  • Let’s French with each other. Today, Thomas and James are with the team in the UK driving the Alpine A110. A lightweight mid-engined sports car focused purely on joy. Packing 252hp of 1.8l 4-cylinder heat, it’s not slow. But is it good enough to sign a petition to bring it over to North America? Watch the episode to find out as Thomas and James take it on the Welsh hills and dodge sheep!

      It's a small car which has double wishbone suspension all around, it eats into the small amount of space that's left more than a MacPherson strut suspension that for example the Cayman has, but on the flip side those great suspension and steering qualities you've heard about on the video are a result of that.
      I like your explanation better though 😂

    Hi viewer from France here, having talked to a couple of the engineers who worked on the A110 the main reason why it didn't come and won't come to the US is that it won't pass the crash test with the large SUV taken into account. They have tried it already and tested the A110 in the US but they thought that redesigning the car would be too expensive for them. Alpine is still a small company and has a smaller budget to develop their car so cost are important for them (the engine is sourced from a Megan RS, the volume controls are from a Clio). Hope this helps love your videos.

    Owner of a110 Gt (300 hp , 340 nm ) here , a few clarifications reading some comments : 1 - PERFORMANCE : The update more powerful A1100 with 300 hp has a better acceleration than an 400 hp Emira , tested by autotopnl in real life conditions and same tester... with 100-200 in 10.5 seconds , and the R in 9.5 seconds. 0-100 in 4,2 secs , even with normal michelin sport 4. European testers achieved stunning laptimes with the S and R , on par or better than 400 hp sport cars. So no lack of power at all, the cars weight 1034 to 1090 kg. 2 - SALES : over 20.000 produced and sold to date . These are way better numbers compared to Elise , Exgie and even 4c... especially considering the Alpine is out a few years. 3- OWNER COSTS : an Alpine is WAAYYYYY cheaper to own than a Porsche or more powerful sport cars in most european countries. Fuel consumption of barely 6L/100 km if you dont push it. Only 152 gr Co2 , so much lower road tax and assurance cost. Official service by the dealer is way cheaper than premium brands like Porsche. Same goes by replacement parts. 4 -DIMENSIONS : the A110 is small in a good way : fits perfect for tight mountain roads , parking in Europe etc. 5 - SPECS : the A110 can be personalized with over 40 stunning colors, a lot of specs wheels and details. You can be sure your a110 will turn heads being very esclusive car on the road. Not another 911 in white or black xD. Reading all above think twice before talking about a Corvette etc is a better option. You are comparing apple to oranges.

      On the other side of the spectrum, you can enjoy this car just for an early tour to grab your fresh croissants at the bakery nearby.
      The real annoying thing is the lack of glovebox for small essential items. It sucks improvising one with the optional archive box Alpine is selling.

    Dear Alpine A110,
    In the quiet moments of twilight, when the world is bathed in hues of amber and gold, my thoughts often drift back to you. You were more than just a car; you were a symphony of engineering and artistry, a testament to the beauty of precision and passion.
    I remember the first time I laid eyes on you, your sleek curves and elegant lines capturing my heart instantly. You were a vision of grace and power, a perfect blend of form and function. Every drive with you was an adventure, a dance on the open road where we moved as one, your engine’s purr a melody that resonated deep within my soul.
    We shared countless sunsets, racing against the dying light, your tires gripping the asphalt with unwavering confidence. The wind would rush past us, carrying away the worries of the world, leaving only the pure, unadulterated joy of the journey. You were my escape, my sanctuary, a place where I could lose myself and find myself all at once.
    Your spirit was untamed, your performance unmatched. Each twist and turn of the road was a testament to your agility and strength. You responded to my every command with a grace that was almost ethereal, making even the most mundane drives feel like a grand adventure. Together, we conquered mountains and valleys, city streets and country roads, each journey a chapter in our shared story.
    But as with all beautiful things, our time together was fleeting. The memories we created are etched in my heart, a bittersweet reminder of what once was. I often find myself longing for those days, for the thrill of the ride and the comfort of your presence. You were more than just a car; you were a companion, a confidant, a piece of my soul.
    And now, as I sit here reminiscing, I can’t help but smile through the melancholy. For though our time together was brief, it was filled with moments of pure magic. And in the world of Forza Horizon 5, you continue to live on, a digital echo of the perfection that was the Alpine A110.
    Forever yours, A Devoted Driver

    The audio/phone stalk is THE BEST THING EVER. Renault has been using these for years and there's a good reason: they need a minute of getting used to and then they are insanely intuitive. I am sad to see these things go and be replaced with a cluster of buttons on the wheel.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo Před 18 dny

      They are OK. The cruise control buttons randomly scattered over the steering wheel and centre console are a disaster (because French!). The Renault audio stalk is tradition from the 90's before steering wheels buttons, but all other auto makers (e.g., Honda) do just fine with buttons for both audio AND cruise on the steering wheel you can *actually see* while driving without having to have had memorised. I like Renault, but it's disingenuous to say they have good ergonomics going by my Mk3 Megane. The aforementioned steering wheel cruise buttons didn't even light up (fixed on Mk4 and A110, but that's still not very good), whereas on a slightly earlier realise Honda they light up.
      My Megane GT220 manual still had the kickdown at the end of the accelerator even though it's a manual (supposedly VWs are the same), that's a lack of attention to detail compared to a Honda where it is not there (as why should it be). Then you have the bar under the dash to extend the brake pedal to the right side of the car, since the master cylinder is still on the left... The clutch goes through the firewall still on the left too and just has extension hoses over to the right. Then you have rubber bushes which give a rubbery manual shift feel compared to nylon bushings in a Honda Type R (why didn't RenaultSport/Alpine change those out for nylon bushes? lots of complaints of rubbery Meg GT/RS shifters could have been so easily solved?). That's a lot of lack of attention to detail in all kinds of areas!

      I agree, it's strange they brought that. I saw a lot a Alpine A110 review and the reason why there is no manual is because of money. With the budget they had, the options were a good manual or a good DCT or a mid manual and mid DCT. They choose the DCT because of the market buy automatics.

    Safety, emissions and fuel economy standards that are disproportionately more stringent towards small and lightweight cars will keep masterpieces like this from ever coming to North America. The Alfa 4C, for instance, was a similarly aimed vehicle that ended being over 300lbs heavier in North America than Europe.
    Certifying these vehicles to be sold in the US while keeping the weight down is difficult and very expensive. On a car that's unlikely to be super profitable, there's little incentive for car companies to bother. It's why nearly every car in North America gets bigger, heavier, uglier and dumber with each passing year. Our laws have been killing small, lightweight cars for years and there's no chance in us changing course.

For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

    The Toyota GR86 has, near as makes no difference, the same power (~250) but is naturally aspirated and so the power curve is superior (it is) to that of the turbocharged Alpine, is available with a manual transmission, weighs only slightly more, and costs less than half as much (~US$30,000). *Some* people would buy the Alpine were they to bring it to NA, yes, but...not as many as you two seem to think, in my opinion.

    • @mugenmark
      @mugenmark Před 24 dny +1

      The GR86 only has 228bhp and is so much slower. Here in the UK they struggle against a Fiesta ST on the road. I used to own a stage 2 400bhp Focus RS and a standard Alpine left me for dust at Brands Hatch near where I live such is the power to weight and handling of them.
