I can understand why a lot of Priest fans would hate this song and think they sold out, but I don’t think that way. I love it This album and the next are considered their dark age, but they have a great song from it called “Blood Red Skies” which I think you guys will like. Other than that, my recommendation would be “Dreamer Deceiver” from their Sad Wings of Destiny album. Cheers guys!
Nice reaction, Priest have 18 albums and they are all different. They used guitar synths on turbo, some priest fans love it others hate it. I think you guys need to do some Freewheel Burning.I saw this tour and it was such a great show!
If you play watch dogs 2 there’s a mission where you have to drive around the games version of the knight rider car remotely and this song is playing the whole time…it’s just awesome
I loved this song the first time I heard it, THIS was actually the first Judas Priest song I'd ever heard, and was my gateway into the glory of PRIEST!
I bought a 86 Mustang SVO and it had a turbo that whistled as drove and the whistling got louder the faster you went. I remember driving alot, playing this song, back in the day. Wow, good times, miss that car also
Priest is one of my favorite bands. A lot of fans didn't like this song but I did. When my son was little he'd say, "Mama, play the Terrible Lover song!" Haha, to this day I hear, "I'm your terrible lover, tell me there's no other!"
“Green Manalishi” is probably your next best bet. “With its “two pronged crown” You guys are correct though, I was going to comment that it’s a good tune but it’s about as commercial as Priest gets. Another powerful slower tune where Halford shines is Diamonds and Rust. I caught some later live videos where he just killed it.
Both them and maiden brought guitar synths into fold which explains the more electronic sound and tempo. A pretty cool tune and follow up to the amazing Defenders of the Faith album.
Great tune although I think it is far simpler than most of their stuff. I would recommend "dissident aggressor" from 77, very short tune but.. well, you'll see when you listen to it. Hellrider from 2005, The sentinel 84, jawbreaker 84, blood red skies 88... so many great tunes. Keep rockin'!
This is when Judas Priest started to fall in to hair metal sound and look...synthetic drums, hairspray, pink added to their leather. Lol still great feel good tune...
My faves from every Judas Priest album: From Rocka Rolla 1974: Cheater, Rocka Rolla; from Sad Wings Of Destiny 1976: Tyrant, The Ripper, Victim Of Changes; from Sin After Sin 1977: Sinner, Dissident Agressor, Diamonds And Rust (it's a Joan Baez cover); from Stained Class 1978: Exciter, Better By You Better Than Me (it's a Spooky Tooth cover), Saints In Hell, Invader; from Hell Bent For Leather aka Killing Machine 1978: Delivering The Goods, Hell Bent For Leather, The Green Manalishi With The Two Prong Crown (it's a Fleetwood Mac cover); from British Steel 1980: Breaking The Law (if you haven't reacted yet), Metal Gods, The Rage, Rapid Fire; from Point Of Entry 1981: Heading Out To The Highway, Desert Plains; from Screaming For Vengeance 1982: Screaming For Vengeance, Electric Eye, Devil's Child; from Defenders Of The Faith 1984: Jawbreaker, Freewheel Burning, The Sentinel; from Turbo 1986: Out In The Cold, Locked In, Reckless; from Ram It Down 1988: Ram It Down, Blood Red Skies, from Painkiller 1990: Painkiller, Touch Of Evil, Between The Hammer & The Anvil, from Angel Of Retribution 2005: Judas Rising, Hellrider; from Nostradamus 2008: Death, Prophecy, Revelations; from Redeemer Of Souls 2014: Halls Of Valhalla, Dragonaut, Redeemer Of Souls; from Firepower 2018: Firepower, Lightning Strike, Traitors Gate With Tim Ripper Owens on vocals: From Jugulator 1997: Cathedral Spires, Abductors, Jugulator; from Demolition 2001: Machine Man, Bloodsuckers, Jekyll And Hyde
Another thumper of a song. Priest is amazing. Remember to check out Big Country's version of Black Sabbaths Paranoid and also their version of Blue Oyster Cults Don't Fear the Reaper
Like you say it definitely has an 80s sound and production about but it is still great. In1988 they had a 'fun session' in Paris where they recorded a version of the Stylistics' You are Everything!🤪 Needless to say, it has never been released but there is a 1 minute snippet of it on You Tube if you dare! Their version of Fleetwood Mac's The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown) from the US Live Aid concert is well worth checking out
I suppose I'm a turbo lover because I have a turbo and I love it - and like the album cover suggests it's also a right hand drive because it's left hand on the gear stick. Looks like I need to get my nails done, I'm really letting myself go these days... Never heard this before, it wasn't released or charted here, but got to #44 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock airplay chart, probably listened to while people are driving. Very straightforward hard driving sound, with a bridge... very clever. Liked it.
@@metalmark1214 - that's a monster. I've been running a privately imported 1995 Rev 3 MR2 turbo for 17 years now. Not officially sold in the UK and now getting very rare on the roads.
Fans are not big on the Turbo lover and Ram it down (next album) albums, but i love those 2 albums. For next recommendation, i'd go earlier in the 80s with Freewheel Burning.
A great song to react to is let us pray/call for the priest. But just like the community is saying and what you said about it in the video. It was for its time. I heard this song so many times like breaking the law and living after midnight and you've got another thing comin'. Its just kills the vibe for me other than rob halford and the solo thats the only thing i like to it now these days
JP went a different direction w/ this song and many fans did not like it. My music tastes cross many genres so, I didn't mind at all. Good, but not great song (to me). Definitely a hit. Check out one of my favs in Blood Red Skies. Great vocals. Not a big hit, but definitely worth a listen.
Great review! Definitely a different style song for Judas Priest but super catchy! Big fan of this song and Rob Halford has a great voice! Ethan’s right, kind of a sellout but still entertaining and enjoyable! You guys are the best!
This song at the time had not much of acceptance because bands like these could not cross the line by using synths, same as Iron Maiden album Somewhere in Time. Metal heads are puritans by default. Hair bands and others can do whatever they want, they were considered inauthentic and in a way opportunists, but it's part of the media. That's what happened to Metalica and with the black album as much as people deny it. It is the perfect example!
Interesting reactions. Not heard this before but it took me back memory wise to a time in the early 70s when I would hang around a dingy cafe with a juke box with B sides this could have sat well with. Larry can call himself an idiot but is he? He says he missed out but would he have the wife he has today if things were different? Different kids and an Ethan that might have been impossible to live with. Would Larry's wide have wanted too marry a long haired metal freak? 🤘
Actually always loved this song though it is definitely not "Standard Priest material" Kind of like if somebody listens to Kiss "I Was Made For Loving You" and thinking "oh that's Kiss" no its not but still a good song. Make me think of those mash ups with an 80s hits mixed with a Priest song
Larry, you should listen to Ethan. He is right. This was kind of a sellout. I didn't like this when it came out, but now I like it, it is catchy. But it's a softer more poppy sound for Priest. And they were going for radio airplay at this point.
Sorry Larry, I didn't have my headphones on yet, so your "not Poll Thursday" ruse didn't work! You're going to have to get up earlier in the afternoon to get one over on me...
A very commercial sound for the mighty Priest...trying out a bit of synth guitar sounds and all that. Still good stuff, but definitely not one of their best songs IMO. You guys should check out the whole Stained Class album...it's a great one. Cheers!
This to me is when Judas Priest were in their dark days. The sell out years. So many songs better than this.
