Since many people still don't get it it's best to put the Snakes perspective here:
He gets created by Loki in Jötunheim and grows in that realm.
During Ragnarok he fights Thor, their battle shakes the world tree and sends the Snake to Midgard to a time where he didn't exist yet.
He stays in Midgard for the rest of time.
During the Events of Ragnarok he's still in Midgard and therefore doesn't encounter his younger self since the younger one was only ever in Jötunheim and Asgard.
But once the younger snake gets sent back he is gonna get sent back to a timeline that a world serpent already exist in Midgard…

I'm curious if anyone caught this feature in God of war, Ragnorak. Atreus' eyes change and glow a different color whenever he performs a certain move or technique. His eyes glow green when he sees the mask, when he calls the giant snake, his eyes is silver & when he transforms, yellow.

LET ME CLARIFY! Writing these things out can be easier. Jormungandr was a giant who lived during the time of Thor's termination of the Giants. He put his soul into a marble with the other giants. Atreus puts his soul into a big snake. Jormungandr grows inside the big snake and becomes THE WORLD SERPENT! He fights Thor at Ragnarok and get's sent BACK IN TIME and dropped into MIDGARD hundreds of years BEFORE God of War 2018 or Ragnarok.
It's the same timeline, the same universe. The World Serpent FIGHTS THOR in Midgard in the Lake and it goes into a stalemate (yet again this is hundreds of years before the fight at Ragnarok) The World Serpent grows and begins to forget himself - GOD OF WAR 2018 happens - The World Serpent remembers Atreus as his "dad" and realizes he has to make sure that Atreus gets to Jotenheim to put that soul marble into that snake to make HIM!
GOD of War Ragnarok happens - The World Serpent tells Atreus about Jotenheim. The World Serpent STAYS IN MIDGARD AND DOES NOT FIGHT AT RAGNAROK BECAUSE his past self is already there! So he knows that if he goes it will create a paradox. Thor hits the World Serpent into the past, Odin kills thor. The World Serpent that didn't go to Ragnarok that is sitting in Midgard is still in Midgard chilling and happy that Thor is Dead. After Thor dies there is only 1 World Serpent on the timeline and there aren't anymore being created.
So it's NOT an infinite timeloop as the current World Serpent will just keep moving forward in time and never go back again. It's one instance where someone goes back in time once and tries not get himself erased out of existence. ARE WE ALL FOLLOWING?

Really…..all the questions they raised in previous game are not answered and seems like we are not getting them in this game…..plus things like time travel….blade of olympus…..mjolnir…..nothing seems like happening…..also facts like which should happen in RAGNARÖK seems to be not going to happen for example measurements of mimir by dwarves….that yes…but what for?!?! Anyone would’ve seen it coming that tyr is not tyr but is odin…..I KNEW…..I mean just in first night you showed us tyr was with us in sindri’s house in the first night of the game….poor story writing…..plus fenrir in just one of the first dialogues was shocking and great too but….there are no explanations…..where is it?! Everything seems stupid….what were they thinking? I or any die hard fans would’ve wrote far better story than this…..why the big sequels goes like this…..and yes they did let us down…..thay said norse will be wrapped up so why the crap you would let the answer to that who blew the horn kept away from this game?! And kept it for god knows which future game and when that future game will be available?! Also remember this I hated playing as Loki or Atreus….it was bullshit…..There were more gameplay of that little shit and was disturbing to the kratos’s gameplay like whenever we would feel like we are warmed up with blades of chaos the game led us to stupid bow and arrow…..also where is JORMUNGANDR in the whole game….(I’m currently in the faye’s dream right before war, so of course he’ll be there at RAGNARÖK)…..I’m just too upset and disappointed with the story…..game overall…music and everything is great….it feels good as a PS5 play through in my PS4 slim and looks awesome….feels smooth great reflections….great shadows….great vibrant environment…..but story is not feeling anywhere near to compelling story telling…..KRATOS is like getting a beat up by everyone who shows up….he’s broke….he was crying at some point…..He feels weak to me……and the most disgusting part when there were enemies I had to kill….I just always had this feeling of fear thanks to the crappy balanced difficulty….what balanced I died a lot…..and whoever said in the reviews that the gameplay feels like you are god of war is the worst person to review this game…..the difficulty on balanced does not let the player feel anywhere near to god of war rather It gives me fear watching enemies ahead and I’m always mashing the L1 and X….AND MORE L1s and more Xs……who told you to have such difficulties…..why the only 4 difficulties were not working great for you……Why give an additional stupid show me no mercy difficulty mode…..I hate the person who took that decision to add that extra difficulty and messing so miserably to the balanced difficulty……..I thought you cared about us….us the players….you said you are fan of us the players……but who disappoints to the community of god of war like this….in game worth of RAGNARÖK itself…..every review they gave which was mostly 10/10 and 94 metacritic ot whatever that score is feeling like the most stupid score ever…..so stupid…..and yes ESRB said correctly back then about the FUCKS you used in this game so stupidly…….the whole game felt like just building the alliances and story and elements like giant marbles and the thing from which we can call surtr and the thing from which we can call skoll and hati….all this were just feeling like we are doing nothing in the story but building the story just for RAGNARÖK war….just for the end. Telling you no matter they’ll win tomorrow the game of the freakin year award yet undoubtedly wasted the title of RAGNARÖK where every great thing I mentioned earlier was supposed to happen…..Hell even our fight with baldur after JOTUNHIEM gate was destroyed by mistake that whole segment till we get in Hel was even better than the whole RAGNARÖK game….Intensifying and all was much more at higher grounds than our first fight with thor…..think about it baldur took your kid….we jump off a damn mountain…..we fighting him on his dragon…..kid is out…..we fell from the dragon all crazy way possible……we ran through the travel room…..brok interaction…..baldur already locked on asgard and the possibility of us seeing the full might of aesir…..kratos does what he does saying SO BE IT…..all three in the air of Hel and both fighting…..That’s how the great segments were supposed to be written in RAGNARÖK man….when I was enjoying all this moments in 2018 game I thought the SMS is just getting started baby and will see so much more in rag but I was wrong tbh they failed US…..of course exception being our first face to face interaction with aesir king of the gods the performance of Ryan Hurst and the one and only Richard Schiff was up to the mark….even they twos raised the bar…..But story of 2018 was far more compelling than what happened in RAGNARÖK.

