Impressed how this year and last the AO people quickly put up video highlights of matches and keep the highlights longer than the 3-4 minutes we’re used to with ATP. Thank You and keep up the great work.
they are finding out the hard way; when they start losing sponsorship. Any local youtube account can upload better highlights.
it is great indeed! hopefully a common practice for all events
I wish the thumb nail would not give up the winner.
Draper is incredibly talented but really needs to work on his fitness. Rafa at 36.5 years old looked like he could keep playing for another 5 hours 😅
While i do agree, as the gentleman before me basically said in spanish, there’s only one Rafa, he has a type of willpower to bite down and fight for every single point unlike any other. Plus he’s probably one of the the most fit 36.5 year olds in the world.
It called experience...Nadal know how to deal with the match
Draper doesn't need to work on his fitness, he's fit AF. he just keeps having issues with cramps and cramps are different for everyone..
36 years old and the #1 seed at the Aussie Open, amazing
Yeah, well djokovic should be the 1 seed
@@gordo1191 no he shouldn't
@@ndunks he would be 1 if he got the wimbledon points he deserved
@@talentroller4413 no es correcto, en ese caso con más razón sería Rafa
@@talentroller4413 so if Wimbledon had points, than Medvedev could have played and won the Wimbledon. There's no IF in sport, buddy.
Nadal is a literal machine. When he plays his worst, he still finds a way. Hopefully, he can find his highest level again. As for Draper, wow, what a warrior....battling it out with cramps and physical issues on Rod Laver Arena against the best. Wish the best for Draper, he'll be a top 10 player very soon.
Nadal played a good match.
He will meet his real challenge when he meets FAA or Fritz.
I don’t think he will win Australian open
Draper literally couldn’t move lol he didn’t have to find a way.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 No he did not. Too many unforced errors. This was far from his best
Draper idolized Nadal growing up...wearing the tank tops, bandanas etc.. Turns out he still has some work to do to overcome his idol.. I'm sure it was an amazing experience for Draper and to experience and witness Nadal's grit..
For Nadal, this match was the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
First, it's clear that Nadal is clearly off-form.
This shouldn't be surprising as he's coming off an injury plagued season and isn't match tested physically or tactically. The Good: what I liked most was that Nadal was able to, for a decent portion of the match, keep the ball deep with spin and pace so that Draper was forced back from the baseline. When Nadal does this, it's always the foundation for good things to come. The Bad: the slew of unforced errors and his second serve was simply amiss as he won well less than 45% of his second serves in the last 3 sets. The Ugly: the number of shots that were not just missed but missed badly and the inability to finish off key points after having set up the point well from a tactical perspective.
I'd give this match a C+ considering that he played a tough and talented opponent in Draper and he gutted out a solid, if ugly, win. There were enough flashes of Nadal's genius coupled with the still great instincts and anticipation so that it's possible to project that he can hit the next level. The two major concerns are his consistency of play and that he seems to have lost a step to the corners. This could all resolve itself with more match play but it's still something to keep an eye on and something he'll need to resolve if he's to have a chance.
Overall, the AO is setting up brilliantly for Djokovic with Nadal off-form and Kyrgios and Alcaraz out. He has to be considered the clear favorite although stranger things have happened on the way to the forum.
It's so exciting to see Nadal (or any other player for that matter) hitting a first serve ace at 40-love. It truly takes a tennis lover and expert to pick that rally over, say, a 20-shot rally ending with a half-volley on set point.
It isn't supposed to be easy to win the same grand slam back to back. He has a target on his back as last year's champion, and he must work vigorously to win it again this year.
Great win for Rafa even though he’s still not in full form. He dug himself a big hole in the second set and didn’t finish Draper as quickly in the third set. These are the types of matches that Rafa needs to get into playing shape. No easy matches in Grand Slams. Rafa isn’t chasing down all shots anymore. Conserve energy and go for quicker points. He served well but too many unforced errors. If/when he gets passed Rounds 2 & 3, we could see a match up in Round 4 against Tiafo who defeated him in Round 4 at USO.
