That is nothing I installed in one day by myself 22 downlights the celing it was wrost than this one
Which camera tripod is it you've got and fits the dewalt laser lavel?
I got a USB C Camera, plugged into my Android phone, light and vision about 1/4 the size for $12 AU. Delivered from China. Simpler than WiFi.
Finally something interesting to watch on CZcams today! Love it when you post new videos. Great job guys!
Love that half tape measure trick! That’s going to save me so much time in the future. I use me laser and tear of little pieces of electrical tape to mark my downlight positions, saves that patch up or the pencil/texture dot is in the wrong spot . Makes it easy to see as well when you stand back
The Dynamic Duo. Well done guys.
Father and son working well again together 😜
Picked up some nice tricks there.
Cheers boys🤜
Another thing to do for finding a decent spot for down lights, buy a strong magnet and find the screws in the board. Leave each magnet on each joist snd you can see where is safe and where is not to drill
I was gonna say the same thing. There’s one called ‘ stud buddy ‘ and it works brilliantly
Yeah, they really help and are really handy to have in your van
If you've got an old PC or laptop destined for the tip you can reverse engineer them to get at the very very strong magnets in the hard drive mechanism. I've got them in my tool bag and they find plasterboard screws easily.
Jordan had one of these on one of his tool video's a little while back now.
He can also get a bit more expensive stud finder that doesnt only rely on a screw.
I do the bit of wood technique when DIYing - little tip: if you pop the centre screw you're going to use in first you've got a handle to hold onto it while you fix it in place. Doubly useful if repairing a hole in a stud wall!
Little tip for you, always assume (and it’s 95% accurate) that the last spark put the pendants half on a joist anyway for a good fixing himself 👌🏼
I would say 100% of sparkies when wiring would of clipped it to the nearest joist, especially as it looked like it was wired as a newish build
Well that's an apprentice/school boy error I bet Ruben pissed himself of camera.
@@joe2395 yea, I’ve only come across a handful that wasn’t half on a joist
100% agree
Thank you for this, trained sparkie but out of the trade for a good few years now so very, very helpful 😊
And we are back!! Loving the content
Thanks very much
Great video as usual, just a little one it’s recommended that all lights should be at least 300mm away from any smoke / heat / carbon monoxide detectors.
Tape measure trick 👍you learn something new every day 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
great video guys. I can highly recommend a flexible usb camera. I bought one off Amazon, probably about £30 and it has been a godsend. it has something metallic in it a bit like that wire you did so when you bend it, it holds the shape. Unlike the camera you strapped to the rod, the one I have is about 6mm diameter max, so you can drill a little borehole, shove it through and you can have eyes wherever you need.👍
Tape measure trick. Old dogs like me not seen that. Alright for you younguns with twenty twenty vision ! I would need a telescope handy 😀. Great vid. A credit to the downlighting industry ! 👏
I've been sat on the channel page for 10 mins, it didn't occur to me that maybe pressing refresh would help lol, great video as always lads!
Haha well done got there in the end!
Great video today !
I must admit I do like watching funny as well informative. Switched on cookie Cory
the dynamic duo Cory & Reuben brighten a hallway and office
Thanks!
Great vid
I prefer using an old paint bucket handle to feel for joists
It’s bent at a 90 degree angle and it can’t bend out if you hit something solid
Also gives you great feel and feed back on if it feels like timber or a metal pipe
Been spamming refresh for the past 5 minutes :) Glad to see another video from Artisan Electrics!
Welcome aboard! Do you have notifications turned on? If you do then it helps as you will get a little pop up notification every time a video launches
very educational and top work too!
Thanks
Great finish to the job guys... Could have been a nightmare one...
Nice one👌🏻 top video again 👍🏻
Thanks ✌
Another top vid guys👍
Thanks 👍
Top work lads 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Instead of using the bit of cable to feel for the joists, I usually use a little ‘knocking driver’ usually a 2.5mm screwdriver or smaller and knock it up on a angle to feel around 👌🏼 (Another tip for apprentice sparks)
Great video once again and shouldn’t be to long until Ruben can do this install himself 👌🏼⚡️
Great tip!
A metal coat hanger is good to use to check for ceiling obstructions.
Best get the Stud Buddy in your amazon basket perfect when doing downlights or adding a socket in a plasterboard wall and not sure if there's a stud in the way
I use a long thin screwdriver and make 4 holes around the circumference of the new fitting on the ceiling. This checks for obstructions and suitable depth. Small holes are easy to fill if in the wrong place. Also I use sticky circlesof paper to find out the best pattern, spacing on the ceiling before drilling etc.
Great tips!