My question is - what happens to younger Jormie then? Also note that Thor never t4wveled thru time and when they will clash in Midgard it would be a battle of past Thor and young Jormie.
So long story short no matter what you do involving time travel you create an infinite loop.
When Time Travel is being involved, it always end up with either a paradox or an endless cycle of the same events (meaning no one actually change anything necessarily)
It’s actually a simple timeline and simple explanation, I guess we fans and our theories made it seem more over the top. To bad they didn’t really hint at Slipnir and Hella. Overall we needed more from this game, wish it was a trilogy.

slipnir seems to already exsist. (quote from the GOW 2018 wiki) "Though Sleipnir doesn't appears, it's pictured in Hrungnir Shrine and with its picture with Odin riding on it. The Sleipnir is also shown on Gróa's Shrine and on Starkaðr's Shrine. The Sleipnir is mentioned and shown on various Jötnar Shrines including the one where Odin killed Ymir"
Post game if you go to Helhiem The Eagle is the current Hel/the one in charge of the realm. She also wants to retire. It stated that Hel is more so just the job title rather than a name.

And they do hint at Hel. Mimir has post game dialog where he said the eagle protecting Helheim (I forget how to spell the name) wants to retire and he bargained for who should replace her but he doesn’t mention who.

The language that jörmungandr speaks is probably just some ancient language since later in the game mimir talks to the eagle of hel in the same language. He refers to it as the ancient tongue, maybe jörmungandr was a really old giant. Maybe that explains why he speaks it.
Best way to think about it; imagine the God of War logo on its side. From the bottom going up, imagine Jormangandurs timeline. It starts, it loops back around, reconnects, then keeps going. He was born, sent back to before he was born, then lived a long life before he was ever created
In god war ragnarok you can hear the serpent actually speak clear English. He says you'll be there
Jörmungandr had to be present when it was revealed that Faye argued with the giants at the end of 2018. The giants had all decided that they were gonna place their souls in the marbles, but what if Faye found that unacceptable (which is why she had a marble.)
After doing some end-of-story Favors, Jormungandr’s head returned on the same mountain in the background in Midgard as if he decided to come back and sleep there for some reason. His head was gone before doing the end-of-story Favors but he is back for me.
Seeing the world serpent in Ragnarok waking up got me some Godzilla vibes and I love it
It was pretty awesome, just it was when we see him for the first time in 2018's God of War.
This game is part entertainment part historical study. I love it. I don’t know which pantheon s next, or if they will make another one since Kratos has had a good arc.

there is still one question: Since we have TWO world serpents, doesn't that mean there's a time paradox? Sometimes I hate bad time-traveling just as much as multi-verses.
Edit: Sorry if this thread is getting out of control. Time traveling is not my best subject. All day I was thinking of how to fix this without any kind of paradox and I came up to the conclusion that the writers were probably backed into a corner and just had to fix it the best they can.
I'll say that having two world serpents is a time paradox. But I think that the serpent from GOW2018 didn't went to Ragnarok because it'll cause ANOTHER time paradox which might cause some catastrophic results.

