You should start to get James to plan out some of these jobs. He might not always be right or to your standard but it will get him thinking.
Hats off to ever boarded the attic, bang tidy job.
You are the only sparkie on video I have heard who has mentioned that pearl of wisdom about the earth link being the longest, so it is the last to "pull out". I am not a sparkie, but I learnt that one a few decades ago (in my electronics life) and realised its importance immediately, so never forgot it.
At 11:45, I envisaged an Only Fools and Horses moment with James under the wrong hole.
Hey Chris, your mix of talking us through the job, timelaps and then showing us the finished products were spot on with this one mate.
Hi Chris/James,
Great installation! Glad you got your well deserved biscuit!
You always cheer me up and make me laugh because you are always so laid - back and cheerful! See you on the next upload! Stay safe.
👍⚡️
Great comment thanks for watching
Can't be the only one thinking of the Only Fools and Horses chandelier scene, when Chris was asking James if he's under the light he's drilling 😂
Haha yeah
😂😂😂 first thing that I thought off
Nice job 👍 i did one similar a few years ago, got a call last year saying that one of the lights had fell through the ceiling - customer had threw a suitcase on top of one of the lights 😂
Great audit - well put together video - good job done, You Smashed it as they say… and you look after that lad well too.
In regard to your opening comments about jcc "retro" gu10 lights. Totally agree. I never went onto fitting integral built in led downlights for the reason that average person will not be able to change fitting.. while a simple gu10 lamp holder with 5 watt led bulb is easy swap. Good to see other sparks on same wavelength. Keep up the good work n videos 👍🏾
Perfect upload timing 👊. Time for a dinner and big screen watch 😜
I totally get the benefit of using cans over intergrated fittings. It’s just the beam angle is night and day between the two
I like those connection boxes. I use to use 4 way junction box...
We use the JCCs Fireguards at our place. Great bit of kit :) no messing about
Great job 👍
Gr8 job well done guys hi from Malta
Fitted kosnic integrated for couple years now. No call backs. 1 faulty one (neutral earth) cant complain.
Ansell every time , much easier for client to replace the lamp, no worries when ceiling has been painted 👍
Interesting. I always wonder which best product is. Jcc... Aurora.. ansell... Enlight...
Sure there is others but all various different prices n quality etc
To be fair Chris James could probably fit his own Downlights at this stage because he has such a Good Teacher / Mentor
Good work ! Older video but still very relevant,
Another good job 👍
Well done Chris (yes this is my real name, had it since birth!). I fitted the old JCC fireguard swivels quite recently and was a bit 'meh' about them, these "next gen" ones look like a vast improvement. Thanks for showing them around and you can tell JCC that it was worthwhile sponsoring you here!
Cheers your a Reeves I’m a Reeve massive difference 👍
I've had a 2 Saxby integrated fail, in 9 months at same location hoping it's a bad batch as my wholesaler says 😅, I've gone back to retro fit GU10, Shame floodlights aren't the same 30,000 hrs my @£$€, great video Chris
Just think Chris. If you train James you can send him up in the loft and
Save you knees. It’s rare to see bundy in a loft these days 😜
I installed a built-in lamp above the shower, IP65 and 12 volts, MR16.
The other, where no water is, are GU10 with the same diameter.
Great job.
Nothing like a hot loft in June ,with dust crap at least those ones not full of furniture, we love it don,t we.
"I have an electrican coming to add downlights... let me clean up and move stuff out of the way for them!"
Words you will never hear as a spark
These tanks were common in old RAF housing in the 1970s. Personally, if I was the homeowner I would have had the tank removed before reboarding the loft.
Nice job 😎
Chris: There is an asbestos tank so we are going to stay away from that.
*casually mounts his Milwaukee lights on the top*😂😂
Good job
After using a batch of integrated type ,which at least 60% went in about 6 months and were fitted on different jobs have gone back to the g 10s and leave the customer spare bulbs for them to change, they do a make which come with a plug and skt which is ideal for testing 👍
Totally agree with you.
I'm my experience with the integrated led lights, it is often that the driver is the thing that fails. In larger surface mounted lights it is usually easily replaceable.
