I love part 8, I know it's terrible but me and my friends loved it as kids and it holds a special place in my heart. We used to rent this on a regular basis and at one point the guys at our local video store told us we were responsible for over half of its rentals from them 😂
Its not even completely terrible, the worst thing about is that its bloodless mostly and the thing with the toxic waste
@@lutherheggs451 my two favorite scenes in the movie was the Boombox scene with the street kids and the Diner scene. The Cook who Jason tossed into the mirror that actor played Jason in Freddy Vs Jason.... The stupid director chose him instead of hireing Kane Hodder who played Jason since part 7 and was my favorite actor to play Jason. so I love seeing Kane toss that guy into the mirror everytime I see movie.
i love 8 as a kid but as an adult i hate the movie for me it just boring but im not judging u for liking it or nth everybody has there opinion

There is just no way part 8 is the worst, it's one of my favourite ones! Easily my most watched. Loved it as a kid in the 90s.

the 2009 reboot is absolutely one of my favorites in the franchise. with that being said.. i wish we could see a trend where instead of remaking the classics, studios start remaking the movies that could have been awesome. how bad ass would it be to see the Jason Takes Manhattan that we were hoping for with a legit budget backing it up?? that would be fucking rad.

Jason was the killer in 6 of the 8 movies. Everybody knows his mom is the killer in the original but a lot of people forget that the killer in Part 5 was a copycat.

@@Booboba11 I would literally watch 5 or Manhattan on a god damned loop before I would watch Jason Goes to Hell...That movie is so trash, so cheap looking and the tiny bit of Jason that is actually in it he looks awful....The only time Jason has ever looked worse was that god awful Party City cosplay they used in Freddy v Jason....Jason's head in Goes to Hell looks like a god damned nutsack with a mask glued to it.

I love that the lesson Paramount took was that people were tired of Jason. Rather than they just made a bad movie that didn't even remotely deliver on it's title's promise.
I think Warner Bros made the first film and then Paramount took over after that.
Its not even remotely that bad...Jason Goes to Hell is far worse...Hell its better than Halloween Ends. At least Jason Takes Manhattan didn't decide to make the 8th movie in a franchise about some random kid that nobody had even seen or heard of until that moment.
@@lutherheggs451 I'd agree that Jason Goes To Hell is worse. And there are certainly pleasures to be had in Jason Takes Manhattan. But we'll have to agree to disagree on Halloween Ends. I kind of enjoyed it (up to a point). But then again I'm weird. My favorite Friday the 13th is part 5.
@@lutherheggs451 I have to agree. Halloween ends is one of the worst horro movies I have ever seen. It sidelined one of its main characters (Michael) most of the film. Same issue happened with Laurie strode in Halloween kills. The decision to only give Michael Myers like 10 mins of screen time and making him comically weak even though he was a monster in the first two movies was a huge blunder

No lies told. And I need elements of corny/cheesy in my horror as well. This element has always been alive since "scary" B movies in the 30s. Love it.
As a former high school teacher I can tell you this field trip would never have been approved.
This was my personal favorite as a kid, loved the head punched off and just the overall fun of the ever changing locations.

I've never hated this movie. It's pure nostalgia for me as it's the second Friday movie I saw at the theater as a kid, the other being Friday the 13th part 7. I saw this movie 3 times that summer. I first went with my dad, then my cousins, and finally me and some friends spent a summer after noon movie hopping and Friday the 13th part 8 was one of the films we saw. We also snuck into Arachnaphobia and Do the Right Thing.
I actually watched the beginning of Kazam, with Shaq , until it was time to sneak into Billy Madison. (Though, it could have been The Jerky Boys) if memory serves correctly

This movie needed to take place in Miami during spring break ... How the Hell didn't they do something like that? Jason in the beach. Lots of girls in bikinis. IT WRITES ITSELF! ( even do parodies on JAWS)
It should be called Jason Takes a cruise to New York City and spends a grand total of two minutes there. Although me and my brother watched this in high school and we had a big crush on Kelly Hu.