There is the Bootstrap Paradox. I believe this is what you have question about but sadly, it will never be explained.
The Bootstrap Paradox is simple. The Serpent was sent back in time, lets Atreus knows to go to Ironwood. Serpent gets awakened, sent back in time and grows. However, who was the one that let Atreus knows to go to Ironwood, if there wasn't a Serpent that was already sent back in time? How can this be, if at one point, there wasn't a Serpent that was already sent back in time to let Atreus knows and there's no answer to this.
My disappointment was that epic fight took place in the background.

Folks say Baldr, but I believe Corey also nixed that idea, and its never explained during GOW Ragnarok.

So in reality, in 2018 jormy helps us get to jotunheim (setting up gow ragnarok) in ragnarok he sends atreus to ironwood indirectly setting up his own birth. The baby snake then grows into a giant and battles thor, gets hit so hard, He gets sent back in time and then waits for centuries until he meets kratos and a young atreus. He then helps them on their journey thus creating an infinite loop

I'm confused, Jormungandr is a giant that got his soul put into a snake by Loki (Atreus) but that means for the loop to exist, and for him to exist as a snake, that would need to happen first right?
But that's in GoW 2022 so how does he exist in GoW 2018 because for him to get sent back in time he'd still need to be made into a snake first?

Did Atreus know the ball he picked was Jormie? Coz it looks like he just randomly picked one.
The reason why the current serpent did not join the fight in Ragnarok is, because it is winter! cold blooded snake cant move freely if there is no heat.
Jormie was in Jotenheim, how did he get to midgard to fight Thor in the first place
so in norse lore after ragnorak happened the world is suppse to die and only 2 people live to recreate....BUT there is one thing thats intresting after ragnorak baldur is suppose to come back to life
That’s honestly a part of the prophecy that could have encouraged Freya to ally with Kratos so much earlier. If she somehow learned that she could bring Baldr back but Ragnarok needed to happen for him to return.
Then again, if we go by Norse myth then a couple of notable Aesir should have survived this game. Magni and Modi survived Ragnarok in mythology and inherited Mjolnir, that’s a role they gave to Thrud in the game. But perhaps the most interesting for a next installment in the Norse setting would be Vidal, Odin’s son who is supposed to avenge the death of Baldr and the death of Odin. That’s a character that in this narrative should have hunted down Kratos, but his role was instead partly given to Freya.

I still dont understand, IF THOR sent Young Jormungandr back in time, does that mean there are two Jormunganders in Midgard now? Maybe the point is that the Jormi that got sent back in time, is in a DIFFERENT time then current Jormi, so they will never interact?

Jormungandr technically created paradox, he told Atreus to go to Ironwood where he was created by him and Angrboda.
That's not a paradox. He was assuring his own existence, because if Atreus had not gone to Ironwood, then he would not become the world serpent. That's him AVOIDING a paradox
I think he means that Jormangandr telling Atreus to go to Iron wood is what creates the paradox because he sews the seeds that eventually cause his own existence

If the Serpent fighting on the Battle of Ragnarok IS NOT the old Serpent we know (Present-Day Serpent: AKA the one in GOW4), does this mean the one fighting Thor was the baby Serpent that we give life to in-game? So if that's the case, did it grow that much in that little time?? (meaning, the events between Playing as Atreus in IRONWOOD up to the game's ending)
Cause if neither is the case, it would mean there's more then 2 Snakes in the same time-space, which is way more confusing. Can someone explain/confirm this to me?

That didn't hit me until I read it. Hate me for this later but wouldn't this paradox be fixed if there's a dialogue that says the 'old' snake is dead before or after the great battle? that wat the paradox fixes itself. I think that's is what we're missing.

