    Here in southern California on the coast the Monarchs love our Aesclepias Milkweed and they have started to spread from their own seed too! We have 3 caterpillars on the tiniest one and have seen others. I'm afraid that the birds and lizards go for them though so I need to do something to protect the little young butterflies. I always grow mine the the sunniest, driest of spots, but I water everything at least every other day, unless it rains. I hope that you don’t give up on thyme! Love your style. Yes there are those times when the spirit is willing and the fresh is weak. I usually ignore the flesh when that happens and pays the price later on but it’s so rewarding to get stuff done. I support the Monarch caterpillars and I have Milkweed in my Lambs Ear row garden. I’ve enjoyed this video.

    • @gulfcoastbutterflygardening
      @gulfcoastbutterflygardening  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you, RB!!! I wish that I could tell you the name of the salvia, but I don’t know it. I’ve had the parent plant for seven years. It was in the yard at my old house and I dig it up and brought it with me. I’ve rooted cuttings from it for a couple of years and it grows really tall, then flops over and grows along the ground. The bright colored grass
      is Evercolor® Everillo Carex
      Carex oshimensis 'Everillo'. I got it at Lowe’s and had it in a pot with other stuff. It got scraggly so I took it out, trimmed it down, cut it in half, and planted it where it is now. I bet I will need to divid it every year, but dontcha just love being able to get new plants like that?!? - I’m trying to put more chartreuse in the garden because I love those pops of green! It’s like having extra sunlight shining in there! - You are just like me! I just tell that flesh to hush and I keep going. LOL! - Aren’t monarchs such a delight to have in the garden?!? And they require so little effort! I want everyone to experience the joy and miracle of them!!!

      I had the same Salvia question. I thought it might be the "Big Blue" variety I grew from seed last year, but since she's had it for several years, it couldn't be that. I'm guessing it's one of the older, vegetatively propagated Salvia farinacea hybrids like "Indigo Spires" or "Mystic Spires". "Big Blue" is very easy to grow from seed, blooms the first year, and looks pretty much like the Salvia in the video.

    • @gulfcoastbutterflygardening

      @@ddgardner5671 I’m really frustrated to not know the exact name of that salvia! I do know that it is super easy to root from cuttings! - I did start some salvia from seed last year that I bought from Botanical Interests.The short blue ones in the circle garden came up from that seed and it’s called Blue Victory.

      @@gulfcoastbutterflygardening This is a description of Indigo Spires from the Mississippi State U. site:
      _One of my favorite horticultural Web sites says, “Indigo Spires tends to keep growing and growing and then falling over under its own weight. Constant pruning and pinching will keep it in bounds, and removing the flower spikes after most of the flowers have dropped off will encourage more blooming.”_
