewhere in the basement. I worked the day of the jump and slide in to the front row at the landing ramp about an hour before dusk. I knew he'd make the jump but it was sketchy in many ways that can't be seen on this video. I saw it again months later on a NYE PPV and videotaped it, still have the tape also. I hope he's found his peace.
A family born into bravery. There's a lot of American fathers that send their sons off to war. Some come back and some do not. But Robbie went off into battle on his own terms. Ride in Peace Robbie.
Robbie did have better technology on his bike lighter weight, more shock absorption and padding in his suit, a better helmet and he wore gloves. Good jump.
I always go to Vegas every year, and visiting Caesars Palace is always one of my first stops, I always se the parking lot where Robbie started his run from and know just about where the takeoff ramp was located, but now with those newer building added on the other side where he landed, I cannot see anymore that parking garage entrance where he rode into when he landed on the other side......but just seeing actually how far the distance actually was to completly clear the fountains was quite astounding.........
I had a Honda xl 500 and would routinely jump that far on terraced cow pastures, sometimes going in excess of 100 mph. It is a lot easier than it looks.
I'm so glad that his dad was there and shared in his victory as this was the first time it had ever been done successfully, it was Evel's vision but his son Robbie was the one who pulled it off. It has also been attempted by two others, Gary Wells nearly died when he just missed the landing ramp and Travis Pastrana did it in grand style as a tribute to Evel Knievel.
Glad to see Robbie make the jump at Caesars which his father Evel failed to do. But Evel was the First daredevil who had True Grit and lead the way for Robbie.
I was working in California in Monterey Bay area and I used to run into Robbie about once a week and a Restaurant Bar that we would go to after work over a couple of months period. He had his Motorhome parked in the area. He was always a nice humble guy. Interesting conversations with him
@@66kevsmith Robbie Knievel still wants to try Snake River Canyon. But Sadly a Hollywood stunt man beat him to it, and actually succeeded. Robbie's brother even helped the guy out.
There was virtually no room for the take off or landing. What a tight area to try and jump in. Crazy how both himself and his father have gone home to be with Father and our Lord. I know they couldn’t be happier ❤️🙏
At the time this was just unbelieveable. He had to land perfectly, then hit the brakes to avoid the concrete pillar in the underground. I remember clearly thinking this was the most unreal thing I'd ever witnessed. Fast forward to today and guys are routinely doing jumps with double back flips, front flips and soaring through the air for hundreds of feet while doing acrobatics with their bikes. To them this jump is total childs play. Amazing progression for sure.
Evil would have made it if he had a plush rear suspension and travel like on that Honda. It absorbed the impact of the rear wheel hitting and didn't rebound his butt off the bike like the Triumph did to Evil.
If the superbly made and dead stone reliable Japanese bikes we have today were available to Evel back then instead of the shitty Harleys & Triumphs he used then (and are equally shitty and unreliable now), he most likely would've crashed 150% LESS!
God gives wisdom to those that ask for it...Bobby is wise because he trusts in God and Jesus Christ. Bobby, continue to stay strong in the Lord God till your last breathe and into eternity. Great Job!!
Pat Backus - that’s why he didn’t do it. I perfectly understand that. I once believed that it was a jump hyped up to be something it wasn’t. However, I came to think differently when I asked myself if I would have tried it using the best equipment out there. My answer was hell no. Would you try it? I didn’t see a line of people who were jumping it next. Remember that this was like 30 years ago.
Been reading posts and everyone is correct if he was on his dads old bike he’d have wrecked no doubt about it! The way he hit the old bike would have kicked the backend up ! He would have been worse off then Dad ! Evil actually made it further but the bike he had couldn’t take the shock of landing like Robbies did ! But still big go nads for doing it !
I taped this onto vhs tape the night he jumped it and it was televised. I haven't watched it in years, but I don't recall the jump looking so blurry/jerky/pixelated.
There had to be some kind of dispute between Robbie Knievel and someone because his name and this jump wasn't mentioned at all during the broadcast of the Travis Pastrana jump.
Its funny because I was always googling Robbie here and there to see what he was doing. I didn't even know he was sick. He was the son of the greatest daredevil that ever lived. Robbie was a better rider than Evel and was the best jumper ever in my opinion. He like his father had balls of steel and the heart of a lion. Robbie faced death with dignity and with a fearless heart. He is reunited with Evel once again. Rest in peace Robbie and tell your dad we all miss him. I know if there is an afterlife you two are roaring down the road together.
Roberts right. Robbie never could have done it on a Harley. But I think evil had he done it with the bike Robert used could have jumped nearly twice as far.
Rest in peace to a damn legend, give your dad our love.
You have Sky Rocketed to Heaven Robbie! Rest In Peace Bro!
I remeber watching this as a young kid! just as mesmerized as my father was in the 70's

I love how the video goes to shit right when it matters!
shite happens
God bless you Robbie!!! RIP Brother!
This guy is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet on top of being the best motorcyclist in the world. GOD Bless you Robbie... Hell on wheels!!
Nice, I just watched Robbie's doc today again. You are the GOAT Robbie & God bless you!🙏
Captain Robbie kanevel so cool and fearless
Robbie did have better technology on his bike lighter weight, more shock absorption and padding in his suit, a better helmet and he wore gloves. Good jump.