That's the only way I know
Good video
Loving the up next video “magic stud finder 😂😂😂”
Haha thanks I don't think Cory has seen that one LOL
Careful Reuben! Bundy 10 has claimed dynamic duo with his cap. Gotta find another superhero character. Lol. Great video lads!
Confirmed
Did you have to go under any joists then backfill with the plasterboard cut out?
I love the sign on the toilet door.
In conjunction with the Ferret Wifi Inspection Camera have you considered using a compact (for eg. Milwaukee C18RAD-0 18V) Right Angle Drill to drill through the ceiling joists? That would reduce the amount of holes in the plaster ceiling.
You really take a chance drilling through a joist where you can't see what's on the back of it, could be a cable or a pipe.
Good tips there mate
Thanks 👍
@@artisanelectrics no dramas
Cory I'm a spark of 30 odd years and loved and used your lil wire trick to check for obstacles paid dividends today on an 8 spot install kitchen refurb..1st hole I encountered a bunch of 4 cables tight on a double boarded ceiling would have gone straight through them with the 75mm hole saw if I hadn't used your tekkers u saved my bacon bud 👍🏻keep up the good work
When blind drilling in to ceilings always do one thing first. 1. Always know where the water & gas shutoff is for the house. "If/when" you hit a water line you will be really happy you know where the shutoff is while water is flooding the ceiling and floor. Ask me why I preach that! You never know what is lurking above that ceiling that was just installed in an area it shouldn't be. 😎👍⛈
Good tip
Good one, have ran around trying to find the water tap after chasing though water before 😂
Cory, what you been saying about cablesmith electrical?
One of the neighbours wanted down lighters in our apartment block years ago, she called electrician out, and couldnt understand why he couldnt fit them, the ceilings concrete floor and Beam and block, not suspended/joists eg no void.
Add a screw into the centre of the piece of wood for fixing the patch to holes while you screw into place on either side.
Artisan Electrics angle drilling, and now Swiss cheese drilling 😂
Another banging video! Artisan Electrics has definitely become my 4th favourite….. Can you guess top 3? 😂
Watching this video with my 4 and 2 year old and she turned around and said…. They are both good boys fixing that house 😂😂
Stud finder is helpful
Excellent video team--as a matter of interest, Which brand of down lights, are the usual “go to”, lights Artisan use, and why -many thanks.
They look like JCC V50s to me, I like them as they have interchangeable bezels, IP and fire rated, and not too expensive
Yeah we always use V50s they are great
@@artisanelectrics thanks Jordan
The best part is 245.5-35..... 😃😃😃😃
Only Scott Flannsberg could answer you so quickly on this occasion.
you need to send your joist finder off for calibration. Made it look easy as always.
Come on Cory it was pretty obvious the pendant would be screwed to a joist!
Everyone makes mistakes buddy, sure you've made plenty yourself.
Great job ive had a bet u will get 100 0000 subscribers b4 new year
Hope so!
When you have to drill out a joist to fish a wire across, I find it easiest to just use the same hole saw that your cutting down lights out with. Easy to patch afterwards because you have all the cut out drywall pucks from the lights, and no need to grab your board sword
@UnjustifiedRecs no, he was using his drywall saw to cut out some rectangular holes to get a wire through a joist. Instead, just use the hole saw
Could’ve ended up as Swiss cheese. 🧀. Good job.
Quick question... Who's responsible for repairing and making good the additional holes made to feed wires etc.. as if there was never a hole there in the first place? The electrician or the homeowner?
No 1 answer, up to the spark to advise customer there mite be damage to make good by others unless the spark says it’s down to them. Most sparks will fill holes but not return to sand back and paint.
Just when I thought Andy Klein was the master with a tape measure ... which puts Cory in second ... Cory watch izzy swan ... this vice does more than meets the eye. ... 2.27 in he pulls the tape from the belt ... practise that and you get tape measure hander number spot 1 ;)
Why dont you use a stud finder? Or just give it an old fashioned knock?
So we just fit downlights next to smoke detectors now?
Jeez, I stayed to the end, what a balls up, it's a wonder you get any more work from this.
100mm holesaw for cutting holes at joists, run the cables and refit 100mm plasterboard you first cut. No timber required and far quicker.
Great tip
Hi Guys, why do you wear body cameras?
Can someone explain to me why he just doesn’t go in the loft
Was there hardwood flooring upstairs so you couldn't lift the floor and save all the damage to the ceiling?
What is the reason you're not using a stud finder to give you a clue before you start drilling? Surely that would save some time?
Stud finders can be good, but after a lot of use they get dirty and leave marks on the ceiling and or potentially give a false reading like double gyprock.
