Thanks so much to the LTT team for setting it up and organizing a (very) complicated production setup, to Austin for cohosting and adding fun commentary, and to Jay for joining to put on a great show. This is also why when you have random BSOD's that you can't narrow down, one of the top things to try is simply to reinstall the OS.

We all know the outcome. Steve will win.
I love Steve's approach to tech support, I can't convey just how satisfying it is. If there is one thing I learned in repairs it was this: Assume the customer is trying to f&*k you over.
Or maybe assume the customer has no experience about hardware or anything in particular, and that his IQ is around 30. He also has bad sight and clumsy hands and assembled the pc without reading the manual and at night with dims lights while drinking with his friends near the pc. Not to mention he didn't checked the compatibility between parts before purchase.

I love how Steve knew the evil lurking within and decided straight off that it would be easier to strip/reset everything :D
It's interesting looking at this in a professional perspective. You have Jay who works with the tools he's given, and knows the results hes supposed to get and works with that. Steve's method is to take the system apart and assemble it on a test bench, identifying the problems as he goes, testing on a bench to see what results he gets, so he knows the potential, and then reinstalling the system in the case and retesting to confirm the results.
I personally like both methods equally but if I had to pick one, I'd pick Steve's. His method will never fail to identify the hardware problems. Whereas if you get the system booted, you might try to solve a hardware problem with a software solution, which can take a lot of time and may end up causing you to go backwards then forwards again. Steve's method avoids that possibility. It also compares airflows outside the case then inside, so if you're finding issues with your performance, that can help identify any cooling issues.

"tampered with in realistic ways like a novice might do" such as disabling 2 cores and hyper threading.
They were talking about the hardware stuff. The BIOS stuff is super tricky, Steve had the right approach just resetting to default.
I think novice like "first-time ever OC!" who 1) opened the UEFI, 2) changed 2-3 settings incorrectly, 3) the OS kept crashing, 4) they rushed back to UEFI and started changing random shit until it stopped crashing so often.

Gamer's Mexus
The amusing thing is, Steve is doing exactly what techies do. "This thing is broken, fix it" , "OK, let's rebuild the thing and make sure the SI/OEM wasn't incompetent." Where as Jayz is doing what you'd do in business/computer store, where you're trying to do the minimum to not waste time, possibly not finding other issues.
Steve just straight up reset the cmos before doing anything in the bios, 10/10 would always recommend.
As an engineer I've had it drilled into me that when troubleshooting you always start with the simplest things first then work your way up to the more complicated solutions. No need to strip down the entire engine and check for cracks when it's just a dodgy spark plug right? I'd say rebuilding the entire PC from the ground up as a first step is highly inefficient and kind of silly. Who's to say that a system that doesn't post simply needs a new CMOS battery, or fuse in the plug? Start simple and work your way up, always.

Dude, this was so freaking entertaining! Totally worth the time to watch.
That was a great stream and both builders were amazing and good sports. Linus always appreciate what you do and the videos you make. This was a really good watch. Well done guys.
Linus: Why is he removing the Motherboard screw
Austin: Well I thmmk thmmt he Is lojdjsnsg fdonsnr sabotage...
Linus: Oh good point
That's funny because it's true
Sabotage lol
Exactly! XD
After watching this video, I know why Steve’s called Tech Jesus.
Linus: so you think u fixed everything in BIOS ?
Steve: I just reset it
SteveOP
i can relate with god's wrath using flood water as an attemp to reset the world.
@Cyclo Key hmm.. I mean he tried to do it with a virus... didn’t succeed. So maybe..?
Fallen, sin-cursed world.
Honestly don't know why they didn't just reset it from the start and then just apply all their usual settings. It is SO MUCH faster than doing what they started doing.

This was absolutely the most fun I've had on CZcams, ever. Kudos to everyone involved.
I clicked on this not realising id be sitting here 2 hours later not even knowing it was 2 hours long!!
One of the greatest streams ive watched in absolutely ages! All these guys are very talented but never big headed..good people here..
Please tell me there is more of these!!
On the next episode of mystery tech:
*JUST MICROPHONES*
lol
My favorite part of this was Linus and Austin not noticing that Steve just straight up reset the bios.... bruh
But they did......
Ivan Santoso He reset the BIOS and set XMP - they claimed the entire time that he doesn’t have XMP and wondering if he caught the UEFI issue...
@@isnflsQP Steve reset the BIOS at 14:58, but Linus is still asking him at 25:25. They were understandably unable to watch three different video streams at once due to their own audio issues early on.
Just jumped on CZcams to check out some PSU reviews and 2hours later, it's 2am and I've just watched a fantastic stream. Absolutely loved this challenge. I know its more complicated than that but loved Steve's somewhat turn it off and on approach to it all 😜
I wish I had seen this when it happened, love seeing Jay go full ADD at the end looking around and fidgeting.
One of the most entertaining live streams I've seen on yt! Great job guys!
Agreed. One of the few I've watched through all the way. Had so many laughs. I usually do not watch LTT livestreams, but w/ GN here, I was in 100% and was not disappointed. The best livestream of 2020, without a doubt.
When Austin said “S̶h̴s̷k̶a̶n̷s̸h̶j̸s̵j̶”
I felt that
Man this was great! Love Gamers Nexus, and Jayz two cents. Loved how annoyed Jay was getting under pressure. Never seen him like that.
This was fun to watch, I hope you do more
