    The more I see of the Paradox, the more I really do like it.
    Having successfully lengthened your Paradox, do you have any thoughts on how much shorter than standard a Paradox could be constructed?
    Your launch speech was excellent, and despite the weather, the spirit of the launch and maiden voyage was great.
    The cabin looks to be a superb place to be in foul weather, and one Paradox crew no longer take wet weather clothing as they're always comfortably battened down in such conditions.
    The cabin looks surprisingly spacious and I love how you modified the rear of the cabin housing to allow deck seating in good weather, this is an inspired feature.
    Thank you for sharing your excellent videos.

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před 2 lety

      Hi Felix Cat,
      Thanks for the kind words!
      The designer of the Paradox, Matt Layden, has also built an Enigma 360, that is very similar boat but is just 3.6m or 11' 10'' long; and to go even further from here - a Paradoxian Andre-Francois has designed a Gorfnik which is just 8 feet long. It has very simple hull shape (PDRacer), but is also steerable from inside, and has just enough of space for sleeping inside. :)

  • @Kognito72
    @Kognito72 Před 4 lety

    Thanks for posting this. I have one question. Why didn't you design an outside seating option? Is it too cold where you live?

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, Kognito Loop. The original paradox is designed by Matt Layden, as coastal cruiser, to be safe all weather cruising. When the weather is good, you will sail the hatch open; but I have altered the design a bit, so the aft part of the cabin top is also removable, and in light winds I can sit on top of aft deck ;)

    6:50 “Now the steering got heavier.”
    That’s because the rudder blade was only half way down. Put a line to pull it right down or use ballast so that it sinks of it’s own accord.

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Q.E.D
      The rudder blade has ballast. It was half way down intentionally, because of the shallow waters. :)

      the steering would become heavier with the rudder half deployed. Given the length of the rudder in that position consider the lever arm that creates.

      @eerikmee2050  Před 6 lety +5

      Thanks, Saxe! I only got to go out 4 times in the first season, so I still need to fine tune the rig. But I am happy so far: the chinerunnes prevent leeway as promised, she is tacking with ease, the sail has a bit more twist that I would like but I have ideas on how to fix it. Can't make any conclusion on pointing yet, but the boat and the handling correspond to expectations, yes :)

  • @tortugabob
    @tortugabob Před 4 lety

  • @styx85
    @styx85 Před rokem

    Interesting. To my untrained eye it looks like the center of effort of the sail is too far back, behind the center of lateral resistance of the hull? But looking at other Paradoxes, they appear similar... I guess that's just suitably paradoxical 😅

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před rokem

      Paradox has a big rudder blade that that moves the lateral area a bit further back; and the chine runners are also affecting on drag while boat is heeled.

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Joseph
      Paradox doesn't have a dagger board. Instead she has chinerunners, these are 2 small horizontal "wings" sticking out from the sides. You can find plenty of information on internet about this.

    Прекрасная работа! А как обеспечивается водонепроницаемость люка? Как его закрываете на замок
    ? При какой силе волны ходили?

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před 2 lety +1

      Привет Андрей,
      Я коротко объясняю это в другом видео, Mostly boat tour this time, начало примерно в 12:30. Люк и рама люка сделаны под углом, и при закрытий люка зазор уменьшается и уплотнение сжимается.
      фотки о системе люка вы также можете найти в ссылке в конце paradoxbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_26.html
      Что касается замка, вы увидите, что в конце люка есть петля для замка. Я просто вешу туда замок, а он не дает открыться люку.
      Я был на море с волнами около 1 метра.

    Eerik, I am just starting my build and will probably go Junk Rig also. I believe the mast is forward of designed location. How did you determine what location to install mast?
    Thanks
    Erik (Ohio)

    • @eerikmee2050
      @eerikmee2050  Před rokem

      Hi George,
      As my mast is higher and accordingly is the part below deck; it didn't fit into the vent box above waterline, so had to do something. I moved it just fore of the bulkhead, so not much, 200mm or 8 inches the most. Another option would be to move the vent box slightly to the left and have the mast next to it (perhaps even just make it a bit narrower, leaving the mast spot outside of it), as close as possible to it's original location. That would also make the lines entering point through the deck to be on a better location. My lines enter just aft of the mast and they are interacting with the sail on SB tack. Not a big issue though.

    • @georgewashington7444
      @georgewashington7444 Před rokem

      Thank you for response! I have a while before I get to installing a mast so will do more research on best location (Sail balance/efficiency) as it applies to Paradox.

      Yes, this boat can be sailed in the sea. In fact, this season I did sail in the Baltic sea. Similar, but even smaller Paradoxes are sailing in the sea near Great Britain; and the original, also smaller Paradox, has made several trips from Florida to the Bahamas and back.

      @eerikmee2050  Před 3 lety

      I understand you well, Andre. You can shop the plans here: www.microcruising.com/plans1.htm
      Paradox is fine if you keep it on trailer and stay on anchor or beech her for the night. During my first season on the sea I stayed in the marinas in about half the nights, and due to her flat bottom it was a bit stressful to get in and out of the marinas with big waves and windy condition. I will modify the bow part of the bottom for the next season.