I do not like replaceable led bulbs as most of them have very poor cooling.
Another great video Chris! Always would be nervous when drilling up/down through ceiling into hidden void under floor boards...a hidden pipe would end the day on a very bad note!
Long pokey pokey is your friend
Levered wago's are for stranded cable...they make the push finish ones for solid and i think they're cheaper if i remember right
Jcc are decent lights used them a few times!!
Why not put the connection box on the light under the floor also - easy to drop light push it between ceiling and flooring then reposition light fittings...
Good video Chris.
I think you'll find that a Hoover is a brand name and as you had a Milwaukee vacuum, you should've called it a vacuum!(Only joking, don't you hate it when people say things like that!)
You need to get yourself a pair of Jokari or Ideal twin & earth strippers, they'll save you loads of time doing downlights, sorry, saw later in the video I saw you had some!
Great tip about the long CPC cable, unfortunately there's not usually enough room in the fitting to do that.
Shame you didn't find any socks under the floorboard haha.
Yeah really annoying 😁
Great work thanks for sharing this with us take care
Good vid, Got to be the cleanest loft ive seen yet! What dimmer do you use for LED's?
6:00 I had only fools and horses visions for a moment 😂
Hi Chris, great vid,.What lamps do you prefer to fit in the GU10’s?
10:53 I'd have put a 3-way connector in the Wago box so I can connect 2 cables to the feed cable, run 1 to the end light on the right and the other to the middle light and connected it like you did in the video...
That would have saved going from the feed to the end light and then back-tracking to the middle light. I think it would have looked a little cleaner, though your job looks OK...
That loft is crying out for some Bundy10.
Who doesn't love working in a hot stuffy loft 😂
I prefer to hide the light connector box under the floorboards - by lifting floorboard up, so no holes in boards either. Its a sore eye them sitting on floorboards, especially if you want to convert the loft into a room.
You wouldn’t be using that floor if you converted it into a room would you
Great video mate but how lucky are you to find a loft so neatly boarded out and clean and none of that nasty fibre glass insulation that gets under your skin and itches for days. But later on in the video I think you may have chanced upon some. But nevertheless very tidy work. I think working lofts makes most Sparkies hankering after new builds.
7:30 got to be so specific with apprentices never know what their going to do
Interesting video, TBH an untidy install by your very high standards.
How is it untidy?
@@johnlennon1151 boxes and cable across a floor. Prevents the floor being used for storage
@@smoggydrones5664 The customer will place boxes ontop of the cables
I never did find the answer as to what the piggyback lead is for on the Kewtech MFT
James looks like a young Rodney Trotter.
"Poopee💩" what is it James? 🤣
You sound like my mate of many years...'I need four inches but I've got seventy five ' !!! I ask him to measure what I need to cut some mini trunking at and he will reply ' forty two inchess and a few mm ' eh ? what? I say, can we stick to imperial or metric please, for one measurement 😂😂😂
Why not put the junction boxes under the floor? - maybe put the cable in 16mm mini trunking so more protected from stuff being plonked on top?
Small loft didn’t have much in and nothing above bigger bedroom.
Bigger loft we managed to fish.
most people throw cables on top of the insulation anyway lol including me we’re all guilty of it but it’s no more protected than it would be in a normal loft that’s not boarded in my opinion
6:34 Bring the hoover up through the hole that would make fun viewing 😆😆😆
I've started fitting the fireguard lights. I do like them but I've been getting them via mail order which is not ideal.
Many electrical wholesalers stock them
23:35 sounds like a David Savery video 😆😆😆
Yeah, you are got to have a light to see were your light is...And then another light to see were your second light is, etc..
What lamps you using big man?
What hole saw are you using?
Great video as always. What are your thoughts on the collingwood H2's. Never seem to fail and a nice finish too.
Only fit the flood lights not really tried the down lights.
The connections are a pig compared to alot on the market, personally love ansells prism pros!!!!
Not a bad fitting at all👍🏽. I’m a convert to the bell firestay down lights c/w the optional magnetic metal bezel onto the white finish. Decent body / flange ratio so really forgiving if you’re not perfect like me 😑
They seem pretty decent though I've had 2 out of 21 fail within 3-5 years that only ever saw very occasional use. Maybe the design has been revised since then though.
