I was actually there during this concert back in '70. I saw them at the Atlanta Rock Festival a couple of weeks before and rode my motorcycle up to Love Valley from Charlotte and helped build the stage, clear the hillside, set up the fence behind the stage, etc. The band came up the weekend before the festival for a rehearsal and sound check; played for about 50 of us on-the-road hippies. I met a little red-haired girl there and she is still my wife. Thanks for posting this video.

Jaimoe brought so much jazz influence to their music. It must be terribly lonely for him being the only "brother" still living. One of the perils of living so long is that you outlive all of your friends and family. It is hoped that any music scholars will still interview him for any and all information about the band while he's still alive. Just as with the Beatles, this music will be heard generations from now.
@@golfhound 100% agree. I hope he can tell stories of the early days that we may not have ever heard. I did fail to mention that I am a huge Skydog fan when I commented 7 years ago. I still have a SKYDOG t shirt my brother gave me as a gift.
Duane Allman made that band something different, something special. The dude was a force! His tone and playing can bring a tear to ur eye… the build and climax from 15:35 - 16:40 is unreal, some handy fretwork. Love these boys, Skydog mornin’
Have driven west across the great plains dozens of times. Every time, when slightly in sight of the easternmost mountain range I pop in Mountain Jam. Within 30 minutes, the mountains begin to loom large. There is NOTHING like crossing the vast expanse of the midwest, and coming in sight of the Rockies while listening to this mind-blowing masterpiece.
Duane could bring things to a whole other level. He can transport me. I often come to this video to get my soul smiling and dancing. The best of them all, the Allman Brothers!
In his short time as a professional musician, Duane Allman played with just about everyone and it seemed like he raised the bar on improvisational music everytime he picked up a guitar. Not only did Allman’s playing grow exponentially but everyone who played with him seems to have grown in quantum leaps in a very short period of time. It boggles my mind to think about what Duane Allman, Hendrix, Nick Drake, Berry Oakley, Joplin, Morrison or dozens of other amazing musicians could have given the world if we hadn’t lost them in their prime. Thanks to the folks that keep posting these beautiful works of art.
Great question greenman..... At this time Dickey was a GREAT Player, Phenom.... But Duane was really coming into his own, guiding his great band of players, and in his own way, cementing his place in Rock history! 10 Years from this date, Nobody could touch Dickey!! But on this date in 1970, you could not take your eyes off of Duane Allman. Wail on Skydog!
@art: friends can disagree, i hope. dickey betts was talented, duane was talented and inspired. i would not go back 40+plus years to search a new upload of dickey betts, much as i respect him.
I was there too. Several of us stationed at Ft. Bragg got a weekend pass, set up a tent, and watched the bands. I remember Big Brother and the Holding Company, Steam, and Col. Bruce Hampton were there too.
I was there. I was 16 years old and drove up with my cousin, my sister in law, and two friends. We camped out in tents on a hillside. The only food and water we had was what we took with us although I remember a watermelon truck driving through and people stealing watermelons off the back of the truck. We listened to music late into the night and mostly slept ; during the day; or wandered around the town; meeting people.
If the truck was an old Green Ford, I discovered years ago that it was my buddy Jack (long dead) who was handing out watermelons that he had "lifted" from his Uncle. Met him there in 1970. Did not discover that I had met him there until ~1995 + ! Groovey Dude !!!
Duane is mesmerizing. Watching and hearing him play with every musical cell in his body is a beautiful trip into his extraordinary and unique talent. Grew up in this era...still grieving him...jimi...janice...jim. Thankful for living in the dawn of this great music, it has influenced and enriched my life and mind.
I was there we rode horses from Huntersville. All I had on was a pair of shorts. Sunburned as hell. A friend drove a car loaded down with beer and shine it didn't last long. We helped build the peace sigh stacking up beer cans. It was fun. Lots of free pussy and anything else you wanted.
I saw them when Duane was still with us 9/‘71 and you could not tell when Duane was playing and then Dickey swapped with him. They were seamless playing together. Gregg on that Hammond B3 Organ. with the Lesley spinning around…Berry adding the bottom to Butch and Jaimoe on percussion Damn near blew the roof off of Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Became close with Mike Callahan(sound board) and got backstage to many shows….
