This was the first album for Nicko. That intro alone is epic. I was listening to this album last week and that intro, was like wow. For the next mid month Maiden has to be Alexander The Great from their recent European tour.
Easily in my Iron Maiden top 5:what I love about Iron Maiden is when they have a killer riff they sledgehammer you into submission with it and never let up.This song is a perfect example.
A fitting tribute to a great influential band. Over the years they have had countless hits and shows. Each show just as grand as the last. Great song from a great album. You played my favorite Maiden drumming song on my favorite Maiden album. One of my recommended songs, of course. It was the introduction of the new drummer at the time Nicko McBrain who now is age 72. Yes Larry, back in school we wrote band names, like Iron Maiden on our folders, at least I did. This song was written by Steve Harris and is based on a 1968 war adventure film, which was based on the 1967 novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean. Larry's is right Dickinson's voice is not what it use to be in the peak years of this album, it's still good though.
You like the drumming, do ya? Haha. You might enjoy my little edit where I extend the opening riff and insert the opening drum solo right after the solos. A verbal description does no justice. But imagine a slightly longer intro and a reprise of the drums in the middle of the song, lol.
FINALLY. FINALLY. FINALLY.... YES. AND YES. This is MY VERY FIRST IRON MAIDEN Song I EVER HEARD... Your Life is now Forever CHANGED...... CONGRATULATIONS ......!!!!!!!!!!
Inspired by the film, Where Eagles Dare (1968), starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, screenplay by Alastair MacLean and based on his novel, it's a convoluted WW2 plot about a British SOE (Special Operations Executive) mission to rescue an American General held prisoner in a castle called Schloß Adler (Eagle Castle) in the Bavarian Alps. It's an enjoyable yarn, but not based on any real historical event, unlike many of Iron Maiden's songs. Great enthusiastic reaction. Bruce does have the best voice of any airline Captain I've ever heard, for sure.
@@davemac1197 I understand it was used as a prison during the war, and there are a shed load of jigsaw puzzles that feature it. Given it's location I wonder how did they manage to build it.

Maiden are, and have always been, the best heavy metal band of all time IMO...and this is coming from a huge Judas Priest fan. While their discography varies in quality throughout the years, they had so many iconic anthems over the years that they can be forgiven for producing the odd uninspired output. Of course, their early material (up until around 7th Son...) is practically untouchable...just so much great music! Their studio output has been pretty reliable, but they really shine in the live environment. A very entertaining show, full of energy and fun! Bruce is an amazing performer and vocalist...I can't believe how much energy he has on stage even though he's getting up there in the years. Anyways, great song, great band...but sad to see that this is the last reaction video that you guys have made, now over a year ago. Hi guys. As per your request, here's Maiden performing Caught Somewhere in Time on their current tour last June 24th 2023 in Dublin, Ireland. Where did they get the idea for the music in this I wonder. "Where Eagles Dare" - is there a clue in the title, even if it was made subconsciously. It so happens that there is a song about a bird that this number could even be musically an extension of as it fits in very well with a later part of "Pheonix" by Wishbone Ash, particularly the base and percussion. so maybe they got the idea for the music from that.
@@metalmark1214 certainly the lyrics are but musically....The film is a classic and still holds good today. (I can remember reading the book while waiting in a doctors surgery.)

Great reaction gents. Going to thoroughly enjoy your mid month maiden reactions! You should do any live song from their 2001 rock in Rio concert. 250k concertgoers relish in Bruce’s epic return from going solo and Adrian returns to round out the 3 amigo guitarists. My preference would be Dream of Mirrors. This is prob one of their most underrated songs but their performance of this song is epic. The Clansman is another great live song from this concert. 👍🏻👍🏻

No, man! So different
@@osamaqtaitat you obviously haven't listened to Pheonix. there is a lively section towards the back end. It's been in my collection for over 50 years now. So I know the number well. There is no shame in it either. Artists often use other works for inspiration. In it's day the Wishbone album was huge so it's unlikely that the piece wasn't known.
@@stevejones1682 I know it’s no shame! We are humans not perfect even if someone is creative and good mostly, it’s normal, actually all the greats have their vices +\-, even Maiden do it but not a lot -that’s the important thing-, their music in general mostly is authentic, sentimental, powerful, unique, great phrases and transitions. but i don’t see the similarities here! Maybe if you can clarify more! Btw, i love Wishbone Ash song Sometime world, that beautiful, emotional, powerful vibe and transitions
Iron Maiden were never one of my favourites, but the guitars, drumming and riffs are generally pretty solid. I have never commented on this before, but I like both of your chairs - they look so comfortable! 😎😎
For more glorious British rock this live performance from British rockers Thunder is simply stunning.Everything is perfect they all kill it but special mention goes to Danny Bowes wringing every bit of emotion out with his fantastic voice and the sublime guitar work from Luke Morley

Autofocus issues on the camera?
Time to react to 'When The Wild Wind Blows' by Iron Maiden. It's a total banger, you won't regret doing that one. Yes Bruce is a great singer but he is not better than Dio, sorry and Peace! Oh, here is a live video from last month and he still sounds great. czcams.com/video/LpdSkk-orCQ/video.html
Spoil Alert.... Do LIVE. NEW TOUR... ALEXANDER THE GREAT.....DO IT.....
They are doing Alexander the Great live for the first time?!? -Ethan
@@fatherandsonreactionsYes, on this new tour. Only problem is that all videos on CZcams are fan videos and not professionally produced.
Great song but the least of them on the Album 💿, To Tame a Land smokes that song 🎶 🎵 !
The song sounded good until the singing started, but that is true with most Iron Maiden songs
What are you on about? Bruce Dickinson has one of the best vocals in heavy metal.
Let's see your favorite heavy metal bands....
Thanks Jeffrey! -Ethan