Personally I've lost count of the Collingwood down lights I've fitted and as yet only been called back to replace 3 and those were damaged by surges as other led lights in the property were also affected. Addition of surge protection to the property solved the issue!
i’d get the apprentice on his own doing that leave him to do it only way to learn rather than overseeing them whilst doing it and constantly criticising
I'd be concerned that the client will just pile stuff on top of those floor holes / junction boxes. I know the aim is for client-maintainable fittings (good idea!) but in this case would a shallow non-replaceable type be better?
Clients fully aware of the situation with the flooring. I’d rather drill the holes than fit integrated lights. So many call backs
@@Cjrelectrical Understood! Good plan, I've never liked idea of throw-away fittings anyway.
@@Cjrelectrical What about the Lucecos from Screwfix Chris - you swore by them in the last year and if memory serves me you installed in your own home?
I have about 20 in my place all on dimmers - no problems in a year touch wood
Had 3 fail in a batch. So bye bye lucecos
@@Cjrelectrical wallop! It's all it takes. Thanks for the reply.
Do you still recommend these lights? I need to purchase a bunch for the kitchen and bathroom. Thanks for the content mate
Yep my go too spotlights
Do you ever find you have problems with dimmer switches tripping the RCD?
Never
Neat job! 👍👌 29:55 - Is it weird that LED turn on individually, rather than all at same time? 🤔
Just got to set dimmer up and increase minimum dimming level.
@@Cjrelectrical Ahh didn't know this could be done. Again nice job and very neat cable management 👍
What camera do you use Chris? The audio quality is really good
Hero 9
@@Cjrelectrical thank you
First time I seen an asbestos tank in a attic about shit myself grey looking coffin in a pitch black loft hate those things
Always think down lighters in a domestic setting look dreadful - make it seem so commercial.
The most widely used lighting in domestic settings for a good few years now suggests otherwise!
to get thoese drill .. erm carpet out of the drill, id like to turn it on and off constantly, while tapping while a screwdriller, makes it falls out easily, if that dosnt work i use thjje ones where u can out inject the middle drill of the rest and tap it out. if all thoese options are out I choose yours :P

im kinda suprised ur using the locking ones with screw,
although at 15 u learned me a trick ;) that was smart
18.55 1000000= always secure ur installation. people are stupid
Chris you will be outted soon for Heightism on James !!!

So here is my call for the 19th and 20th edition. You will move away from hidden or maintenance free junction boxes with lights, and down lights contained in boxes of their own which house the wires and connections and those device boxes will act as accessible JBs as well. This will bring the UK in line with US NEC code.
Should we move to 110V too?
@@chriscommons8140 completely different issue that’s a choice made long, long ago it’s not just voltage differences there are frequency differences to consider as well 60hz v 50hz. But you already have alternate voltage circuits such as SELV, PELV or FELV.
@@mathman0101 We've had to go with our over the channel neighbours for many years now and adapt BS7671 to suit. Quite often I find it's not the method of connection that is at fault but the person responsible for making the connection.
@@chriscommons8140 I hear you.
I see the cable clips every where, an thought who kicked them over, I did that with a tub of raw plugs then promptly knocked them over again after picking them up
Haha nightmare
I think Chris could do with an electric cable stapler. Like mark allison
Oh think I win this one... ended a day doing 20 circuit board change by stepping backwards onto my box of crimps I had out for the RCBO neutral leads. Shattered the box, crimps everywhere all mixed together.
Any jobs going? ⚡️
I dont get why the earth isn't sleeved like the other two cores. Isn't it super annoying to always put that green/yellow stuff on? Here in germany earth is just another core with sleeving. Also earth has the same size like the other cores in the cable

I’ve learnt to plan working days better now than I used to.
Complaining about your knees again? Why do you not use strap-on heavy duty knee pads? They should be available at all reputable hardware shops, in a variety of pad densities and protective/strength surfaces. I have a pair that are so good, I can crawl on my knees over rough scoria surface -- and not be bothered by it.
Got a decent set can’t get on with them