Just saw Gov’t Mule play Mountain Jam last week in Philly. Warren and the guys are still keeping the flame alive but great to stumble upon some live video of the one and only Allman Brothers
it's unbelievable how you can feel his spirit just through his music. Duane lives on and as long as this music is played the Allman Brothers Band will never die.

So glad someone got the idea to put this on film at that time. It is indeed a treasure to find this and to see those fingers working their magic on that guitar. What a genius he was and may his music live on forever. RIP DA
NC's Woodstock for sure! Those hills still echo the sounds of the brothers. Many came, some stayed, still a place like no other. Sure would be cool to see a Allman-Betts show here!
Allman Brothers and Duane specifically has been a part of my life every single day since the day I was born in 1981. Sharing middle names with Howard Duane Allman sort of does that lol. Yes, my dad is the biggest Duane & ABB fan on the planet. And so am I 😁
wow man never saw this footage before Duane still playing the 57 goldtop and dickey still with the sg wow you can see the riff development and where it came from well before the 1971 March Filmore versions..... thanks man Barry
Duane develop that technique of the bird sound as a tribute to Charlie “bird man” Parker the sax player. Duane was so into jazz, Parker, Davis, Coltrane and others. I personally think there was and never will be anyone who will play slide with such passion, emotion and sound like Duane.
Can't believe I missed this one but I was working to support my own 2 sons. Finally saw them at the Charlotte Coliseum (my kids (young teens) were somewhere in the audience but I was right up at the stage below Gregg's keyboard in ecstasy).
here here! it just proves for all time the influence that skydog still has after all these years. what makes his legacy interesting is that the lineup of the band with him in it only lasted 2 years and yet, the music is still selling!!!!
I was 14 when I first heard the ABB, and now, at 57, I can honestly say that they have played the soundtrack to, and marked the mileposts of, my life. "Fillmore East" still sends rushes through me with every listen, and I'm ultimately to be buried with my original release vinyl copy of it. Meantime..., see you at Wanee!!!
I can't agree with you more...It's unjust and criminal. Tomorrow will be the sad anniversary of the loss of one so young and so talented. Few people are missed this long after their passing, with such raw sorrow by people who never even knew them. And yet, Skydog's music still moves us and is very much alive. That's immortality!
More than 50 years now and his passing is felt so deeply by so many. This is a great, fabulous version of this song. But it matters not. Every time I hear Mountain Jam, no matter which version it is, while listning it gives me a deep joyful feeling inside followed by a feeling of sorrow and a tear inside from such a great loss. He was one of the few unreplaceable greats!!!

18:00 to 19:00 on red-line counter..... you can see, feel, and hear the spark of creative genius come to light and explode in Duane's psyche, through his physical being, and played out on that beautiful Les Paul...... I'll never stop lovin' the Great Skydog!! Every day, God willing, I get closer to seeing you play somewhere in the great beyond......
Very cool to compare this version with the Fillmore performance. Even with the muddy recording, the full force and energy of the band comes through strong!
Blessed to have grown up in Macon during that time, and gone to Mercer Univ., where I was part of the Student Union Board (booked the music),1971-1972. Great times. Thanks for this timeless video.

i was there for 8 days. one hell of a festival, stoned out of my mind the entire time . i have an original program called "That Love Valley Thing" for those who don't know Love Valley, it's a tiny western style town where they used to hold rodeos there. nowadays people come from all over the southeast to ride horses there. you can find Love Valley on Google images. Rock on!
I live four miles down the road. Even though I was twelve and couldn't go I remember hearing the music in my front yard. People would walk to our house to ask for a shower at the waterfall on my grandpa's land. Affectionately known as the "drip off" that the older people called it. Anyway years later I met my husband who had attended. He went as the youngest of four brothers. There were so many people there that they lost each other and didn't find one another for three days 😅
Oh my Lord. How have I missed this all this time?!? Thank you so very much for posting it! 🙏❤️🎸🍑🍄🎶 Edit: apparently I haven't missed this lol. As I scroll, I see comments I've already liked 😆👍

I remember, it was so enlightening to have my young teenage mind hearing in stereo and not listening to 3 minute 27 second songs of the Monkeys and/or James Brown etc, in monotone.... Susi, I will verify your comment about you must be getting old. You have to be around my age or older to remember that and I'm no spring chicken... I have a long goatee and my daughter calls me an old goat...I only laugh... All I can say back is at least in my day, mine and Susi's day, we could jam to real music...
