The greatest band in America & I was lucky enough to know Duane & Gregg when they practiced in Mama A's back yard & ally .What an amazing thing to see..They had the chops at 16 & 17 years old..I wasn't the only one hanging out in the ally ..When they played, all the neighborhood kids would sit in there yard & listen..🍑🍑 And i got storys ill never tell..LOL..RIP Brothers
They opened for Jimi Hendrix in Madison, Wisc., May 18, 1970, the night before I had to report to Ft. Ord. Ca. to leave for Vietnam. It was an incredible show, and I still have my ticket, $7.50, main floor, center section, row 12. I'll never forget that night.🍑🍑
Very thankful I got to see them in Miami 1972 the utilmate concert Duane was gone but the rest of them carried on greatest band of that time thanks guys
Saw them at watkins glenn what a weekend!!! Trippin and cookin in the sun 50 yds from the stage it was awesome!! The Dead the Allman bros and the band how could you go wrong with that in 1973!! 600 thousand people still the biggest concert ever!!
I will never forget when this aired in '73 on Don Kirshners Rock Concert tv show. I had a little 3' reel to reel and set up a mic to the tv speaker to record the whole Saturday Night in Macon special . It featured Wet Willie outdoors, Then moved into the theatre for Marshall Tucker Band - who did a ripping version of 'Ramblin on my Mind' and finally the Allmans who were really spot on and super tight this night . I then transferred the recording onto cassette once I made that leap and it has been a treasured tape ever since. ABB was slowly emerging from the fog of Duane and Berry's passing. Fortunately bringing in Lamar and Chuck helped immensely.
@@sgg6927 Yeah, as I've heard he took it upon himself to really work on it and get good as a tribute to Duane. I'd have to say he succeeded in spades! I saw Duane, him and others play a glass slide on the second finger and that's how I've always played. It makes it easy to play chords too, you've got Chuck Berry rhythms there no problem plus most everything else.
That's an era gone by but never forgotten, thank God for video and audio, even though by today's standards are somewhat prehistoric , we have them and they are very good . Watch , listen , and learn young people , this is the best of the best !!

Losing Duane and then Berry not too long before this show is all you need to know about how they’re even capable of stepping onstage. Can’t imagine the pain. Small wonder the drugs overwhelmed them.
Greg & Chuck both excellent keyboard players , this concert is jamming nice and tight , Thank's for it! P. S, , I just had the pleasure of seeing Allman / Betts band , the sons of Greg & Dickey , fantastic show !
Wow! A rare find. Saw them about 5 weeks before this taping and just before the Watkins Glen event. They played at least 4 hrs. Saratoga NY 1973. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think that this band was THE miracle BAND in what they could produce as well as all their side antics. I mean anyone that plays must be astounded at the precision of the music, the two part lead guitar harmonies , and the whole thing that gave them their unrepeatable driving sound, topped off with this ultra phenomenal blues voice coming out of a white guy. Gregg Allman was born with an incredible head of blonde hair making the overall package that the girls would just faint over while the guys mouths would drop with the soaring ear splitting rock and roll blues. Those days appear to be mostly gone but hopefully they will be back in different configuration. No one should even attempt to copy this. It came to us and then left - leaving great memories of a better time for the world and for music.
I have seen the Brothers many times over the years, going back to Watkins Glen NY's 3 day outdoor concert in 1973, sadly by the time I really got hooked on them the Filmore East had just shutdown ... some great venues back then ...
Good ole southern rock right here. To think that a band that was barely 5 years old at this point were already veterans in their time and with still a long way to go!
I love the crowd shots, where I spot friend's parents and, uh, old folks I attend church with...oh geez, had to add, folks I went to high school with...
You just know a young Ronnie Van Zant and some of the other future members of Lynyrd Skynyrd we're watching this and taking notes. Miss you Greg, Dwayne Dickey, Ronnie, Allen Collins and all the rest of the guys see you on the other side.
Skynyrd was a totally different band. They owed a lot to the ABB for starting the Southern rock tradition, but the ABB players listened to a lot of jazz. I assure you there was no John Coltrane on the sound system at the Hell House in Jacksonville. and it's GREGG and DUANE.

Interesting, this is 1973 and Betts is playing at that time a newer Les Paul Deluxe guitar with the smaller humbuckers. With his arsenal of vintage guitars at his disposal, it's nice to see Betts playing a newer guitar instead of an old one and he sounds great.