I actually love part 8. I think next to part 6's Jason, this version is by far the most fearsome. There was always something terrifying about Jason walking on the bottom of the ocean heading towards New York Harbor.
I like this one too! I think the hate is literally only because of the title and the fact that he isn’t there much. If it was just called Friday part 8 I think alot of people wouldnt hate it as much

Thank you, Not John, it's always nice to find a fellow part 8 fan!!! I love this entry!! Always have, from the time I first caught it on AMC's Fear Fridays block. (Anybody remember that?) In fact, I love all the Paramount entries. As for all the ones that came afterwards, well.....not really a fan of any of those. Except Freddy vs Jason, cause, hell it's Freddy vs Jason!! I am looking forward to the possible new entry we may get next year, though. I acknowledge part 8's faults, but for me, they in no way, ruin the film. I especially have always loved that kick ass theme song, "darkest side of the night"!!!

I think a lot of people take out of context the scene where we see Jason’s body as a boy instead of a dissolved corpse at the end in the sewer. Remember folks lead heroine Rennie, has constant Hallucinations of boy Jason that goes in with real adult Jason, especially when he’s near by. She probably only saw a visual of Jason’s body as a boy when in fact it was really still a dissolved corpse.
As a whole, this flick has never bothered me…. This one is one of the more “80’s Looking” of the Franchise

The comic book series Maniac of new york really shows what could of been if they went all New York for a Friday the 13th.

This is about as nostalgic as it gets, I was 10 at my first official sleepover and we snuck the VHS out of my friends parents bedroom to watch it in our fort in the living room, oh the good ol days.
My mom and a 12 year old me were part of the few who actually saw this in the theater. I'll never forget it.
Another thing I Love about this Movie is that when it came out on July 28th 1989 I turned 3yrs Old the Next Day 😎😎💯💯
Love this movie and Jason on a boat is still creepy and claustrophobic. Didn’t realize that this movie was technically the last to be canon in the original timeline.

@@mariogalesakariog3875 did you watch it? I personally didn’t like it. Michael looked weak the whole movie and wasn’t even really in it until the last 15 minutes. I honestly think they could have added the last 15 minutes of the movie onto the end of Halloween Kills and it would have been fine. The first 85% of the movie felt like a waste of time. They spent all that time building up something just to toss it aside at the end
The best part of Halloween ends is that it makes Friday the 13th V's tackling of a copy cat look like citizen Kane

I love part 8. It was the first Friday the 13th vhs that I purchased as a kid. That opening with 'The Darkest Side of The Night' song is just epic. I wish they could've done the original ideas for the movie to actually take place in New York for the majority of the movie. Even though I know it's not what it was supposed to be I still enjoy it. But honestly I enjoy all of the Paramount movies in the franchise to an extent.
I watched this all the time as a kid solely to get to the great NY parts. An absolute guilty pleasure that holds a place in my heart.
6 of them. Part 1 was Pamala Voorhees, and part 5 was Roy the paramedic.
I remember ending with him turning into a kid which is weird because I rarely see or hear anything about that ending but yet the VHS I rented had that ending.
Originally Jason drowned as a kid at Crystal lake. That is what the message is about in this film. It brings closure to Jason's body and soul.
Manhattan city is one of my favourite Fridays along with 3 6 and 7.

You mean the movie thats basically jason vs the fire starter? That movie was TRASH dude. Everything after manhattan was pure unadulterated garbage. They kept on trying to redefine the formula. Which is why the series wouldnt be decent again until jason X and freedy VS jason, and ultimately 2009 Friday. By far the best entry.

This movie could've been so much better if Paramount had given it a sufficient budget. But Paramount apparently hated Friday the 13th thus were always looking for an excuse to lowball the movie.
The original script really indicated the movie would've been awesome if they had the money to do everything they wanted to.

Not gonna lie, this movie made child me terrified of puthing a cloth on my face (something I loved doing while taking baths). I was sure I would get a hot sauna rock through my chest if I did.
The actress who played the young Rennie in this film is a good friend of mine. A lot of this film was made in Calgary. The young Rennie on a boat scene was filmed at an indoor swimming pool in Calgary
I hate the excuse that the budget couldn't afford to film in New York.
They could have filmed a whole movie in Canada in the city and got tax breaks for it.