It's easier to look at from the snakes perspective. So his soul gets infused into the snake in Jötunheim where he keeps growing. During Ragnarok he goes to Asgard and fights Thor, during the battle he's sent back in time where he stays in Midgard for the rest of time. So he never encounters himself

The question is, why haven’t the world serpent attacked Thor as he was battling Kartons at the Lake of the Nine? Killing Thor was the thing he wanted or?
I’m assuming it was because he was asleep but even then he probably knew if he jumped in then it can cause a paradox or suffer severe time consequences I.e Loki and Ago don’t create the version of him that gets sent back in time

Because on the prophetic stone mural that they find in Jotunheim at the end of GOW 2018 it shows Kratos laying dead in his son's arms with a big snake bursting forth from his dead body. I don't quite understand why they depicted the events the way they did on that mural because it didn't line up with what actually happened in GOW Ragnarok. The ONLY thing that happened that mirrors the images shown on the mural was when Odin had his soul taken from his body by Atreus after the final confrontation and Odin ends up in the exact same position as what we thought to be Kratos on the mural.

God of War 2018 seemed so much more planned out and detailed. Ragnarok seemed rushed gameplay and narrative wise. Still a good game but 2018 is somehow more fulfilling than Ragnarok.

Watching this it dawned on me that was this Ragnarok and the Destruction of Asgard. Did it even have a point of happening?? Lol They wanted Ragnarok to happen to be the end of Odin. But in the end Atreus was the one who killed him..If Atreus would have just killed him somewhere else we would still have Freyr, Surtur, the good people of Asgard and the Valkaries could still have a home... lmao was it all even necessary?

I had such an amazing experience with Ragnarok.
It was the first time in many years where i actually had lots of fun.
Just wish we got more.
Im sad that they didn't make it a trilogy... It would have been awesome if Ragnarok was split into two games.
With the first one going into deeper detail about thor and also Baldurs past... and then the 3rd game would be actually facing Odin.
Thor and Odin appeard TOO FAST in ragnarok.
Some parts felt rushed.
Especially the ending.
I wish there was more leading up to finally meeting Odin.
Meeting Thor AND Odin at the very beginning of the game kinda ruined all the suspense and MYSTERY behind odin.
It just felt like it could have been so much more.
But regardless, Ragnarok was a great game and is my personal game of the year.

Really…..all the questions they raised in previous game are not answered and seems like we are not getting them in this game…..plus things like time travel….blade of olympus…..mjolnir…..nothing seems like happening…..also facts like which should happen in RAGNARÖK seems to be not going to happen for example measurements of mimir by dwarves….that yes…but what for?!?! Anyone would’ve seen it coming that tyr is not tyr but is odin…..I KNEW…..I mean just in first night you showed us tyr was with us in sindri’s house in the first night of the game….poor story writing…..plus fenrir in just one of the first dialogues was shocking and great too but….there are no explanations…..where is it?! Everything seems stupid….what were they thinking? I or any die hard fans would’ve wrote far better story than this…..why the big sequels goes like this…..and yes they did let us down…..thay said norse will be wrapped up so why the crap you would let the answer to that who blew the horn kept away from this game?! And kept it for god knows which future game and when that future game will be available?! Also remember this I hated playing as Loki or Atreus….it was bullshit…..There were more gameplay of that little shit and was disturbing to the kratos’s gameplay like whenever we would feel like we are warmed up with blades of chaos the game led us to stupid bow and arrow…..also where is JORMUNGANDR in the whole game….(I’m currently in the faye’s dream right before war, so of course he’ll be there at RAGNARÖK)…..I’m just too upset and disappointed with the story…..game overall…music and everything is great….it feels good as a PS5 play through in my PS4 slim and looks awesome….feels smooth great reflections….great shadows….great vibrant environment…..but story is not feeling anywhere near to compelling story telling…..KRATOS is like getting a beat up by everyone who shows up….he’s broke….he was crying at some point…..He feels weak to me……and the most disgusting part when there were enemies I had to kill….I just always had this feeling of fear thanks to the crappy balanced difficulty….what balanced I died a lot…..and whoever said in the reviews that the gameplay feels like you are god of war is the worst person to review this game…..the difficulty on balanced does not let the player feel anywhere near to god of war rather It gives me fear watching enemies ahead and I’m always mashing the L1 and X….AND MORE L1s and more Xs……who told you to have such difficulties…..why the only 4 difficulties were not working great for you……Why give an additional stupid show me no mercy difficulty mode…..I hate the person who took that decision to add that extra difficulty and messing so miserably to the balanced difficulty……..I thought you cared about us….us the players….you said you are fan of us the players……but who disappoints to the community of god of war like this….in game worth of RAGNARÖK itself…..every review they gave which was mostly 10/10 and 94 metacritic ot whatever that score is feeling like the most stupid score ever…..so stupid…..and yes ESRB said correctly back then about the FUCKS you used in this game so stupidly…….the whole game felt like just building the alliances and story and elements like giant marbles and the thing from which we can call surtr and the thing from which we can call skoll and hati….all this were just feeling like we are doing nothing in the story but building the story just for RAGNARÖK war….just for the end. Telling you no matter they’ll win tomorrow the game of the freakin year award yet undoubtedly wasted the title of RAGNARÖK where every great thing I mentioned earlier was supposed to happen…..Hell even our fight with baldur after JOTUNHIEM gate was destroyed by mistake that whole segment till we get in Hel was even better than the whole RAGNARÖK game….Intensifying and all was much more at higher grounds than our first fight with thor…..think about it baldur took your kid….we jump off a damn mountain…..we fighting him on his dragon…..kid is out…..we fell from the dragon all crazy way possible……we ran through the travel room…..brok interaction…..baldur already locked on asgard and the possibility of us seeing the full might of aesir…..kratos does what he does saying SO BE IT…..all three in the air of Hel and both fighting…..That’s how the great segments were supposed to be written in RAGNARÖK man….when I was enjoying all this moments in 2018 game I thought the SMS is just getting started baby and will see so much more in rag but I was wrong tbh they failed US…..of course exception being our first face to face interaction with aesir king of the gods the performance of Ryan Hurst and the one and only Richard Schiff was up to the mark….even they twos raised the bar…..But story of 2018 was far more compelling than what happened in RAGNARÖK.