@@charlieaskme1690 We had, still do, KZUM Public radio, supported by listeners. Only commercials were Promoting local record shop DIRT CHEAP. The FM radio station would come on around 9pm, stayed on until around 4a.m. -playing OUR music only. Sometimes they would play whole side of the album, uninterrupted, do to listeners support and requests. So us night owl Hippies had Our music to party to til early morning. It was new, it wasn't 'company owned' - still is Listeners supported. Nowadays it's well known and broadcast everywhere, even has Overseas listeners. Plus KZUM has Community supporters who sponsor with a few promos here +there. But basically it's a wide VARIETY of musical programs that aren't played on regular radio. It was the BIRTH of FM STEREO RADIO that is now flooded with other stations that are Commercialized, just like AM RADIO used to be. NOT UNDERGROUND ANYMORE! But, back then, it was OUR SECRET THING. JUST FOR the COOL PEOPLE!! WE STILL ARE, just less of us and more gray hair. And much more types of programs. I was a baby then at 19, have been part of HISTORY... with our generation. Boomers might not be cool to some, but we Started changes for many things. Seems like things are going backwards these days. Keep on Truckin' man. Far out ✌🏼
Don't forget Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson bangin' the skins with the Brothers....
Jamming doesn't get any better than this!
I'm so happy that this exsists.
Merci. What a song, what a performance.
They should’ve hired THESE cameramen at the Fillmore
Anything that Duane is on back in the day is a very rare thing no matter how the footage is. Thank you for posting this classic.
Played music there many times myself. What an honor to play the same town as ABB. Rock on
Are you on Spotify ?
the best guitarist in the world, thanks
Randy Lindsey without a freakin doubt randy!!!!
allman brothers band the most spiritual band ever. Duane should be made a saint
Praise Saint Duane for such greatness!!!
@art:
friends can disagree, i hope. dickey betts was talented, duane was talented and inspired. i would not go back 40+plus years to search a new upload of dickey betts, much as i respect him.
Dickey had the funk chops and Duane had the charisma. They were adored for different reasons imo.
Man a great and true statement.....
Amen the music from that era still lives on today.
Don't forget SRV. Though he came later, he stands next to them where ever the dead greats go...
Duane Allman is Awesome!
The greatest of all time.
yes, for sure!!!
Just saw Gov’t Mule play Mountain Jam last week in Philly. Warren and the guys are still keeping the flame alive but great to stumble upon some live video of the one and only Allman Brothers
Duane was the finest guitar player, muscisian and man that ever lived. He is still alive in the members and fans of the ABB
+Frank Sabatino Amen brother!
it's unbelievable how you can feel his spirit just through his music. Duane lives on and as long as this music is played the Allman Brothers Band will never die.
+Frank Sabatino amazing. dead at 24. 46 years ago. and his playing still stops me in my tracks. such a talent
Frank Sabatino oh idk bout best, best of anything is very subjective&,skydog is in Top 3 for gd sure,he's bout the best on ths night, laying toit son comin outta dtums.holy shit! ..Clapton made it past 27 and he stll wld like sound.Lest we forget jimi who never made 28.Zappa, garcia did. Also dimebag darrell.
I’ll go along with that.
So glad someone got the idea to put this on film at that time. It is indeed a treasure to find this and to see those fingers working their magic on that guitar. What a genius he was and may his music live on forever. RIP DA
There is a lot more from this show. used to be on CZcams but was taken down. It was superior quality to this.
NC's Woodstock for sure! Those hills still echo the sounds of the brothers. Many came, some stayed, still a place like no other. Sure would be cool to see a Allman-Betts show here!
Southern Rock at its finest
In memory of Gregg Allman-5-27-17. Was at this festival, Allman Brothers part of my life, nice to find this video!
Allman Brothers and Duane specifically has been a part of my life every single day since the day I was born in 1981.
Sharing middle names with Howard Duane Allman sort of does that lol. Yes, my dad is the biggest Duane & ABB fan on the planet. And so am I 😁
wow man never saw this footage before Duane still playing the 57 goldtop and dickey still with the sg wow you can see the riff development and where it came from well before the 1971 March Filmore versions.....
thanks man
Barry
I heard this when i was 19 but seeing thisvideo at 69 for the first time is incredible mucho
No wonder where Gary Rossington got his little bird sounds he used on live Freebird. Skydog!
