    I appreciate seeing you review this, though I think the Rytm is a tough instrument for you to cover in your typical format, mostly because of how deep it is. I’ve spent years with the Rytm and only recently decided to dedicate myself to mastering the analog drum circuits. They are extremely capable of reproducing many analog sounds, particularly when skillfully combined with the filter, overdrive and LFO for modulation. Given where I’m currently at I feel like you kind of glossed over this machines analog drum capabilities, which is a shame, because I actually think that is where it really shines. Its dual VCA synth capabilities are one of my least favorite aspects, yet they always seem highly attractive to new users.

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper Před 3 lety +1

      Similar story here. I've had a Digitakt for years, but I find I almost never use most of its features. They're kind of neat to have, but typically aren't what I need. Most of what I want is to lay down a rhythm quickly, adjust the timbres to fit the song, and then record it and a few variations into my DAW.
      Elektron devices can certainly do those things, and a whole lot more... but I often get the feeling, while I'm scrolling through sounds or manually copying settings between patterns, that I could probably get the same things done faster and easier with a cheaper device. The extra features end up slowing me down.
      Like, I can't just sit down, create a new project, and start making beats. The workflow requires me to spend a bunch of time building a drum kit first, which is not what I want to be doing at the time. I can't just lay down some beats and then scroll through kits later to find one which fits. It doesn't even have a concept of kits. Then later, after making a bunch of patterns, if I want to adjust my kit... it has to be adjusted manually for each sound in each pattern.
      So I've been thinking about selling it and replacing it with a Drumbrute or something. I'd lose a bunch of features, but I mostly don't use those features anyway, and it would speed up my core workflow.

      @Sadows12 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ToyKeeperI'm a 100% with you there. Elektrons are much too deep for my workflow, and each time I try one (except maybe for the Model Samples & Cycles). I find myself disturbed and lost by all the possibilities.. It's counter benefic for me to play music on these, instead I scroll everywhere, try stuff, get lost, loose the creative vibe.. One of the best sketch pad in the recent offers is the Roland JDXi.. Well, I would like it to be a bit more in depth to be honest..If Roland could make an upgraded JDXi, I'd be interested

    Awesome jam, boss!!!
    The Rytm is my personal fav drum machine, I have an MK1 and I like the way Elektron update the firmware for both the MK1 and MK2. Elektron and maybe Novation, are very good at keeping their existing customers happy, it certainly garners brand loyalty. Having said that I'm not sure I would want to spend the extra at this point to get sampling (I use an OctaTrack for that, which I bought after my experience using the Rytm).
    I do feel that the black edition is possibly a swan song, and that something new and shiny is in the pipeline.

    Amazing machine. So nearly perfect. Stereo sampling should have been a no brainer and the Ext Input should have been implemented Pre-FX and in the same way as it is in the A4. The Ext Input on the Machinedrum is even better. It has its own set of machines with a bunch of awesome stuff like gating, filtering and an envelope follower which can be resampled directly into the machine. The "utility" machines found in the earlier elektrons do not appear in any of the later machines. Quite unbelievable really

    So this is more than twice the price of an MPC One, has super limited RAM, very slow loading, a crap screen, mono sampling (??). Just looking at the device, disregarding everything I just said, I can see some appeal, pads probably nice, lots of buttons. But the One does all this and quite a lot more, has a drum synth and a regular synth ánd a bass synth etc. 2 GB RAM. It can load high quality fully sampled drum kits, grand piano's, etc. I really have a hard time understanding the consideration that leads to the purchase of the device specifically. Enlighten me though.

    It’s nice to have a channel doing such a good content.
    I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak.
    I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds.
    When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap.
    I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power.
    In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with.
    What would be your suggestion?
    Thank you!

    Bought a new Rytm MK2 this week after spending time using a friend's and my favorite drum synth so far and easy to get great tracks built. I love modular drums but the workflow is hard to beat and drum pads nice touch. Good holiday sale helped me choose over Perkons that costs more and does less. Agree the sampler is ok but I have a Roland SP 404 MK2 and Elektron Octatrack for those tasks. I would sample modular drums into the Rytm and save need to haul cases of gear to a gig. This Rytm and an SP 404 can do shows with ease.

    • @avetisk
      @avetisk Před 3 lety +1

      I bought the MC 707 and used the TR8S a lot.
      My 2 cents: the TR8S is nice for live, but that’s all.
      And the MC707 while having a lot of good features and may have been an amazing flag ship, is in the end a failure (compared to AR4) : filters are sooo terrible, sound muddy as if you were mixing in a swamp; the 4 timbral synth (zen core engine) looked promising but ended up being a real pain to configure and the samples are totally outdated; the sampling is broken (eg: you can only load from your own project), etc.
      Most issues can be fixed with a firmware update, but sincerely, just considering the issue with the filters is enough to go for a machine with analog filters.
      Well, that’s my opinion 🙏

    • @jona_KardCiv1
      @jona_KardCiv1 Před 3 lety
