Oh my goodness, you're right!! I knew I was missing something that happened on this date... 😢.. Just reading this while I hadn't re-remembered yet..just broke my heart all over again.. I still remember clear as day..purposely keeping the radio on..because every other commercial break it seemed.. - they were updating us, on whether Tom was predicted to make it, probably at the hospital, I forget.. :( I just hung out near the radio for awhile that day..waiting to hear if he was gonna make it or if we'd lose him 💔 I can't believe I was ~just~ quoting a song of his last night, & totally had forgotten what today was, other than a couple birthdays :3

@@whoamellie5610 Hi there. Just like you I was also listening to every news report on that fateful day. A friend had messaged me that Tom Perry passed away. I remember going out to our deck, and I sat down in a patio chair and cried. Then I came back in the house and heard that, he hadn’t actually passed away, but he was rushed to the hospital. As the day went on, the news became more dire by the hour. The really strange thing for me is that he passed away on the eve of my 60th birthday. I never thought that I would enter the next decade of my life without Tom Petty, being a part of it. I am so grateful I got to see him on his final tour with the Heartbreakers. thank goodness for Tom Petty radio station on SiriusXM. @echt114 Really, Frank and Elvis didn't play instruments? That's new information to me. Elvis even played guitar on many of his albums, and on stage.
Also, I'd like to point out that every single person you pointed out were solo artists, who weren't part of any band/group. Even still, they had real bands playing music with them on stage.
Plus, there are many bands, where the lead singer doesn't play any instruments. Yet they are part of the band playing music on stage.
There is some differences between band, group, solo artist, a boy band, and acapella. Boy bands are not bands, or solo artists. They are a group, that would have been better if they had done acapella, instead of singing to synthetic sounds. I'd rather look at AI art which all looks so fake to me.

Kind-hearted, great sense of humor, and truly an artist in every sense of the word. Music is not something you generate in a computer and then autotune the hell out of. It’s talent. It’s emotion. It’s tears, anger, joy, and everything in between, and it comes from the soul, expressed in a medium that takes years and decades to master. And it’s the tiny imperfections that give it a life of its own. Tom knew that better than most “artists” today.

Tom Petty's music still rings true. Before he passed away, a fellow musician friend of mine sent me the lyrics to "Wildflowers," which inspired me to make a move across country to a distant place wherein I know I will feel free. I am sure many others listened to Petty's lyrics and did the same over the years. As a singer-songwriter myself, I am always cognizant of writing lyrics that people can relate to or that inspire. It isn't easy and neither is finding the right chords to make the words sing, but we do what we can do and hope for the best.

What I love about TP was his ability to reflect back to us our intimate lives, loves, fears, anger, justified indignation all of it. As many men as women commented when he passed; all the babe magnet rubbish just fell by the wayside. He stood for something. Recently watched his performance with his unmatchable band at the Superbowl in 2008, a difficult year economically all over the world but that simple song united people in a good way, belying Douglas Murray's contempt when he speaks of the madness of crowds. To me it's an ignorant ungenerous pseudo-perspective. People can unite for good or evil or out of fear or rejoicing. Petty was a catalyst at that moment in time for good, which I for one will not forget.

My brother was working on Toms new house during the Wilbury period. In fact the wilburys big photo was in front of a door my brother built. He told me one day he was working around back and George Harrison came out the back door and jumped in the pool. I had a dream once that I was watching TP and the HBs from side stage and Tom started playing a song I’d never heard before (and I’ve heard em all). I woke up, grabbed my guitar, and recorded it and was able to remember the first two verses, lyrics and all. That was a very emotional dream because I realized within the dream that “how can I be seeing Tom…..he’s deceased!” And so all of a sudden it seemed like a very special spiritual experience. I woke up w tears streaming down my face. The lyrics of the song were about him “coming back” (in a spiritual form). I think a part of us all died when Tom left us.