He was one of the few unreplaceable greats!!!
holy mother of christ .......SKYDOG!!!!
Absolutely marvelous watching the master at work, honing his craft.
WE ❤️ YOU, DUANE!
How can this be 48 years ago.It seems like yesterday.I wish I could time travel. I know where I'd go,to this concert.
With the constant focus on Duane's performance....there was a fabulous drum solo that is lost.
So..soooo..Beautiful !
RIP Greg
Man... that's pure gold. Rest in peace skydog, you'll always be remembered. Wish you had lived for couple more years =(
I was lucky to be part of this GREAT Music era---19 yrs. old 1970---
Who knew we wouldn't stay young, and that this wouldn't go on forever?!!
I was 18 years old and there all 3 days...it was a life changing experience
+Alan Hodge id love to hear more about the concert. Any stories? what other bands?
+Joseph Garrahan last year my wife and I went back there I am a journalist and have written several stories about the event and the late andy barker who built love valley and putthe concert on..it was a birthday party for his daughter that got out of hand see if you can access this copy of my paper if not google "Love Valley BannerNews"
+Alan Hodge issuu.com/wayne.kmherald/docs/bn_071614 this is the webpage for the paper and the love valley story
Nice article Alan. Thanks for sharing it.
@@alanhodge8200 great article! Traveling around NC now, may ads to our list! Thanks so much!
What a treasure! I suspect that you already know how much this means - to both people who have seen them, and to those of us who never had the chance, Blessings on ya, Thanks Thanks Thanks! : )
Finally some video of Duane, a first.
Duane is mesmerizing to watch. I didn't want this video to end.
My favorite band! Love this song
Words can't describe how amazing this is! Duane and the boys put the music on a spiritual level..wish i was alive to be a part of this!
matt lough I know exactly what you mean. Even if words fail - it's impossible not to feel the connection and spirituality.
That drum solo is outta this fuckin world!
I was there; hitched hiked from Winston Salem, NC with buddy, Larry Horton. Next time I saw ABB (last time I saw Sky Dog) was in Raleigh, NC on the day Jimi Hendrix died ( 09/18/1970).
Thanks for the video.
Yes, they announced the sad news, in fact Skydog didn't play much; claimed he had a toothache.
He had bad teeth! Drugs did not help with that.
@17:55- Duane starts doing the Nightingale's song- and even Gregg can't believe it!!
July 17th this year will be 50 years. Damn. I'll be there.wish I had been there then.Wish the good video would be released. But thanks for this one Bet I've watch 50 times at least.
What a great stage presence by Duane
Duane lives!
Long long ago, and far far away...
me cousin and I with a few friends, camped out for the weekend.
Love Valley
WOW - what a weekend!
Indeed it was, lots of good vibes...on the stage and up the hill in the trees. I am amazed to stumble upon this footage.
can't put into words how good this is
Thank you for this kick ass version of Mountain Jam & to see it played too, you made my day.
wow, I was there at Love Valley and had no idea there was tape of it.
The ABB were great, playing for hours.
This concert took place about 6 weeks before the Layla sessions with Clapton and his Dominoes....... helluva summer for truly classic rock.
For Allman Brother band fans ,Duanne ,Will be the one , always a leader a great musician Who mirrors others guitarist alive and after he left for another plane ,he is among the 10 Best of all time ,here we see his guitar solo live 🎸🎸🎸🥁🎹
Wail on Skydog. See you in Heaven.
Holy smokes! That’s amazing!
Nobody came to this world like Duane...Most beautiful 3 minutes
riff starting at 24th minute..
i was there for 8 days. one hell of a festival, stoned out of my mind the entire time . i have an original program called "That Love Valley Thing" for those who don't know Love Valley, it's a tiny western style town where they used to hold rodeos there. nowadays people come from all over the southeast to ride horses there. you can find Love Valley on Google images.
Classic performance of a classic jam number. The world really misses both Duane and Berry.
Oh my Lord. How have I missed this all this time?!? Thank you so very much for posting it! 🙏❤️🎸🍑🍄🎶
Edit: apparently I haven't missed this lol. As I scroll, I see comments I've already liked 😆👍
Allmans were ridiculous good in that era, I was just a kid, glad I discovered em a short time later