Hey Jordan what drill is more power full the DeWalt Hilti or Makita pls make a video on tha
Most powerful drill is the milwaukee fuel 18v. That drill fucks
@@tysonkauth7232 thats true but Im talking about the drill they have
What is the average price for spot lights ??
$5
Even the toilet requires PPE!
😂
Cory been eating dodgy vegan curry or beans? 😀
Here's a little tip. Buy some strong magnetic hooks from amazon and they find all the screw heads holding the plasterboard up thus highlighting where the joists are.
Don't need an apprenticeship for that eh
Great video, lights should be 300mm away from any Smoke Alarms though.
Unless you're going to repaint the ceiling, it would be smart to use white gloves, then you don't leave gray fingermarks all over. Even though you have clean hands, this will happen.
Bet being 8’ tall helps with installing lighting? 😁
why not just use a stud finder?
Smoke detectors should be at least 300mm from light fitting.
As I understand it this is due to airflow, so would this matter on downlight fittings given they're recessed?
@@James01 Could be - just states, light fitting.
Smoke detectors should preferably be fitted to the ceiling in a central position and at least 300mm from any wall or light fitting. Check the manufacturers instructions carefully when deciding where to position them - particularly if you are going to mount them on the wall. Wall mounted detectors should generally be fixed between 150mm and 300mm below the ceiling.
Keep up the good work on here mate u do a raelly good job on here mate hove a good day mate form Greg bouchard u do a relly good job on here mate form Greg bouchard
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think I would have you round to carve up my ceilings. As an ex electrician I would have been sacked doing what you do.... We called them cowboys. Have you ever used the "Lighting Formula" ?
More holes than a block of swiss cheese 😆😆😆
Why are sparks so afraid of buying a decent wall scanner will show you where the joist are as well as rebar an £700 is f**k all in the grand scheme of things.
Even a cheap stud finder gives a decent idea without the need to punch holes in the ceiling!
I have a stud finder but I think it’s faulty as it constantly beeps every time I pick it up.
@@supersparks9466 ho ho ho!
@@supersparks9466 Cheap "stud finders" are useless they use cheap basic capacitive sensors to detect changes in density. Proper wall scanners use radio waves and can resolve far more information more accurately.
You need to go back and move the smokes , too close to lights.
Utility room looked even closer than the hall !
I can't understand the obsession with downlighters. If you'd installed the same number of pendants, using LED bulbs with the same rating as the GU10s (or whatever you used there), the rooms would all be far brighter due to the reflected light from the ceiling. Downlighters simply shine intense pools of directional light rather than well diffused light.
They are nice because you can load the shit out of a circuit with them. Because you can't replace them, once you calculate the load, you can fit like 140 on 1 circuit. Anything with a bulb has to be treated like the owner will put incandescent bulbs in for some reason.
For some reason the UK is down lighter crazy, in some situations you have to use them, such as low ceilings etc, but there are other options
IMO the best lights for most reception / living rooms are wall-mounted uplights; bouncing the light off of the ceiling makes it so much softer and you don't get that intense downlight glare. But retrofitting uplights is so disruptive.
@@simongreenidge6454 yeah your right, plus down lights do cast shadows
You're so damn right. The lighting situation is even worse now, in my opinion. White ceiling and walls all over the place but dark flooring. Why on earth do they need to have downlight-based lighting only?
Ok!But now in a concrete ceiling...
who would try to put downlights in a concrete ceiling.
@@nw5835 I’ve got six of them in my living room and 5 in the bathroom…but done when the house was completely gutted and renovated before we bought it. The rebar would be the biggest issue in getting them in place
@@martinbateman2467 Oh I see, a very dusty job I imagine.
If you're vans we're plane black and look like funeral vans they might be less attractive to theives
Jesus Christ, always expect a pendant to be screwed to some wood, I suspect you took screws out of it? What about using a small metal bit as a pilot to check for wood, thats my top tip 🙄
Your trick is using cable as a Braddle? Why not just use a braddle like you should do 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
What's Pythagoras theorem got to do with anything here? To be honest your maths knowledge seems pretty poor for a spark.
@Killian Franz I'm not an angry fighter behind my screen, I'm an electrician with 40 years experience who despairs at these so called professionals more interested in filming themselves than doing a proper job.
Anyway, your explanation doesn't make sense, he's not using a triangle, just a straight line.
@Killian Franz The definition of Pythagoras Theorem.
The area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the other two sides.. This is for right angle triangles only.
So, oh knowledgeable one, explain in detail where Pythagoras comes into it? Surely he should have said trigonometry?
This was so bad and painful to watch.