It's not even close to the worst. Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X were so much worse. It's a fine entry with some cool scenes. My biggest issue is the Jason makeup isn't as good as some of the other zombie Jason makeups

I've always looked at it as though child Jason was Rennie's hallucination. There's a fan film that helps with that theory, as well.
That makes perfect sense and I kinda always understood that to be the case due to all of the hallucinations Rennie had of him through the film..
Yup, that was my theory too. At the end, when Jason was supposedly dead - so was her childhood fear of the water - or Jason under the water - whatever she thinks she saw. That's why I think they could continue with a Part 9.
@@DBradshaw25 Exactly, great explanation. Unfortunately, the general public is too lazy to think like that and symbolism is lost on them. I remember going to see Insidious The last key and hearing several people in the movie say "I thought Lin Shaye's character died." It was heavily advertised that the movie was a prequel.
What it's actually supposed to be is Jasons spirit being set free. The director wanted this to end the series the idea is that Jason is a curse on the lake but once he finally dies his soul is set free. The child Jason we see is supposed to represent his spirit finally passing on after he's been truly killed for the supposed final time.
I like part VIII, but I wish they could've had more money for the story & going around New York City.

As I remember it, that teaser you mentioned had Jason staring at Manhattan to the tune of “New York New York” in the background. That’s what made the teaser for me.
I sneaked a tv in my room in my teens and this was my first Friday 13th film I saw about 3am one night in the uk. As such it’ll always be a favourite

I think Friday part 5 has reached cult status much like Halloween 3. I personally always had loved for Friday 5, Friday 8?... not so much. I have managed to make a bit of a turnaround on 8 changing my opinion from complete hatred to "it's meh".
Part 5 certainly had the best nudity. Part 9's tent scene "coming" in a close second!
Part 5 kicks ass, and doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. It’s the last Friday film that wasn’t critically toned down by the censors.

This was a personal favorite of mine. I love the ways Jason killed and interacted in the boat and New York. Plus, we get a cameo of future Voorhees Ken Kirzinger.

They really need to make another. Even if the next is truly the last one to ever be made. You see, there are 12 films total in the franchise. If they make another, there will be 13 films.

I remember my brother renting this..and with us being born and raised in NYC we were ecstatic about seeing Jason in New York killing a bunch of people lol ...of course (aside from some kills and funny moments)we were so disappointed... I remember my sister saying "that shit was whack" when the movie ended lol ...I didn't say anything because I was the youngest and they would have made fun of me but I actually enjoyed it haha I thought the boat stuff was fun but that ending was confusing. I still say out of all of the Friday movies this is the one that deserves a remake in my opinion...too bad it will never be made...

I remember when this film was first announced that a couple magazines (EW ,Premier & others) announced the film as Friday the 13th part VIII Terror in Times Square.
The director's original vision of "FRIDAY THE 13TH Part 8: Jason Takes Manhat-tan" deserves to be made into a graphic novel or a paperback novelization.
I personally love this one. It's probably in my top 5 lol
6:40 the biggest problem in any horror franchise is a very regular, very nasty tendency to drastically reduce the budget IMMEDIATELY before filming starts. Then the director has to change everything about the film in order to accommodated the new budget. A small budget is fine if everybody involved knows what they are getting into long before production starts. Roger Corman is famous for taking small potatoes and putting together decent-looking films, but thats because he's a master budgeter and he knows what he's getting into. If you were to remove some of his funds at the last second he'd have difficulty.
I dont know why horror films more than others continually get stomped on right before filming. Seems to be a trend but I cannot figure it out.

I may be the only one, but back when cable channels would run Friday the 13th marathons in the 90’s for some reason I interpreted someone saying “Jason Takes Manhattan” for “Jason Takes My Hat.”

I remember watching this when I was like 10 or 12 thinking “how did a cruise ship get into a small lake, and then back to the ocean?” Lol
My favorite one to this day will always be New Blood.. because a girl with telekinetic powers took out a serial killer... Nobody has been able to top that since.. So I'm kind of mad that they didn't continue on with her story because she's successfully went up against the city of killer and won..

Always a good time staying up late watching Friday the 13th movies with some friends back in the 80's and 90's. I have seen a few of them on DVD recently but it is nothing compared to watching them on a grimy old video tape
One of them stupidest things was the fact Camp Crystal suddenly connected to the ocean.

The idea was our main heroine was having flashbacks and visions of Jason as a young boy, and the body that is wiped away by the acid in Part 8 didn't morph into a young boy, but rather was another vision. The filmmakers were just ineffective of establishing this in the film itself leading to mass confusion.

