- The Allman Brothers Band kills it with Jimi Hendrix' 1983(A Merman I Should Turn To Be), and their own Mountain Jam at thr Beacon Theater
RIP Gregg and Butch 2017 - Hudba
Possibly the most underrated rock song of all time.
The greatest jewel of the Hendrix catalogue. Masterpiece, especially hearing Jimi sing his heart out.
My favorite Jimi Hendrix song of all time!
it's one of those songs that, in order to appreciate them, you need to be a musician
Totally agree brother Big Dave!
This song on Jimi's Electric Ladyland album takes me on trip below the surface of the sea
Didn't know the Allmans did a cover of this. This is my favorite Hendrix tune. I practically wore out side 3 or Electric Ladyland in High School.
me toooooo!
Definitely the best of Hendrix music ever. Surprised this lot had a go at it!!!
Only REAL Hendrix fans know about deep tracks like this one!
Hendrix's Electric Ladyland and the Allman Bros Fillmore East live are my two favorite albums of all time
Wow! The Allman Brothers playing Hendrix. How absolutely incredible.
Warren and Derek seamlessly trade back and forth. Neither is better than the other and together they are untouchable. It isn't a competition between them , but a collaboration. Every musician on the stage is a master. Epicly pure gold.
Hendrix once said to someone intimidated by him something like "I learn something from every person I listen to."
Grateful that this just popped up for me thanks to the algorithm. Great to see many feel the same as I do about this being their favorite Hendrix tune. This one makes me winder where Jimi would have gone musically had he lived.
Love it when artist give justice to a classic song that was so untouchable for many decades. I tilt my hat
Fantastic to hear a live version of this Jimi opus by guys who can do it justice. Thanks guys.
This was really a good cover of 1983...Jimi would be proud...
no doubt
Probably one of the extremely rare songs done as well as can be by anyone other than the master himself!
Another is Voodoo Chile by All Them Witches if you haven't heard it do yourself a favour & when you see how good it is turn some people on to it :D
I agree
ABB in 3 weeks at Interlocken. Saw them for the first time at the Fillmore East in February 1970 (with the Dead and Fleetwood Mac). Still hittin' the note.
How could ANYONE give this a thumbs down? I guess if you are deaf. WTF.
one of the extremely rare songs done as well as can be by anyone other than the master himself!
Very well said. Loved this wow!
I must have watched/listened to this recording every few months for the last 10 years it seems. Gets better with every listen. I miss this band
Covering this could be a disaster for anyone but the best.
Great version guys. Love it.
NO WAY! So cool. This is my favorite Hendrix tune, and Derek is the man... Thank you Lazy...
Why is it when the song is finished I have to start it over again….. such great music by such talented musicians. We lived a golden lifetime of music
The arpeggios in this song are nothing short of spectacular. I had no idea that the Allman Brothers did a cover. It ROCKs.
You brought it back to Life!!!! I cried when I heard Ya'll play this!!!!!
Hendrix Rides Again...Peace To All...
Beautiful!, Jimi is smiling from Walhalla watching this!
God, I love these guys.
I've been listening to them for over 40 years and they still feed my soul.
I remember driving through the mountains with my Dad and hearing Mountain Jam on the radio..
One of the best efforts by Butch Trucks.Today he "Rambled On"...THANKS Butch.
Who else but Warren would think of mashing up these two tunes, and like this? Brilliant. Each points toward then carries you away, away toward something other-worldly. Brilliant also is the interchange between Warren and Derek that commences around the 20 minute mark. The camera work is, ahh, yes, you know what I'm going to say, it's brilliant. It's all brilliant. Brilliant as in it lights my soul, makes me smile. Brilliant! Thanks!
UberJam-Sam! o
yes
His lead vocal is fantastic too. Captured Jimi's spirit of the song.
I'd never heard this Merman song and yet somehow I stayed to hear the entire song. Wow, go figure and it was pretty competent and now a tasty Mountain Jam. Neato.
27 minutes of pure music perfection...Thank-you LL I was so bummed when they took you down. Welcome back!
Just luv it
😎👍👍👍No, way above Great! Absolute Magic! Trucks and Betts!!! Love the setup!❤❤❤
What an awesome line up. I have to watch this again at least once a year.
That was totally fantastic!!! What a combo,,Jimi Hendrix tune mixed with Allman brothers Mountain Jam!!! I'm in ah!!!! That's knowing your music to do that!!! Each one of those guys knows his music!!!! Wow!!!! God bless each one of them . But 2 of them are in heaven with Berry and Duane. Greg and Butch are there also. Keep jamming in heaven guys!!!
When Jimi Hendrix died I was searching for a New band. One night one of my friends said "you gotta check this band out". I said okay. It was The Allman Brothers Band live @ The Fillmore! The next day i went out and bought the first two albums.
So when i heard this I went totally wild! I don't usualy like other bands doing Jimi Hendrix or The Allman Brothers Band. SO THIS IS VERY SPECIAL TO ME!
THIS IS MUSIC!
all i can say is wow....what a band. i hope they play again ala the dead, just another incarnation.
OMG, feeds my soul!!!!
Smashing Brillliant !!!!
Jimi & Donovan ........................
This is so effing genius.I can't describe it in words
