As saddening as this is for everyone and for myself as well, just remember the impact he had on your life and make sure you don't ever forget to make sure new people or anyone know who he was and what he did for music and the whole entire world. I know this is a day that I won't ever forget. May his greatness become the essence of life for anyone in need of it. It's not a very common thing when a soul like his leaves this reality. So tragic to hear, but I think the best thing to do in honor of this day,l is to never forget about him and everything he has done to shape the world around him by doing the thing he loved the most. Rest in peace Neil🌌 I hope Cygnus is a hell of a place to live. What a legend. I hope his family will be able to heal and move forward with things. My deepest condolences to anybody who is firsthand affected by his passing. There will never be another one of him. No matter how great some people are, without his influence, they may have never even been a name. Thanks for everything Neil. Enjoy your afterlife friend, you deserve a great one.

A drumming virtuoso whose skills and talents will never be equalled. To call him a legend is a woefully inadequate compliment. Besides being history's premier drummer, he was a humble, quiet, educated, well read, decent human being. I'm a Rush fan for going on 50 years. It's been an honor.

I got to see him at both ends of the spectrum. FIrst opening for KISS of all people in 74' and lastly on the Clockwork Angels tour in Charlotte 12'. Both times on the front row center. He had that ability to transport you to where you were looking to get through that drum kit. You could close your eyes and your were in Africa a thousand years ago with those toms and that bass thumping. What a musician.

Sad to see people comment here just to try and say Neil Peart is overrated and start listing drummers they think are better. He has changed the face of drumming and rock for the passed 40 years not just with his drumming but all Rush's songs which he writes the lyrics to. Sure there are guys today that can out-maneuver Neil, but even those drummers would shake their heads at you for talking him down, as I can almost guarantee each of those drummers loves and was heavily influenced by Peart, he is a pioneer of modern rock and helped lay the path for modern drumming and the list of big names and celebrities that idolize him is staggering. And on top of that, this solo is actually one of his least impressive when ranked against all of them, like A Show Of Hands for example. He literally had the flu in this clip and was on the verge of cancelling the show! He will always be a legend.

All those drummers they are probably talking about are just slamming away with all kinds of rolls and noise that is never in time. Anyone can do that. I bet none of those drummers can play in time with RUSH as Neil pert did. He played in time signatures that would change from 4/4 to 6/8 even to 7/4 then back to 4/4 nailing it in the ass. There is no band today in the style of RUSH that can even come close to rush. If anyone disagrees with this you can KNOW they are all the way ignorant. Peace.....

Not this kit, but maybe the last one he had made when he had everything on the kit that was chrome, he had it all Gold plated. Every nut on a drum or stand to the drum head rings to everything. Had to be a pain in the ass for his drum tech because it would have been his job to polish all of that before every show. So yes that would be the drum kit I would like to see in the Smithsonian. There were only 3 of them made, 1 was given to Randy Johnson the pitcher as a gift from his team, Neil Pearts estate still owns the other 2. I would like to see one of them in the Rock - N - Roll Hall of Fame, and ì would assume the estate would keep the last one.

I just really hope that he didn't have to live out his final days in agony from any kind of excruciating pain. I bet it took a hell of a lot of pain to get to him, regardless though he deserved to end his days in whatever fashion he wanted, aside from it being the other day. But it also just so happens Peart's biggest drum influence the great Buddy Rich also happened to pass away from a brain tumor. Only difference is that Rich lived 3 days after surgery and then passed from complications. I think Neil Peart probably that in mind upon finding out and if so, I hope he felt some ease in his mind knowing that he was going to pass almost exactly the same way as his drum hero. I feel like that was in mind for himself and family, especially considering that they didn't publicize his passing until 3 days after. Coincidence or not? Who knows. If not still, I'm happy that even under his circumstances and it being pretty tragic to hear. I'm sure he is finally able to be reunited to his past wife and daughter he lost in tragedies. I just hope that people don't mourn forever and just appreciate that he was one of the best musician of any instrument to ever have lived, plus for all the endless inspiration he gave to probably easily millions of people and more to come. Sad sad sad news but I mean that's life. Crazy but he was actually mortal hahahahaha who would have known? Saw Rush live when I was 14, waaaaay back in Nov '74. Their words & music is the soundtrack of my life. Introduced my sons to them at a hot summer concert in 2003, along with 450,000 other fans. Now I'm 60, Neil is gone, I guess we all grow old. But when I play Headlong Flight or Working Man with the top down, everyone hears it and I feel young again.
      Rip Neil.

The first time I heard RUSH was Spirit of radio, was playing basketball with my older neighbor and it came on the radio at his house. We both stopped playing halfway through the song. I had never heard anything like it and was hooked. That was 40 some years ago. Finally went to see them in 2012. So glad I did. That was on my bucket list for a long time. I'm 53 and don't care about anything celebrity related. He was not a celebrity, didn't want the spotlight but he shared his awesomeness with us. I'm still bummed out.
