    I have been taking vitex for nearly two years. It has really helped by heavy periods and cramps. It took a year before I noticed the results. I am peri menopausal Now my periods every two months and are a lot lighter. My skin clear and I feel happier. I wish I had found it earlier. I now take only 1 tablet per day. 😊

    I’ve been taking it for couple of months now it has been great. It has helped with my PMS tremendously. I had short cycles that averaged 17 days apart and I feared they would make there way back to twice month, which I had when I was a teenager and I had to take birth control. My doctor is always harassing me about getting on birth control. I tried a couple years ago and I immediately noticed a change in my behavior. I became very angry and depressed. I told my gynecologist, and he suggested I take a lower dose and I told him NO. I went back to him after having a cyst rupture and he still insisted I get on BC. It was very scary. But I prefer using natural remedies.

      I really hope Vitex continues improving things for you with each month. It's truly such an amazing herb. And it angers me how pushy doctors are when it comes to birth control pills. No matter what reproductive issue you have, they will offer the pill as if it was some kind of a panacea for everything. So ridiculous and very, very sad. Glad you're taking initiative and digging deep!

    Hi Vita, I recently found out that iron is used by the pituitary to create progesterone, so if your iron is low, your progesterone could be low. I recently extended my cycle from 21-24 days out to 29 days by increasing my Ferretin level with iron supplements, no herbs needed. So before using Vitex, it could be a good idea to check iron level and optimize it first, then if the progesterone level still doesn't come up, then try herbs like vitex to increase it.

    Just my 2 cents: I began taking vitex in tincture form at the beginning of my period about two months ago. It began working for me within days. I will chronicle the symptoms that were alleviated almost immediately, beginning at ovulation. Previously I’d been able to tell straight away when I’d ovulated because my breasts would become sore immediately, and then be sore until my period truly began, after about 5 days of spotting. I had zero breast soreness (which surprised me to the point I thought I might be pregnant), zero pms symptoms, and spotting was reduced to 2 days. Also, my period came a few days later than predicted, I believe because the vitex immediately lengthened my luteal phase, which had been short. Cramps I’ve reduced through a different herb tincture called cramp bark as well as cinnamon. Anyway, I was so amazed by the efficacy of vitex- I highly recommend tincture form. I believe it’s cheaper that way as well. Also, I was advised by a naturopathic expert that if your body can really utilize a herb well (for medicinal purposes), the effectiveness can be almost immediate as it was for me. I also began incorporating hot yoga at the same time, which I’d stopped doing, and increasing my greens intake while reducing sugar and eliminating snacking. All of this has really made a difference. Thanks for the helpful advice about libido and dosage, I certainly wouldn’t want anything interfering with that. (Actually, vitex has helped in that regard because intercourse can sometimes be painful for me due to various related issues, and on vitex it has not been!)

    Vitex (chasteberry) is natural progesterone only. So that's what it balances, your progesterone. So bad crampers, heavy bleeders (i.e low progesterone, endometriosis, PCOS), vitex will help. Start low dose and increase steadily to find your happy balance.

    I just ordered the Vitex liquid from Gaia because I struggle with swallowing capsules. I also ordered the shavatari and not sure how to combine these. I am thinking try the vitex first before incorporating anything else. My main concern is I get my period regular one month and the next month it is a week early and it’s very draining on my body because I don’t store iron. I did buy copper tablets as you did point out that copper plays a major role in repairing our cells and storing iron.

    I am much older than you …..I have a vitex story, too. When my periods started, they were out of control. They were extremely heavy w/ clotting. I was getting blood on my clothing, on my bedding. I had to change my pads very often. I didn't suffer w/cramps...but the heavy bleeding was horrible. It was more like hemorrhaging. My periods would last a couple weeks ! They ruled my life for years & years. It wasn't until I was close to menopause age that I started seeing a natural health doctor & she put me on vitex. Oh my gosh, the difference that made! For the last two years of having periods, I experienced normalcy !! I didn't realize, tho , that vitex was something that would benefit me now....20 yrs. after my period stopped. I am estrogen dominant....I'm going to get some vitex & get back on it !

    Thank you for sharing! My g/f is considering this herb so i'm looking into it for her. It really seems like there's a bigger problem, and not just with her. I'm in my 30's, but every girl i've ever been in a relationship with has had PMS issues, so much so that i've never dated a girl that was on birth control...FOR birth control. It pains me to see something that should be as natural as the tides has to be manipulated by pills, diet, vitamins, etc. There's something seriously wrong with existence, and it's manifesting in women. Top it off with a world full of people, including doctors it seems, who don't know what "normal" is. When we started dating she was on the patch, and it regulated whatever needed it enough that she had a period. But she quit using a few years ago and hasn't had a normal period since. She's of the mind it revolves around her weight, and that probably is a bigger piece, but there's so much more to it that it's just frustrating.
    Thanks again. Hopefully this will make a positive difference that will educate both her and I about what the root of the problem is, and she can eventually have normal periods without having to induce it chemically or hormonally.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  Před 6 lety +3

      You're right, PMS and painful or heavy periods are considered completely normal nowadays, while in reality they aren't. We need to get back to the roots and re-balance our bodies, so we can re-learn what normal really is. Hope Vitex helps your girlfriend!