The world is a good place! Thank you!!
It must be near impossible to cover such an iconic track like this because comparisons will be made with the original
JH track this will be played in 100 years for future generations to discover, was 67 to 73 the greatest ever period in music?
probably!
yes, with the addition of King Crimson to 75
This and Bold as Love (the instrumental at end lights me on fire) r my favorites. For years now I can’t find Jimi’s 1983 but they kill it and their love for such a hidden gem, raised their stock so much w me! Anyone taking on both an obscure and complex song of his is a new love of mine!!! Sweet who? :)
cant find it? its here on yt been for 8 years
Also my 2 fav Hendrix tunes. And these guys do this song justice
bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a word: wow!
Great job Allman Brothers! I'm just now hearing this in 2021. By the way, I love Crossroads. It makes me cry tears
I've watched this video a zillion times, now and I still laugh when Warren picks up Derek's slide.
Just helpin' out a Brother.
I think it's THE BEST!!!!
Derek Trucks, gets it ! He's a GENIUS! hIS SOUL IS IN IT!
Very nice version !❤ On the studio albums you hear jimis potential .Live is was often a little boring rock show...
The ABB should have started with "Rainy Day/Dream Away" that is the natural feed into 1983........ But, with this version that Jimi, himself, would have loved, its not important :D Oh yes, and 1983 ends with Still Rainin'/Still Dreamin' :p
Feel the same. Rainy Day was a natural lead in to 1983.
This was an extraordinary show, I remember this concert as them being extremely tight as a band they sounded tremendous
Fantastic!!!!
combination of 1983 & 3rd stone from the sun, really beautiful just like the wave of Atlantic
And Donavan "First there was a mountain"
Hey Butch you could use an area rug. C'mon man! In the groove, yeah. ER, sorry Warren. Seriously fun and free from seeking anyone's approval. It's a dreamscape and you take it where you want with that riff. I was 13 in 72 and when I listened to this sometimes, I imagined myself at the top of the hill at Heritage Park with the volume stretching out over the people on the hill, thru the park and into the neighborhood. It was all in my mind but this sound painting as Jimi called it washed over me and all the rest of the people taking us to a blissful place free of any picayune b.s. or bigotry. No gaps. Aah, to be young and to live in that imagination. But it was Jimi reaching for it in his mind transposing it with Eddie Kramer to where, so many years later here is an Allman Brothers take on it. Amen.
Classic B Farmer causally walking by to handle something 3 steps ahead he was...RIP
I’m checking this out April of 2023 and I can’t believe it’s only been viewed 105,000 times! People are missing out.
thank you for putting this back up! One of the greatest jams on tape!
Wooow! 2021-find...One of the best covers of this Jimi-masterpiece...
I can't thank you enough for this. It's one of my go-to's.
Good GAWD this is glorious!
a last Dragon I
one of my favorites, and they did it justice.
I still can't believe that my next show could be the last time I ever get to see them again. That s such a sad thought. I am going to miss seeing them live. Musical perfection every time.
That was AWESOME
Wow what an Allmanific segue I was so Hendrixited when I realized what song they are covering . People at this show were some lucky fans I must say
All I'm gonna say is I met that kid at the Stanhope House when I was a pro musician and he was like 15 or 16. I just sorta ended up there by chance. The talent I saw during his performance was crazy. We hung out out back by their bus for a bit after the show. I talked to him for a good long time, warned him about the Stanhope cops but also got a sense of his old soul. It was a great night, I'd love to buy the kid a drink now that he's way more than old enough. Enjoy this one!
People must have been absolutely losing their minds at this show
Pure Magic !!!
Electric Church Is Now In Session...Still The G.O.A.T 52 Year's Later Everyone Is Still Chasing The Hendrix Dragon...
Many years since I have seens LazyLightning's work - since the Beacon run when Clapton joined ABB. Lazy Lightning - just the best.

Incredible!
Lucky people who were at the Beacon that night. Pretty stunning.
Amazing.
Probably the greatest fusion jam session ever.
11:30 Derek goes off, throws his slide, KILLS EM ALL...Warren picks up the gun...back to work...Pure Smoke...
Welcome back! Good to get some good stuff back!

We were at the Beacon for this. Row a Loge. Whomever shot this had to be close. Had been hoping to find it.........Amazing

Wow! I was wondering what happened to this- thx for putting this back up man! Great video and audio of this! Kudos Lazy Lightning!
amazing jam
Awesome
Great!
More Anthem of the Sun than 1983 - nevertheless excellent.
Ohhh damnnnn so fking great!!!!
I was looking for the Hendrix version of 1983. Unfortunately, the Jimi Hendrix estate doesn't allow his music on CZcams. Sucks. But I am glad because I never would've stumbled onto this jam otherwise. It's great!
Man I hope we can get more of this with the 2014 Beacon run! Not to question whether the Brothers will be outstanding, that's a given but I just hope for us dedicated fans that can't be in NYC we get some videos. Great job LazyLightning55a and we can only hope you'll be in the front row of the balcony for a few of the shows???????
Allman Brothers turning it up!
