    Beautiful workmanship on the little vessel, young man. Lessons to you when yours coming at you from Southern Oregon.

    My friend sent me this link not realizing you are in my old home town. This is all that is awesome about Homer! The boat is fantastic. And your attitude is even better - make it work, get it done with what’s on hand, and drink a beer with friends. Thanks for bringing a smile.

    I know this is an old video, but considering your tendency to do stuff drunk without a plan, I figure you probably still don't know this: You can get lead weights from a forklift repair shop. They're used to counterbalance forklifts, cranes, backhoes, and other heavy equipment like that. It's a lot cheaper than melting down bullets. Probably a lot safer than melting lead. Carry on, sailor. Oh, and another option is pouring cement with some steel pipes in it for ballast and keel. The Vikings just used heavy stones, so I guess that works too.

    • @cokeariail9398
      @cokeariail9398 Před 7 měsíci

      Go to an auto tire shop. They will probably give you a bucket full of old used lead weights used to balance tires.

    Really nice little trailer sailer, I particularly like the way you've constructed the mast, it's a real thing of beauty when looked at end on.
    Using lead in place of water ballast certainly saved a lot of cockpit space, though I have a suspicion that not steaming the parts as suggested will turn out to have been inadvisable.

    Nice SCAMP; I like that you went with lead rather than water ballast. Welsford packs a lot into a very small space. I have looked longingly at his Penguin design but I am not sure that I care for the glued lapstrake construction that he uses. I saw photos of an aluminum SCAMP that somebody built and I have been tempted to do the same thing with a Penguin.
    Grew up in Cordova but currently living in Anchorage (most inaccurate town name ever), so anything I come up with has to be trailerable. Built a small stitch and glue pram last year but wanting something bigger that I can take out overnight with the family. Thanks for posting the boat tour.

    You've seen those tugboats that have a great big "mop" (?) on their bow to cushion themselves when pushing ships around, Right? One of those would look kind of neat on the bow of the boat; like the boat has a big ol' "beard" on it, just like those tugs have; Whaddya think of that?

    good, in principle, but balance lug is very inefficient on one tack, so gaff or sprit rig deserves consideration.. or you might put some battens in the balance lug, as the chinese did.
    or just tilt the sail into a standing lug?.

    Why does the wood look wet under the floor hatch? Looks like it has not been protected properly. Or is it just the quality of the video, which makes it look like that? Nice job though.