      That's because women living in urban areas nowadays fail to make enough progesterone. They work all day long, they can't take a nap at noon.
      Progesterone needs rest and sleep in order for the pineal gland, adrenalsto function properly and ovaries to produce it.

I went off it periodically. Then I completely stopped. Recently, I started cinnamon and poria and some other fertility boosting herbs. I took those for 2 weeks and started heavy heavy heavy bleeding. • @ferry2495
    @ferry2495 Před rokem +5

    The thing with vitex is many women start with high doses like 200mg or 400 mg that's too much and the instructions on the bottle suggest two to three capsules which is so wrong. If you are estrogen dominant / have estrogen toxicity vitex alone might cause more problems and you need to take a dim supplement along to get rid of the toxic estrogen in the body. It's always good to start a low dose like 20mg and see how it works I would never take a high dose of vitex when starting with it. Also, no one talks about taking vitex in menopause and post-menopause which is frustrating and should be taken, and of course, start a low dose and stay on a low dose in that situation. At the end of the day its always good to do the dutch test and know where you are at but it's bloody expensive so yeah good luck everybody and be cautious with the dosage start slow and increase gradually.

    I am sharing my personal experience in hopes that it will help others. Currently in perimenopause. Average cycles: 24-26 days with a few short cycles throughout the years for the past 5+ years so I didn’t think anything was wrong but maybe I’ve been in peri and never knew it. Then my cycles became 35, 14, 34 with bleeding lasting past 7 days. I was going crazy so I decided to make some changes. 1st cycle on vitex (500mg) morning and night - started taking it on day 8 of my 14 days cycle. Bled for a full 15 days. Continued to take it every day. Cycle 2: 34 days, switched to a mix of dong quai and vitex (1000mg) and only took a morning dose from here on due to the high dosage. Bled normally for 6 days, spotted on day 7 and that’s it. Yay! I also bled like I did when I was younger. The past few years it was 2-3 days of bleeding then nothing to spotting for the rest of the time so even though I bled more, I was still happy that I was bleeding normal like my younger years. Cycle 3 was down to 28 days and this is where I’m at currently so it seems to be normalizing me. In addition to vitex and dong quai, I also quit sugar and started exercising daily. Ate less too and I think the combination of all 3 things is what helped me and I will see what happens on the next cycle but so far so good. Happy not to go down the hormone therapy or birth control route as I much prefer the natural way. The only con are the hot flashes. They are worse! But you can’t win them all. I plan on staying on this regimen until I hit the 6 months mark and then will take a break per recommendations. Good luck ladies!
    PS I appreciate the info about weening off rather than totally quitting. I’ll make sure to do that when I hit the six month mark.

      You shouldn't be getting hot flashes if you are on good supplements. Sugar isn't going to do anything either. It's your ovaries shutting down. And you can go on Bio Identicals hormones. And women need Estradiol localised for the vagina area. It's very important. Pelvic and core work is needed on top of it. You then have to enter menopause and then tweak and change your lifestyle/supplements /bio identicals the dosage again. Because its post menopause the first 5-8 years where everything changes. Your body needs hormones to function. Akin to a car driving around with no oil. Bones need to checked on as well. So VitD3 and VitK2 daily for life.

Started with vitex (powder) approximately 1/2-1 teaspoon mixed with 1 teaspoon Maca each day. I have been getting irregular heartbeats a couple of times, i don't know if it has to do with this. Has anybody had the same ?

      Maca is a stimulant, so perhaps that's why you got irregular heartbeats? Try each of them on their own and then you'll know which one is causing them.

Starting to loose hope, as most people seem to notice the benefits straight away. When did you start noticing the benefits? And anyone else who has experienced not seeing any results until after the 2nd or 3rd month?

I sleep a lot deeper (like when I'm menstruating) but I also wake up with a lot more energy (unlike menstruation). I haven't had any spotting either yet, buuuut this also isn't the normal time that I would spot.

But it sure alleviated my long periods because before I had 2 week menstrual bleeding but now I only have it for 7 days but crampy especially on the 2nd day. Not sure for this month though

      Could it be something like salicylate or oxalate sensitivity (those are the ones that cause issues with herbs)? Also herbs do take a few months to balance things, they don't really have complete results after just a month or two, so sometimes we just need to give them more time.

      @Vitalivesfree  Před 6 lety +2

      I've heard women taking it for years without any issues but I've also read that it's good to come off it for a month every 6 months but I suppose that's for women who don't take breaks during their period. Having a five-day break every month would probably be enough to keep it effective long term. But that's just my guess. You'll need to do your own research.

