It's a tough decision. On the one hand, don't gamble. On the other, have you seen the new media deal that the NBA is going to be signing, where players can make up to $95mil per year? Here's the thing: Brunson is a gritty, tough player and if I had to guess, he won't be able to get another max contract at 33, because his body will be beat up. So he should get his money now while he can. It's about, what $120mil difference? Now it's one less year, so let's say $80 mil difference, assuming Brunson signs another one year deal for $40 mil to make the years add up. If his health holds up and he keeps playin well for two years, he's in line for a HUGE contract. I wouldn't blame him either way, but I think I'd hold out for more money. Either way, he's set for life, so it's not like he's going to starve!

Because its not that simple, eg YR 5 of 4yr scenario would be on another much higher contract. Thats why Chris said that YR 5 could be 70m alone, which makes total difference between scenarios only 44m. Leave the thinking to the smart guys. Edit: take in risk vs reward of signing earlier vs later, and its best you stay on your couch.
Cant use IT. It wasnt the fact that he got injured. It was the fact that he still trued to play and the team let him play and he made it much worse and they cut their losses then. Gettimg hurt wasnt the reason it was trying to play thru it.
I’d absolutely take the money right away because once you’ve hit a 100 million you’re 1000% set for life can do anything you want so gambling on “maybe” getting more the next year I think would be insane. Especially when you factor in his size , style of play, etc

Waiting one extra year for an extra $100 million when you've already got $100 in front of you on the plate is crazy. It could be the smallest move. We're not even talking about one of the hard fouls that messes up one of his lower body extremities or that weird hand thing he's got going on. And now, instead of the 156 pretty much ballpark guaranteed, you're either looking to be traded or significantly dropped to like 80 or so million, maybe less.
This is the other thing too. You're in a market that is arguably the financial capital of the world, Relatively speaking.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Yeah, he gets injured and we're all screaming, WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE THE CONTRACT??? But the difference in money is HUGE! Brunson is a gritty player, but will he be able to get another max at 33? I can understand going either way, but if it were me (easy to say, it ain't my money), I'd make the assumption that at 33, I'm not getting another max and I'd want all of my money I'm capable of getting, especially with the new media deal the NBA is signing.
