Yeh, I feel the same. I mean I get what James is saying, but to me looks great XD. Ok, maybe they could have done a bit more for rear visibility, but I like the slight drop and mold to that smug rear boot line :D

I love the aesthetic of that car. And the fact that it's a small, lightweight supercar-ish French contrarian car makes it quite likely James's perfect vehicle.
I hear the terroir on this is brilliant!
I don't normally like French cars, but this one is pretty!

I mean... He is the mother of the modern top gear.
A review with added like, comment and subscribe!
that is what people really want , the old top gear back, the old country back, the old life back...
Are you surprised ?
I've seen quite a few of these on the roads here in Belgium and I think they look fantastic from most angles. They're unfussy and not too brash, which is rare for this class of car these days.
The 'S' does 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 161mph coupled with 40mpg (even when driving 'enthusiastically'). The double clutch gearbox is excellent (jumped from a 718 Cayman PDK into the A110 and never questioned the gearbox).
After extensive research, number crunching and soul searching I just ordered the A110s. I looked at the market. Took everything for extended test drives (days not minutes). The Alpine makes too much sense to ignore; performance that leaves you grinning from ear to ear and an everyday practicality that allows it to be used as a daily drive.
Is it a 718 Cayman basher? Only the Porsche GTS4 and the GT4 would be 'better' but then you are in a different ball park. Go and try one. Get your head round the fact that you don't have to play 'German badge wars' any more and enjoy arguably the best sports car around.
For anyone interested the film was shot Near Compton Abbas airfield, just south of Shaftsbury, Dorset. My local area and roads I drive often.
Bro even the step in model porsche Cayman with the 2l turbo is better in every way than this.
@@swansmeister in every way ? Try using a scale.
Bro, preaching to the choir, I sold my s2 Lotus not to long ago so don't try to lecture me, the cayman is hardly a heavyweight and beats the Alpine or should I say Renault in terms of power and pretty sure it goes faster round a track also.
@@swansmeister I disagree and it very rarely loses a head to head against the 718 in YT reviews - both in terms of track time and pleasure. Tuck your prejudices aside and test drive it, it is a wonderful drivers' car. (Elise S2 owner)
@@hyweltthomas I seen the reviews of Steve Sutcliffe, he did a comparisson vid witht the two I believe and he said the same. Second I would refuse to buy a what, 80k pound car thats just shares parts with a clio, it's an overpriced gimmick and the looks are also questionable but thats more opinion ofc so don't realy matter. An s2 exige for example looks way better and the s3 also still looks better imo.

New rules: max length 4.0m, width 1.8m, weight 1000Kg, power 75kW. Then the politicians and enviromentalists might calm down?
or, with due deference to Sir Alec Issigonis, 3.3m x 1.4m x 700 Kg x 45 kW is all you really need, but they don't withstand a crash very well.
@@john1703 "...they might calm down?" They won't. Their ultimate goal is your destruction. They will never stop, so don't give them an inch.
@@mattmattmatt131313 If you talk about environmentalist, their ultimate goal is to save you and the others, even if it mean to leave your car behind. Nowadays, scientific projection clearly shows that we can't expect to live like before (nevertheless, not necessarily at a very rich lvl). Owning a reasonably equipped house, with 2 children in it and a reasonably sized car is already to much. I love the alpine, but unfortunately, she and the others (even electrics), has to disappear. Humans need to decrease to survive
Probably one of the best Drivetribe videos yet; everything just felt spot on. Audio, cinematic style, pacing, script, James, comedy, subject. For what is a relatively simple video, it's certainly one to be proud of.
Exactly!
i'd never seen a James video but immediately enjoyed it for his love of cars, driving & his appreciation of the Alpine
This car is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars in my eyes, it’s so incredibly elegant, and that blue certainly helps.
On the note of making vehicles smaller and more lightweight, I really wish the market in North America would steer towards hatchbacks and wagons instead of crossovers and SUVs.
The leading example I use is a 2020 Civic hatchback has the same cargo space as many small crossovers and SUVs !!
Really wish we had a "wagon craze" instead of a "soccer mom crossover craze".
I have a 2018 GTI SE and LOVE IT

Would it be better if manual? 😀 one can dream
100%. As well as a lot more smiles per gallon it is also usable 365 days a year. You don't have to fear speed bumps, rain, long motorway miles and an enjoyable car you can use often is >> a spectacular car you use very rarely.

@@RichardEnglander Honestly no, it's so nimble it keeps you very busy, I don't think anybody but people with bags of talent would have time. I'm with you that it can be a real bonus to a car (GR Yaris for example) - but in this case I wouldn't want it

I have to say, I think the modern A110 is one of the few cars that really pulls off the retro design look. I think its absolutely gorgeous from every angle. I think this is largely due to it still being quite small. Other cars (500 and Mustang) have grown in size exponentially, therefore the design language doesn't look right.
@Sean Haley Yea your right. While I DO like the Mustang, the longer disproportionate nose reminds me more of the 71 Mach 1 in Stephen Seagal's movie ' Marked For Death '.
Absolutely ! It has unique and - dare I say it - 'timeless' styling. Sorry James, you're quite wrong on this.
I disagree i think all three cars look great compared to most cars on the road
The original A110 had exactly that look its not new.
I actually think it’s a very pretty car. The back end especially is beautiful. If I’m unsure about anything it’s the quad headlights, but overall I think it looks great
That “Roman Catholic” quip caught me off-guard and had me lol’ing.