    I’m 18 years old, and about a year ago I tried taking birth control for my horrible PMS mood symptoms. However, all it did was give me HORRIBLE brain fog, memory loss, and other awful side effects. I stopped taking it this January, but after that, the brain fog and side effects got continuously worse. After some research, it looks like birth control gave me hormonal imbalance. I’ve been like this ever since I stopped the pill (which is 7 months now).
    I’ve been looking into Vitex, since it looks promising in balancing out hormones. My doctor hardly knows anything about it, but she recommended trying 40mg to help my hormonal imbalance. I’ve taken 40mg for three months, and I notice no difference other than a very slight decrease in my PMS symptoms (my brain fog also became slightly worse, but I think that might be due to increased boredom).
    I read somewhere saying that you need to take a MUCH higher dosage than 40mg to balance your hormones. My doctor doesn’t know how much I should take since she doesn’t know anything about Vitex, so I’ve been researching for answers instead. However, it’s been IMPOSSIBLE to find a good/straight answer. Most people use Vitex to get pregnant, and therefore they take an insanely high dose. I can’t find any advice anywhere on how much Vitex I should take if I JUST want to balance out my hormones, and not to get pregnant.
    Almost every website I’ve visited says that there is no specific dosage recorded of how much Vitex you should take and so you should talk to your doctor instead, but my doctor doesn’t know either. I’m also not sure if I should increase Vitex slowly, or just jump to a much higher dose if it’s safe to do so (if I were to increase it slowly, how many milligrams should I increase it by?). I also don’t know how much Vitex would be too much for me, since I’m only 18 and am just using this supplement to balance out my hormones; OR how long I should be taking it. This information that I’m looking for is impossible to find on the internet, since it’s an herb that hasn’t been widely studied.
    I just want this horrible brain fog to go away and to feel like myself again.
    I’m seeing an endocrinologist (thyroid specialist) soon for other reasons, but they know a lot about hormones and thyroid, so they might be able to help.
    But in the meantime, I was wondering if you had any advice on the questions I have, or know of any reliable source that has answers to these questions. If you don’t, it’s totally fine!! Thank you so much for reading all of this; I’m sorry for such a long comment. Thank you for uploading this video.

    I've been taking vitex for a month now & ever since I started it (maybe a week after starting), I've been having constant breakouts. All in the hormonal area -- chin and jaw. Every day, there are 1-2 new breakouts. I know from past lab tests, my progesterone has been low. Do you think this is a bad sign that I'm breaking out still after a month of taking it? I'm not sure if I should stop taking it.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  Před 6 lety +1

      I definitely didn't see any breakouts and had much clearer skin on it but it also takes a long time to balance hormones, so perhaps it's just an initial breakout? Another explanation could be that Vitex could lower estrogen levels, so if yours were already on the low side, it could make the estrogen/androgen ration unfavourable, which then could cause breakouts and potentially hair loss. Another possible reason could be if you're allergic to mint plant family (vitex is in the mint family).

    • @KristenAdamek
      @KristenAdamek Před 6 lety

      VitaLivesFree both my estrogen and progesterone were low so yes my estrogen is low... is that a bad thing when taking it? Should I not be taking it if my estrogen is a bit lower too?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  Před 6 lety

      That's a complicated question and I've had some struggles with it, too. Opinions differ and I've seen studies showing both that vitex can help raise estrogen levels and that it can lower them. It seems that it will have a different effect on different people. For me, it kept my estrogen on the lower side, lower than I would have wanted it to be. So I combined it with things like Shatavari, Maca or Dong Quai for estrogen support and that definitely helped. This is just what worked for me though, sp please do your own research or ever better, get a good naturopath or a herbalist to help you in the balancing. It's really not easy on your own.

    • @KristenAdamek
      @KristenAdamek Před 6 lety

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  Před 6 lety

      Here's what I would personally do: I would stop the vitex and would focus on raising my estrogen first. Because higher estrogen levels would make me ovulate and would make the ovulation stronger, and then more progesterone would be produced naturally. So everything really starts from good estrogen levels. But again, I'm not a doctor, I can't advise you on what to do.

If you want to just reduce stress it might be more simple to try general calming things first if you havent yet such as cbd, hypnosis videos on youtube (i recommend thomas hall), meditation, etc, just bc it could improve your stress enough as it is you know? not to say you shouldnt take vitex (i cant recommend it bc i just started and am still learning about it) but bc it takes up to 3 months to work and lockdown may end in a few months, general things that can alleviate anxiety can change cycles enough by themselves

I would just add another recommendation: adaptogenic herbs. Things like rhodiola, Siberian ginseng, or schisandra are so good for dealing with stress and making your body more resilient.

      VitaLivesFree thank you! My GYN just straight up told me she won’t test my hormone levels. But wants to do an ultrasound. Ugh.

      You can check them yourself via either a blood test (in your nearest private lab) or you can order a saliva test online. Doctors who refuse to test things are a disgrace to their profession, truly.

    How do you measure how many ml that you have each period

      It's very easy if you use a menstrual cup. Otherwise, you can look up how much tampons or pads hold and do a rough estimate.

    Do you have an update video on Vitex?? It’d be great to know how you did!

      Not really. Shortly after I weaned off it and got pregnant, so no further update. ;-)

      VitaLivesFree oh ok. I guess I was just curious to know how much longer you took it for, and what other positive and negative things you saw.

      Hot flashes is one of the reasons people take Vitex, it could be worth trying.