He’s got lucky tbh. Draper had control until he started cramping then he just wasn’t the same. It’s a shame
@@ethanhatfield6075 Yes, Rafa was lucky today with Draper’s cramping. Rafa got the important long match under his belt. Let’s see what he does with it against McDonald who’s only No. 62 in the rankings. If Rafa doesn’t improve substantially with every match he could be toast.
@@RamZar50 I think McDonald should be an easier opponent for him
@RamZar Nadal should defeat McDonald in Straight Sets or in less than 3 hours.
he usually gets better deeper in the tournament, even last year he didnt play perfect in the first few rounds but then won the AO
Nadal is an absolute warrior
Keep rolling 🇯🇵 ultimate warrior keep rolling!!! Vamos warrior & Cheers to the rising sun!!! 🐐🇯🇵🥷🎾
Grade: A+ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think Nadal played great given the circumstance. This is a tricky 1st round but he was dictating most of the points and controlling the inside of the court. Vamos
Watched the Video on Draper on the ATP tour channel where he is pointing out problems with his abs over the course of his career. And here he points to his abs at the net. I hope he can get this injury issue under control in the near future.
Let's hope the French Open and Wimbledon channels take notes on how to put highlights together.
Great win 🇪🇸 GOATdal (Nadal) Great win!!! Great Job & Vamos Rafa!!! Cheers!!! 🇪🇸🏆🐐🎾
Where is Nadal Now?????????? GO Homme coocking soupe😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. MC KENZIE smash em like puppet. NOVAK is the KING this game🤫💪💪💪💪💪
Karma . Get wrecked lmao
Do you look MASTER OF GAME 👍😀😀😀😀😀 Shut up, and go with your doping nadal on garbage 🤧🤒🤕🤫😀😀😀😀
Rafa se energiza con cada victoria, si llega a cuartos sers muy peligroso para cualquiera.
Did Nadal have any signs of a hip problem before this match or maybe started some time between this match and the second round match vs McDonald? He looked great tome in this match.
6 1 at the end. damn nadal just gets better as it goes on.
Great opening round for him.
From 1-1 in the final set to 5-1? C'mon AO, decent job on turnaround but could have added just a few more clips before jumping to game point. Anyways, well done Rafa! Hope to see you improve as the tourni progresses..
If you had seen the match, you would know that he suffered an injury in the fourth set, for that reason there is nothing interesting in that set, he only ended due to commitment and not wanting to give up, now all you have to do is talk about something you don't know the context of, Don't be a fake tennis fan, watch another sport
@@Mustang911 I watched it up to the beginning of the 4th set. I read some articles that talked about the match but nothing about 'ended due to commitment'. You come off as a real douchebag. Anyone ever tell you that?
Rafa is the best athlete in the world. Thanks for showing highlights, I only saw up to 3rd set on ESPN, then it stopped. Vamos Rafa✨️🎉🔥🍾💖🎾🇪🇸💌
The first and only win for nadal in 2023😢
What's going on with the 4th set highlight? 1-1 straight to match ball!!
Man this is Draper at C+ at best
@4:14 lmao Draper giving up.
congrats Rafa well done
Amazing nadal
Good effort by Draper. Nadal will fight hard till the end though.
Showing the winner on the thumbnail. Sigh. Some of us can only access CZcams highlights. Would be nice if there were no spoilers video producers.
For me the highlight was when Nadal lost his racquet

Amazing Rafa 🐐
Where is rafa now???? Second round go homme and coocking soupe🤫😂😂😂😂. Novak is the only the One💪👋
6:20 is insane 🍌
FEDAL 💎 Forever!!! 🎾🎾🎾
Draper has a history of bizarre injuries and retirements. He is a young strong man for crying out loud and Nadal is old for a pro ( Sampras had retired five years earlier age wise). Draper needs much better fitness to compete at this level. Nadal was playing very badly and Draper had a chance until his cramping. He needs a new team.
Rafa yes the best.
La 2da vuelta será eliminado.
No, tu ídolo Serbio lo será.
