      I’m really very proud. The 15 minutes of the video do not show patience, resilience and the many hours of work. When you finish - which sometimes seems crazy - it’s a moment of great happiness; and sailing is fantastic. I recommend it, because these are hours of work that you gain in health forever…

    From over fifty years of sailing experience I have my doubts this boat would sail very well. That reverse rudder, the sweep of the lines up to the stern and centreboard system may create some serious balance problems especially in gusty conditions. Otherwise you have to admire the craftsmanship. Not all works of art are practical. But hey well done to the builder.

    • @RGBtoys
      @RGBtoys  Před 5 dny

      Thanks Nick 👍🏼
      When I decided to build the TITMOUSE, I did so because it was a beautiful boat and the challenge of the strip plank hull. As for the rudder, I was really suspicious because it was wide but shallow; I even thought about modifying it for a rudder with deeper action, but I saw that almost all models of that time - and of this size - have the rudder in this format (protected by the directional stern kell/skeg). However, the central kill works very well and the boat lulls efficiently; but because I sail in a lagoon I feel well protected when surprised by strong winds. The hull has a flat botton and is very stable in medium winds, but in strong gusts, with the boat heeling, it tends to leave me without rudder control…
      She is certainly not an open ocean boat.
      Your observation is very good.

  • @ross.venner

    A lovely little craft, but what about buoyancy tanks? How would she go if capsized?

    • @RGBtoys
      @RGBtoys  Před 16 dny +1

      Thanks Ross; good question 👍🏼
      In addition to the all-light wooden construction (with the exception of a few parts), and all waterproofed with epoxy resin, I use some expanded polyurethane floats underneath the removable decks, and an empty 30-liter plastic gallon in the bow. The hull is very stable in relation to the sail area, and for safety I also don’t use a teether on the mainsail - like Optimist, when the wind is strong. I’ve had some scares - it’s a fact of sailing - but I haven’t capsized the boat yet…

    Great Job, how do you close the Cabin when you leave your Boot?

    • @RGBtoys
      @RGBtoys  Před 24 dny

      Thanks Gunther 👍🏼
      The project does not have a cabin closure. It’s a daysailer boat I believe. But I think, if I’m going on a small cruise, I’ll close it with a canvas and zipper, just like camping tents. Another advantage of the project is that the top of the cabin is pivoting, with hinges at the front and a support to keep it higher - or fixed to the boom. I use a poita or anchor to leave the boat in the water, as it is always facing the wind and the cabin is protected from wind and rain. It’s a very versatile small sailboat, and creativity is part of the adventures.
      Good winds friend

    • @RGBtoys
      @RGBtoys  Před 2 dny +1

      I made it with 35mm x 20mm. This measure worked well because the bow has to bend and twist.

      In my region there are also eucalyptus trees; it can even be used for a canoe, but for a job like this I believe that a more nautical quality wood = cedar for example.
