    Well done, fella. Good on ya.
    I got my PSV just before my 20th birthday and 30 years on just moving over to the dark side, HGV. Lockdown thwarted my plans, the training (only 8 hrs) and test were booked for the 4- 6th July. As for revision material.
    I signed up for the DVSA, online learning facility. I couldn't recommend it enough, it was brilliant. Learning & testing on the theory and hazard perception test clips. The only thing that I had to teach myself, ( quite perversely), was not to react to hazards too soon and lose points. I guess years on the road makes you read things a lot further ahead. Pretty chuffed to get 93% on HP & 95% on theory, I'd have hung my head in shame if any less though! (Also a PSV Transport Manager CPC Holder)
    As I passed my test 3 million years ago, I am in a fortunate position not to have to do the Mod2 & Mod4 CPC as my existing one covers this. (YAY)
    Subscribed and look forward to seeing how you progress, it's kind of like looking at a younger me when I started back in the bus game.

    How are you my friend! Tom from NYC here,I'm a former otr trucker here in the states and I go to uk, irish, and us trucking sites fairly often. I admire your focus and determination pal! You'll do well in the biz. Just dont get married before 30. I was thinking if uk drivers would get together and rate the driving courses they took to sort the good from the bad, it could help out alot of the potential drivers . Here in the states we have some really good driving schools and some not so good. I went to the latter type and I think it was a drag on my driving career at first.
    But anyway congrats on the career move and I'll see you on the backhaul

    Hiya, I'm 20 and I'm very interested in getting my class 1 however I currently only hold a full car licence and don't have a great idea of the best way into the industry/training.
    I do have an income (greatly supported by overtime thanks to real world issues) that should allow me to pay for it all myself like how you described in the video however I've heard a bit about getting "sponsored training" provided with pretty nuch guaranteed work at the cost of a set 2 year contract.
    Are these sponsored training things all just nonsense that will just stuff me over? Or are they worth looking into?
    Many thanks if you reply

    • @YoungTruckerUK
      @YoungTruckerUK  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi mate, to be honest I steered clear of the sponsored training route. I saw it as a way for the company to pay me less and treat me like a work horse for the 2 years I would have been there. No reason not to just pay for it yourself as, if you are in a good area for work, you will find a job anyway. Keeping in mind the current c19 is having an impact on training and job seekers.

      Hi there, I'd imagine finding work would be very tough at the moment - thankfully haulage will always be required for as long as people still want their food in their supermarkets and computers in their stores, which is good for us. I think you should stick with class 2 if you are new to the industry just to make sure you enjoy the work before investing further money. A recession is on the way, that's for sure, and with that we will likely see a drop in driver recruitment.

    tip shop around for training, there are too many brokerage firms that will tell you "we have contracts with tesco/sainsbury's etc" its all BS, they are middlemen that will take your money and drop you with the worst training companies around. £1500 is about right for training but if you shop around there are good firms that will do it for considerably less than that... Invest in The essential new truckers' handbook by Malcolm Green, as you will find all the training you get for the cpc doesn't help really in a practical way on the job.

    Hi just got a few questions. Anyone is more than welcome to send me their experiences as well. My question is how easy did you find getting work at 18 and do you know what company's will hire young drivers? I'm 19 years old and gained my class 2 licence at 18yrs old in October and passed my CPC just after turning 19. I'm struggling to find work and no one is willing to insure me due to my young age and this is starting to really wind me up. I've applied for 10 different jobs all over the county I live in some never even got back in touch. This one company I went to for a job interview never even told me how much it would be to insure after saying I got the job and never went any further. I later found out by a friend who after talking to them and they said it would cost them 12k to insure me!! If anyone has any suggestions or advice please like this comment and send over your thoughts.
    Stay safe all you truckers out there. Your work is not under appreciated.
    PS I can't even get work for a driving agency either due to there insurance policy not taking anyone under 21
