Should you be taking Vitex for fertility?

  • Ah… dear old Vitex… Agnus Castus… Chasteberry… however you want to call it :)
    This friend comes up in many conversations and for good reason. Many of you consider trying it or have tried it based on the praises sung on the herb on the internet. But… is it always right to take? Is it a matter of safe to try in any case? Well, most women I speak to, I advise to not try it or come off it, and in this video I share why!
    Hello lovelies, welcome to another one of my video’s in which we’ll talk about whether you should be taking Vitex, also known as Agnus Castus or Chasteberry.
    I wrote a blog post series a while back because I felt there is a lot of misinformation on the internet when it comes to this super herb. And yes, I do acknowledge it is a super herb… but for the right people!
    If it is not right for you, it can further disrupt your already fragile hormone balance, so let’s talk about how Vitex works so you can figure out if you should indeed give it a try.
    That way it will at least not leave you disappointed and lost when it does not “work”.

    THAT IS WHY IT IS GOOD TO TAKE VITEX IN THE SECOND PART OF YOUR CYCLE AFTER YOU OVULATED AND STOP TAKE IT BEFORE MENSTRUATION. Then it is beneficial. It wasn't mentioned in the video and it is very important for women to know.

      I’m trying to decide if I want to start taking Vitex to help with fertility. My cycle is usually 28-31 days on avg, and I’ve never really had terrible periods or any problems that I know of related to my hormones. A couple good friends recommend Vitex as they got preggo very quickly on it. When you say take it the second half of the cycle, does this mean start taking it the day after you ovulate up until day one of your period? From what I’ve read from other sources, they say to take it right after your period stops. Just trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do and if I should even delve into taking this. TIA!

      @@JessStu27 If you do not have any problems in your cycle I would not start with Vitex - then it is not necessary and better to keep your natural balance. But if you have some problem I would start with understanding how hormones in our cycle function (on you tube are many videos). When your period start all your hormones drops down. With Vitex you have to go in flow with your natural hormonal cycle otherwise you will mess it up. Vitex increase production of progesteron that means you have to take it when progesteron is naturally on the flow in your body too. That means start taking when you ovulate which is usually day 14 (count from your first day you started bleeding) and end with taking before you start bleeding again. I end with taking Vitex one day before my expected bleeding on the day 27. I know that some women take it different but it is usually because they have such problems that don't have menstruation at all so they just start. But once they have menstruation they should stay in harmony with their hormonal cycle.

      Thanks Ema! I started tracking my hormone levels using Inito, which measures Estrogen, FSH, LH and Progesterone using first morning urine. I had my LH surge yesterday and today my LH is back to baseline and my estrogen also dropped. There has been no rise in Progesterone (it’s still at 1.6). Would today be the ideal time to start on Vitex?

    • @emarabensova5353
      @emarabensova5353 Před rokem +4

      @@JessStu27 I am not a doctor but from my point of view I would take it like this: If your whole cycle is 28 days then you know that ovulation is around 14. day. So start whenever you feel after ovulation and stop 1 or 2 days before menstruation. If your whole cycle is longer than you will ovulate later so start taking later.

I stopped taking the progesterone birth control pills my doctor gave me because my cycle was still all over the place after 3months of taking them. And thirdly you have to do your research and realise everyone is different, so you need to find out what's going on in your body. Lower stress, learn about circadian rhythms, change your diet, lower your carbs, up your good fats and natural vitamin c, start daily walks, take supplements for all the issues you have. Don't always take what a medical professional says at face value....they do get stuff wrong. You have to make sure you have every area of your health covered. My prolactin issue is due to my weight, stress and sleep, so I've seen results from making changes in all areas. I even include things to make me laugh more often because using those facial muscles releases good brain chemicals. Play music daily, it lowers stress. Get out into a green space for 20 mins daily to lower cortisol. For me the best supplements are NMN sublingual powder(direct from a reputable supplier, lots of fake nmn out there!), Omega 3, vitamin D, Co-enzyme Q10, a prenatal vit, maca powder...and ashwaganda and vitex when there's a problem. How long does it take for vitex to get out of your system?? I started taking it 3 months ago when I went off HBC to try to regulate my cycle but now they have become increasingly longer (45days). I stopped taking it, but how long until my cycles return back to normal???

    I read in your blog post that after you become pregnant there is no need to continue taking Vitex to increase progesterone because your body will do that on its own...is it recommended to just stop or to slowly wean off?

    • @curiousobserver97
      @curiousobserver97 Před 4 lety

      I believe some doctors say to stop taking it after ovulation as it has not been 100% proven to be safe during pregnancy. Other doctors say to continue taking it for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and wean off gradually so the placenta continues to make the progesterone. Taking supplements can help, but do lots of research and decide for yourself if it is worth the risk. Good luck.

    I got some Vitex berries and I thought I would use it as tea/infusion/decoction. However, I have learned since that the important constituents are not water-soluble. That being the case what about grinding the berries and mixing them into something and eating them that way. Would that work? Thank you!

    I was having trouble with my ovulation/LH surge and CM linking up. In the past I was having my surge on the 11th day of my cycle and during that time I had no chemical want for sexual activity and my cm was not at all EW. I would get a lil EW CM about 5-7 days after my surge! So I decided to try Vitex this cycle. I began taking 2x daily on my first day of my period. After a week in, my mood shifted for the better, and then on track for my typical surge it happened this morning! And best yet, I have had EW CM all day yesterday and today! And very excited for sexual activity!
    I have also been working on lower stress for the last 2 months. To promote healthy progesterone production.
    Am I ok to see how this works? I feel like it is helping my hormones align.

So I am doj g vitex and its dojng the trick along with astragalus, rhemmin and ashwaganda. My o and cm have linked back up right as we speak and I have ovulated twice again in 3 days. Just like when I had my twins. I had nothing to lose as my age is against me.

    Omg this is interesting! I’ve been in my late 40s, TtC naturally, but at certain point my cycles became only 7 days (!) long. Yes, that short! So, I’m not getting anywhere. It’s been that for over two years now. My FSH go goes up and down a bit, my LH remains low. All this time I have been taking an Ayurvedic female health supplement that has 800mg of Chaste tree per serving, I have been taking two servings a day. Do you think it’s related? Or, is that menopause ?

I did not know you are suppose to stop it before your period. I’m so confused 😅. Could you please provide clarity on this? Thank you in advance.

My follicles were 20 good in size, there are 12 eggs, so there are 3 embryos, then 2 were stopped and just 1 was good but not strong because of egg quality. Sperm were strong. I am facing problem with cyst in ovaries before IVF too. So my follicles were good but eggs were immature in it. What should i do?