I get that you are salty because you don't believe that GOW Ragnarok lived up to the hype and popularity of the first game, but your rant was far too long for me to attempt to fully absorb and process. I know this sounds like I'm saying TLDR but in reality I glossed over it enough to get the gist, so I didn't ignore it entirely. I will say however that I don't agree with your opinion on the game because I thought it was fantastic. Sure the story elements and plot could've been better, and the events in the game most likely didn't quite align with the actual historic Norse mythological stories/events/characters, but it's entertainment. Fiction much like the way the Assassin's Creed games were made. Some actual historic events/figures being involved in the story but not being written to be 100% historically accurate.
You just have to accept the game for what it is and not get worked up or upset because it didn't live up to your uber high expectations. What I don't like is the fact that GOW Ragnarok didn't get a SINGLE nomination for ANY of the categories for GOTY 2022. The game was phenomenal and deserves MUCH better recognition than what it got. The reviews alone are evidence of that fact.

Now…..Thanks for believing that RAGNARÖK did not lived upto the hype and popularity….of course the words became essay as I’m one of those die hard and hardcore fans of this franchise….I’m a fan since I was a freakin 4-5 year old baby man…..You know you scold more those you love the most…..Of course everyone is talking that story elements and plot could’ve been faaaar better…tbh it’s absolutely fine if the story don’t align with the traditional norse mythology….there’s no point in repeating traditional one…..but missing one of the most important plot….let me remind you….remember the statue of thor and his different sized mjolnir and the real mjolnir he got….both the mjolnir are different in look….Back in 2018 I thought the game just teased that while making his hammer something loki must’ve done like in the traditional mythology loki became a bee and stung brok and the handle was made too short than the dwarves planned….so that’s what happened in traditional mythology…..my point is If you as a creator were never going to address this great little incident in RAGNARÖK then why in the world would you make the mjolnir in the statue and the real mjolnir thor finally got look different in the game?!?! I wish I could discuss all this with Mat Sophos….Cory Barlog and of course Eric Williams.

Same here for the Game awards brother……exactly it deserved much more crazy hard work and little more smart work in story line…..but as they say it is what it is…..Honestly I don’t believe in reviews anymore man I don’t think they’re legit…..there’s no way ALL of them gave this game a 10/10…it was like “yay yay yay RAGNARÖK is here it’s gonna be 10/10 and then reviewers played it and went oh no we are supposed to give it 10/10 so be it.” Then the SMS AND SIE must be like - “THANKS”…..they think we are stupid don’t they? You’ll understand if you’re smart…..they just say casually that they are fans of fans. Us. But truly they’re just fans of 100 dollar bills…..In this game the cost they incurred was far too less than they incurred for GOW 2018 and the profit they made in 2018 was legit as the ratio of hard work and payoffs were genuine but in RAGNARÖK oh boy! They made huge turnover by not incurring much of expenses as an investment as the assets utilisation in percentage from GOW 2018 in this game was more than half at least……the only complain here is for the STORY…..it all make sense then.
