    Same here in Kentucky. Yesterday ( Monday ), it was a real feel of 93! This is after being in the 60's and 70's. Today 80's with bad storms then back to cool weather by weekend. This is really stressful to plants and animals. Hope everyone is prepared for the Pole Shift!
    Everything in your Garden is extraordinarily beautiful! I decided I wanted a lush Garden like yours so started winter sowing, and, starting in flats flower seeds to fill in quickly.
    This is my list of flowers: 1) Cherry Bronze Snapdragons 2) Purple Floral Showers Snapdragon 3) Day and Night Snaps 4) Apple Blossom Snaps 5) Supercascade Burgundy Petunias 6) Double Cascade Pink Petunia 7)Duchess Apricot Aster 8) Geum Lady Strathedon 9) Pastel Shades Yarrow 10) Verbascum Southern Charm 11) Delphiniums Magic Fountains Sky Blue 12) Dalmation Peach Foxglove 13) Nepeta Blue Carpet 14) Salvia Pretensis 15) Salvia Pink Sundae 16) Floret Dahlia Bee's Choice 17) Munstead Lavender 18) Armeria White and I am sure there are more that I have forgotten. Ordered 3 David Austin Roses, The Pilgrim, Princess Margereta and Windmere to add to my KORDES Laguna, Polka, Golden Opportunity and Rosarium Utersen climber.
    I had great success with winter sowing and will do it again next year. ( Yes! Too many seedlings! ) It may not be a Butterfly garden but it does attract bees, birds, butterflies and the occasional Hummingbird Moth; What could be better?
    Love the Silver Mist Helichrysum!

    Hey Rachel!😊 I tell ya, the perk of having things in pots is that you can move them around to have the design & placement of your desires. So many beautiful colors & textures you have! I like the uniqueness of your garden. (By the way, I really like the paint color of your house.)
    A couple of gardening friends & I went to the local Dogwood Festival yesterday. There was a vendor there selling the coolest, largest monkey cup/pitcher plant hanging baskets I had ever seen for sale. I had to have one & paid $40 for it but I felt it was worth it because it was so large & had several plants in it. That was definitely what you would call “an unexpected purchase.” lol I’ve got it hanging outside near a palm tree. He’s gonna be happy there until about Nov & indoors he’ll have to come until springtime again.
    Other than that I went to Lowe’s for a few things & went by the clearance rack & they had flats of Proven Winner purple petunias & some purple verbena. I grabbed some of those. (unexpectedly) lol
    We had two days of gusty 35 mph winds this past week which deterred me from wanting to work in the yard but I did manage to get a couple of my wooden benches waterproofed (Thompsons Water Seal.) They dried in no time.
    Always such a joy to see you❤ Hugs from your GA friend

      Oh, yay, Linda!!! I didn’t know what a monkey cup looked like and I just looked it up and WOW! They look so neat!!! I bet it will catch ALL the flies in the neighborhood! - Oh, I love dogwoods and I don’t think we have them down here. I saw so many in bloom when I went to Birmingham a few weeks age. We tried to grow one in our front yard a few years ago and a deer came and rubbed all of the bark off of it with his antlers and killed it. My husband was livid. LOL! - I love that you found some PW bargains!!! I bet your garden is a purple paradise now!

    Beautiful visit today! Critters, lizards, bird song, butterflies, and FLOWERS! I love the leaves, also, even if I don't capitalize them! I'm thinking the silver, grey, mossy green, chartreuse, slender, fat, sparse, thick, pink, hot pink, purple, blue, yellow, white, cream, and ceramic blues are making a vision better than Monet! Of course I saved the best to last - your contagious smile. I sure enjoyed my walk today, thank you.

    Good morning, Rachel. The grey one, Artemesia Powis castle, you did not know how big it gets and whether it can be propagated: Yes, they get very big and a cutting stuck in the ground looks wilted for a couple weeks, but the comes from the ground! I bought two plants originally, and translplanted all over the garden, because it is instant impact. Just cut away what you don't want. I am in zone 9b/ Central Texas, but water them frequently and by the sprinklersystem once a week. They are performers!

      They seem to do pretty well! There’s a guy in Tallahassee who has a CZcams channel called Roses & Orchids in Tallahassee, FL and he REALLY does well with them! I haven’t had time to see if he tells his secrets on how he grows them. I don’t think he tells in his videos, but maybe he does in the comments section. - I just throw some Osmocote Plus in my containers, and hope for the best. I’m afraid to try to use organic fertilizers because I’ve using them several times in the past and raccoons dig it out and eat it. Ugh!

    Hi Rachel. I so look forward to your videos, and I'm never disappointed. I bought a Gertrude Jekyll rose last autumn as a bare root, so it was great to see what I can expect. I've just planted my first salvias, too. You see how influential you are . Your garden changes from one week to another, it's incredible how quickly your plants grow, here we are quite used to waiting waiting waiting 😅, another reason why I love your videos. Have you pruned your hydrangeas? I'm not an expert, but maybe they'd like a trim 🤷‍♀️. And wow your hollyhocks 😮 they do get very big and tall, the leaves will be massive. In my village, they grow everywhere, I love them along with fox gloves. Thankyou for sharing your wonderful world I shall almost certainly watch it again. Happy gardening ❤

      @gulfcoastbutterflygardening  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yay, Kim!!! You are going to LOVE Gertrude Jekyll! She smells the absolute best out of all of my roses! And I hope the salvias will be super performers for you, bringing all the butterflies and bees to your garden! - I did clip off a bunch of dead stuff on the hydrangeas last night. They still look scraggly. LOL! But there are weird buds on them in odd place. I hope they will fill out soon! - I love that you get to have foxgloves! What an ultimate cottage garden flower!!! They sell them at the nurseries here, but they can’t take the heat and therefore, have to “get out of the kitchen” by promptly dying as soon as the temps ratchet up. LOL! - Don’t you have apple trees? What was it that you planted under them last year?

    • @kimfox5186
      @kimfox5186 Před 4 měsíci

      Yes I have an eating apple tree and a crab apple tree. I planted camomille last year and it was a great success. I love the smell and so do the pollinators. This year it's coming back alone in stronger bunches so I'm very hapoy about that and I'm sure the apple tree is too. Companion planting is a must in a garden where no nasty chemicals are used 😀

Here’s what the Florida Extension says…..”Florida Betony is a common wildflower that spreads prolifically and is very attractive to pollinators. Almost the entire plant is edible to humans, including the tuber roots. These tubers give the plant it’s nickname of rattlesnake weed since they appear like the rattle of a rattlesnake. The roots can be harvested in spring time when they are white and crisp then eaten raw, pickled, or cooked in a dish.”