Not really. There's jumps on the AMA national circuit as big or bigger than this that 40 or more riders do lap after lap.
I had a Honda xl 500 and would routinely jump that far on terraced cow pastures, sometimes going in excess of 100 mph. It is a lot easier than it looks.
Its easy to kill yourself doing it too. I seen a video last yr of a kid that landed wrong, this is concrete too .
RIP. Amazing human being.
Note to Robbie & Wife...
Ya'll make beautiful babies, Stay Safe & God Bless YOU ALL!

It's nice that he was able to pull that off for the old man..brilliant.
Glad to see Robbie make the jump at Caesars which his father Evel failed to do. But Evel was the First daredevil who had True Grit and lead the way for Robbie.
He would have to used his father same bike before i can compared them
then later at his funeral we could have said. good try??
True it still takes a lot of guts to make these jumps but the new bikes make it much easier and safer to do them.
Rest in Peace Robbie.
Cancer blows
Remember the other guy who tried it and hit the wall..nearly killed him..EVel hit the wall also after his crash, That's a scary scary jump!
R.i.p. to the legend and your your dad was to. Thanks for all the stunts.
Balls o yes he does miss you always like seeing you on fox all those amazing jumps
RIP Robby. You lived your life by your own rules. Happy trails.
I wonder if Robbie got starstruck when he realized Super Dave Osborne was there.
Star struck from one of your long time friends? You wouldn't jump a curb.
I drank a beer and took a pic with robbie tonight. Still a humble cool dude. Funny as shit too.
Jarrod Thompson thought he quit years ago when he started having health problems from the booze. Hope he goes easy
Where? Clearwater?

I WAS THERE, incredible ...
The goat
Wish he (or his brother) could get the funding to avenge his father's Snake River Canyon jump.
why would he do that hes jumped the grand canyon succesfully which was his dads dream
Phil Anderson Robbie did, on a motorcycle, and made it !!!
he did the jump landed then came off so technicaly he made the jump

You see Robbie making sure to land on the rear tire. I saw Robbie jump before. The guy knows what he is doing.
RIP Robbie, you're in many hearts.
it's a game of do or die.. not many are brave to live like that.

Not even close to bringing the same
You’re exactly right
This is not childs play even by today's standards
Evil would have made it if he had a plush rear suspension and travel like on that Honda. It absorbed the impact of the rear wheel hitting and didn't rebound his butt off the bike like the Triumph did to Evil.
Dad used to tell me they don't make cars like they used too. I'd reply that's because they were shit and now we've moved on.
Evel Knievel
heartfanjim01 But he didnt did he...Wit wid a jambo know??
That's what his dad said
" with the suspension on these new bikes, you don't even
need a landing ramp"
If they had this bike back then, Evel absolutely would use it too.
This gave me goose bumps
I use to pretend I was his pops, as a kid
very cool
thanks for watching and commenting man. my main channel has more Robbie knievel, czcams.com/users/MrJonswift200

It's just a shit digitalisation, is all. Of course it wasn't pixelated on the original tape lol
@@gsp49 really? huh

I don’t see that Harley is the sponsor. That bike looks like a Kawasaki or Honda.
Love Robbie Knievel remember watching this years ago there's no way a Harley could have made it
A Harley could have made it, I could do it on a goldwing.
I'm not sure but his dad used harlys and triumph he made the jump just the landing tossed him over the Handel bars
MORE VOLUME PLEASE!!!
must have been the throgo rod adjustment
There had to be some kind of dispute between Robbie Knievel and someone because his name and this jump wasn't mentioned at all during the broadcast of the Travis Pastrana jump.
the knievel family was invitied to the show , it was mentioned, just not the jump.
sonic sound but Robbie wasn't there his brother was.
remember me
Course mike metzger did this but threw in a backflip.
Evel made the jump, the landing just gave him some issues.
It's sad Robbie didn't use a Harley or a Triumph.
Seriously? It's totally illogical, and simply a suicide mission on a modern day Harley, or a Triumph 😩
ya because he wanted to be sucessfull
Try Doing that on a HARLEY
I thought it was high quality!!!
high qualty was not avalible just 480p
Evel/Robert must have been a nervous wreck watching Robbie do this?
Evil still holds my respect as he tired the tough direction. Everyone now does it from the side. Still cool to see but wont hold a flame to Daddy.
Too bad you didn't show it in real time instead of doing it in stop gap
vid sticks at jump

His father was jumping with a 750 Harley that was heavy & not best suited for this. Robbie was better but Evil had the balls.
Why do people think that slowing down the film speed during the jump adds something to it? It doesn't.
