Brings back fond memories Phil of my childhood in Disley in the 1960s. I recall jumping over the canal at the narrow point just before the swing bridge and having sweets thrown to us from an open window at Swizzels.
They didn't throw sweets at me! :-)
I really like this trip. Will be coming back to this lovely video again soon. It’s a shame I can’t light up the ‘like’ icon every time I watch it!
Thank you. Beautiful scenery (that I remember from days long gone). Very restful to watch with no distracting and irrelevant musical sound track!
Lovely scenery and very tranquil 👍😊
Another great vlog....stunning scenery and views...cheers Phil.
Thank you, more to come...
What an idyllic area.. Disley looks amazing..certainly a English town worth a visit!.. Lovely canal too!.. Thank you Phil...😊
Thank you. The whole area is very interesting.
Very enjoyable cruise on a quiet Sunday afternoon thankyou and take care you and the cats
Thanks phil.
My pleasure.
Thank you...what an enjoyable trip!
Thank you Beth.
FIRST ....Yaaaaayy...!!! T he first time in my life hey...!!! ........ ahem ...... sorry folks..... I'll see myself out......
Okay, serious now... this was a very beautiful stretch of canal, thanks for taking us along again! And I think you must be the friendliest boater on the canal. I never seem to see other boaters smile or even wave...
I used to go out with a lass in New Mills, and it was my introduction to narrowboating. That was where I devised the plan of getting a boat and living aboard. That was ten years ago, I’ve lived aboard for about eight years now. Unfortunately I work so am sat in a marina and don’t get out enough at all, and besides there is a bit of work that needs doing that I’ve put off for ages now! Hopefully I’ll get back to it at some point.
There's always a bit of work to do on boats! ;-)
Thank you. So relaxing.
You're welcome 😊
Thanks so much. God Bless
You are so welcome. Thank you.
Very nice enjoyed the trip a lot all the best
Im enjoying watching this canal series from your playlists, it,s definitely a beautiful canal, well they are rarely ugly 😊 (although a few in the center of Birmingham still look very industrial).
Thanks Tom, there are literally hundreds of cruising videos to get through...
Hello there, enjoyable veiwing n Very interesting good camera work
Very nice scenery,
Thank you for sharing your video cheers take care see you soon
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Thanks Phil, a very nice journey with the autumn colours.
Many thanks. The leaves in the water were starting to foul my prop!
Just found my way to your Narrowboat Chanel. Nice to find musician on the camels. Much better music than the CZcams music others use..this will give me more Canal trips to watch while you are all back in lock down..
Welcome aboard! There are hundreds of previous videos to watch. 😀
@@NarrowboatJourneys sounds good to me. A foot and a half of snow already this winter. Nice to escape to some green and unfrozen water for awhile even if I do enjoy the snow.
Good morning from Texas Gray sent me over glad he did
Welcome aboard!
Very relaxing for us, but clearly hard work at times for the solo boater. Great stuff, as always.
Great vlog Phil
Good to see and hear you again
What a lovely canal it is
Keep safe and dry and virus free
Thank you kindly, you too.

Turn and run!
Nothing can stop them,
Around every river and canal their power is growing.
Stamp them out!
We must destroy them,
They infiltrate each city with their thick dark warning odour.
I see Bushka was proceeding with caution there, sensible cat.👍🏻🐱😊
There are always dogs off the lead, and that's a very busy towpath.
Soooo beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great trip made more interesting with good editing and good use of camera shots.
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed the video Phil, know that area well, friends live in New Mills, A place worth visiting when next in New Mills is Dave's fish and chip shop, on the main street near to the roundabout. You won't be disappointed, stay safe.
Sounds great!
Seems like there are rarely decent landings both before and after those swing/lift bridges on the best side. Pretty greenery 💚🌳🌳
No, canals were not designed for solo boaters. They can be hard work.
Thank you Phil, as always a delight to watch your cruises. Take care
Thanks, you too!
Where's Midge?? Lovely and peaceful video. I appreciate how you show what's involved with a single-hander going through swing bridges.
Thank you. My camera battery died just before Midge came out.
very nice vlog
Great video and commentary. Looking forward to seeing how the refurbished go pro performs.
You and me both! I've not tried a cruise with it yet but the file sizes are much larger than the dash cam so it should retain more detail in skies and shady areas...
Lovely trip. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Another lovely journey calm and peaceful l do enjoy your jou journeys THANK YOU 😺😺
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video phil first one I seen from you
Thank you. Welcome aboard!
Another good one, thanks Phil.
Love watching keep safe,
Hello Phil, Sorry I was late watching your video. I was about 5 days behind on couple of CZcams videos! I googled the candy factory and poisonous bush and even causes blindness. Enjoy your weekend to you and your cats 🐱 🐱👨.
Thanks Ray. Giant Hogweed is a very impressive plant. Quite safe if left alone.
@@NarrowboatJourneys I can't believe I fall behind watching CZcams videos, Tiktok and also Instagram videos! I don't do videos. I'll send picture or my 2 cats on FB. Enjoy the weekend my friend!
Good video
Thanks
Would love to own one of those houses and have a tea house for y’all
Thank you, I was wondering how you did that bridge solo !
You looked quite agile slithering between the guard rails on the swing bridge. Keeps you fit I imagine.
My rope wasn't long enough. I could have tied it to the bridge and walked around but...
Hi Phil ,now sure is some stunning scenery on this canal, swing bridges always seem to have the landing on the wrong side someone said it’s to do with year back when horses used to pull the barge and not motor,do you know if this is correct? Thanks for the ride Phil most enjoyable see you soon take care keep safe,John 🥃🥃🥃👌👌😹😹😹😹
Yes, provided there was another crew member to raise the bridge, a horse could pull the boat through without unhitching the rope.
Your clogs are so informative and relaxing. We love your music. Where do you record it?
Thank you. All my music is recorded here on the boat.
@@NarrowboatJourneys wow, I've seen your guitar, which other instruments do you play? Brilliant music for meditation.
I've also got a cheapo electric guitar (which I rarely touch), and a Yamaha QY100 synthesiser/sequencer.
@@NarrowboatJourneys Well you certainly mix it together very well. It sounds great, very relaxing. Perfect for cruising on the vlog with you, and for meditation.
Were those giant hog weed plants in the first part of your video? Curious: how many different narrowboats have you had over the 30 years on the canal? Missed the music. Travel safe!
Thank you. I've had just the one boat...
Great video. What a bother those swing bridges are for a solo boater. Why don't they make them swing from the tow path side lol?
Because in the old days the lifting mechanism had to be on the other side so that it wouldn't get in the way of the horses on the towpath. Not such a problem these days though.
@@NarrowboatJourneys Oh haha, that makes sense, thanks for replying and have a great day :-)
Very enjoyable thanks phil
Is that the original engine in your boat?
Yes, it is.
Has it ever been rebuilt ?
Do people move on the canals at night? Do the swing bridges and locks have warning lights at night?
Yes but not many. None that I know of.
Do you have a job while cruising the canal? I’m wondering how you fund your travels.
I make CZcams videos. There's a lot of work involved.
Shame that you did not get a golden ticket from the sweet factory.
With the exception of chocolate, I don't really eat sweets any more.
