    Brings back fond memories Phil of my childhood in Disley in the 1960s. I recall jumping over the canal at the narrow point just before the swing bridge and having sweets thrown to us from an open window at Swizzels.

    Okay, serious now... this was a very beautiful stretch of canal, thanks for taking us along again! And I think you must be the friendliest boater on the canal. I never seem to see other boaters smile or even wave...

    I used to go out with a lass in New Mills, and it was my introduction to narrowboating. That was where I devised the plan of getting a boat and living aboard. That was ten years ago, I’ve lived aboard for about eight years now. Unfortunately I work so am sat in a marina and don’t get out enough at all, and besides there is a bit of work that needs doing that I’ve put off for ages now! Hopefully I’ll get back to it at some point.

      Turn and run!
      Nothing can stop them,
      Around every river and canal their power is growing.
      Stamp them out!
      We must destroy them,
      They infiltrate each city with their thick dark warning odour.

    Hi Phil ,now sure is some stunning scenery on this canal,swing bridges always seem to have the landing on the wrong side someone said it’s to do with year back when horses used to pull the barge and not motor,do you know if this is correct? Thanks for the ride Phil most enjoyable see you soon take care keep safe,John 🥃🥃🥃👌👌😹😹😹😹

    • @NarrowboatJourneys
      @NarrowboatJourneys  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, provided there was another crew member to raise the bridge, a horse could pull the boat through without unhitching the rope.

    Great video. What a bother those swing bridges are for a solo boater. Why don't they make them swing from the tow path side lol?

    • @NarrowboatJourneys
      @NarrowboatJourneys  Před 3 lety +1

      Because in the old days the lifting mechanism had to be on the other side so that it wouldn't get in the way of the horses on the towpath. Not such a problem these days though.