If this movie made Paramount pictures $50 million we’d all be talking about weather or not it was one of the best instead of the worst. I always loved it. I think they should’ve done a Die Hard Crossover with Jason Takes LA. With the film taking place in a still unfinished Nakatomi Plaza and Bruce Willis being the hero constantly talking shit to Jason who inexplicably kept a walkie talkie on him while Willis uttered out timeless one liners. “Come to the coast, let’s get together, again, have a few laughs.” A man can dream.
I've thought about what direction this movie might've taken if Jason still came to New York, but cut an indiscriminate wide bloody swath through it as he pursued the survivors. He kills his way to Central Park, and he feels a sense of familiarity. He chooses to cease pursuing the Lazarus survivors and instead lays claim to the park and kills anyone he finds within it. Central Park is essentially the new Crystal Lake and nothing the police try works to stop or kill him. How would New York handle such an epic killer? What would it do with the surrounding neighborhoods? How might such a movie play out after that?
This is my absolute favourite Friday! I agree, it’s the worst of the franchise, but it’s still the one I watch most often. 😂 I love it.
I used to hate this move , until a couple of years ago. I saw a Halloween screening at a small art house theater in Ft. Lauderdale . Seeing it with a sold out theater full of Jason fans made it so much fun .
"The 80sness of it" is right. Jason is just horror royalty. I must admit, Halloween Ends was enjoyable for this same reason. I am unashamed of my gorey horror addiction. No cure possible 🤣🤣 Sigh...thank you for doing all these horror dissections, JoBlo👏👏👏👏
Halloween Ends is a god awful garbage trash Halloween movie......Its at best a teen level afterschool special about bullying...Clearly some people and people who worked on the movie need to learn the definition of trilogy....
Halloween Ends would be like if Return of the Jedi just ignored everything that happened in Empire and New Hope ignored that stor yto focus on some mentally deficient trash collector on a random planet....The story of Ends COULD have been a decent movie with about 5 more passes on the script to make it less like an afterschool special about bullying and was made a flat out Anthology film with no Myers, No Laurie, nothing to do with anything except maybe Haddonfield, IF they had started sprinkling in Corey in like the 2018 movie.
@@lutherheggs451 Storyline and plot, you're right, garbage there. It definitely wasn't A+ but I guess Michael doing what he does best, that darkness of it all and Laurie and all of Haddonfield doing a Freddy Krueger type vigilante justice deal just made me at least not hate the project.
JASON v THE TMNT, JASON v CASEY JONES or JASON v THE SHREDDER...all would be awesome but we'll never see happen. These would make fun Halloween special comic issues.
When I was 9 my moms lady friend took me and my 10 yr old brother to the movies and I was adamant about Jason and his Manhattan adventures. My older brother? Not so much. She gave in to my wants, and we watched, what was my first true horror, in a theater! I was already hooked on vhs blood guts and gore and my poor pussified brother cried and complained so much, we weren't allowed to go to the movies with my mom's friend alone ever again. I love this movie!

“Ashes to Ashes” was a Frank Mancuso thing. To keep details of the sequels under wraps, they’d put a working title in place that didn’t allude to it being an F13 movie. So Mancuso would give the sequel the name of a David Bowie song or album.

Dude, this was the best Friday the 13th movie hands-down. Especially at the end when he’s like, “ mommy, don’t let me drown” and then an adult body becomes a little kid, while his mask washes away. I was kidding…. This movie is horrible. But I thought it was bad ass when I was young. If you was in Manhattan with all those people, I would’ve thought that Jason would’ve went ape shit crazy and killed everything in sight. Instead, we have this movie.
Also, great video. I really enjoyed watching it.
Nobody will ever convince me that the 7 New Blood Jason wasn't the coolest looking Jason.
Jason Takes Manhattan is my favorite one. I was born in 84’ and loved horror movies as a kid.
I love this one. One of the first posters I saw at the theater that really mesmerized me at a kid (Phantasm 2 was the other). Much rather watch this one then 5 and 7. Plus I just love the darkest side of the night, just that song alone is better than anything in 5 or 7, lol.
Phantasm III's theatrical poster still mesmerizes me to this day.
