  • We are working on Campagnolo Super Record bottom bracket (BB) set on our 1988 Favorit F1 Super Special, the best racing bike from the communistic Czechoslovakia. The bike frame is made from Reynolds 531 tubes. You can use this video as a tutorial on how to disassemble and exchange grease in the BB set. All steps, along with the Campagnolo tools, are shown (only some moments are sped up).

I rode top of the line Campy and Shimano cranksets with tapered bottoms for years (Road and MTB) but did myself a big favor and switched out their tapered bottoms brackets and replaced them with Phil Wood sealed cartridge bottoms and cups. These these things last for ever and pretty much never have to be maintained or adjusted even through rain and mud. I have some that are decades old and spin better than when they were new. Another reason to get them is that they have over sized tapers which allows crank arms that have bottomed out on traditional tapers to be reused again (this happens quite often if the crank arms have been removed and installed numerous times). They are set and forget items and if they ever go bad they can be re-serviced by the factory for minimal cost. They come in a multitude of axle widths, taper styles, and threading and are highly recommended even if a bit pricey (saves much effort, time, and dollars in the long run).

Your videos proved very helpful to my own maintenance on my 70s race bike; Thank you!

Yours is about the only channel, that uses a computer generated voice-, that I don't turn off instantly! Because your content is pornographic to a vintage Campophile like me!

Beautiful bike and components. Nice video, easy to follow, very clear. Great to have an instructional video without all the chitchat for once! :) Thanks for posting!

Great video! Today I did the same job on my dad's campagnolo bike, but it has a clear rubber tube and a plastic cone wich I took out to wash all properly. Now, the pedals axle and bearing were a test of faith to re assemble... I learned the hard way after multiple cursing moments to Campagnolo 70's designers 🤣. Do you have a video of that part?

Hello. Thank you for the video! I'm wondering: If you remove the small chainring from the Campagnolo system and leave only the large one, will the clamp bolts be able to clamp one large chainring without the small one?

I only use original Gipiemme grease on my vintage Campy bearings. How is that Motorex stuff as a substitute? It looks the right colour and consistency. Even Gipiemme grease is getting hard to find- forget about Campagnolo, for any sensible price!

I rode the old Campy stuff. I always adjusted the fixed cup with the frame off of the stand to get more leverage. I also recall using a plastic sleeve that protected the axel and bearings from crude and flakes that may be knocked loose from inside the frame. Some frames often had bottom bracket cutouts that may let water in. I believe at some point the Campy axel had threads that repelled dirt when peddling forward. And of course just the opposite when you back-peddled.
