    Brunson explosion in the play offs was unexpected and also when luka came back there wassnt really the time to figure out the offense with the two of them better. Given a full offseason with that version on Burson in mind it could have worked bettter but sure Burson still woukdnt have had the room like he has now on thr knicks.
    Lets also not be revisionst because in the season prior to his last in Dallas he was not good in the play offs he really struggled against the size of the clippers.

    • @RGA2341
      @RGA2341 Před 3 měsíci

      correct, the revisionist history doesnt tell you that he literally could not be on the floor against the clippers in the playoffs the year prior to his playoff explosion. The extension didnt make sense to start the season

      @@RGA2341 It's why Brunson's lie that "he would've stayed for $55m/4years" is quite ridiculous when 1. he rejected a contract extension before the 21/22 season began, 2. his father complained that he was shopped before the trade deadline, despite the fact that the reason he was offered to other teams was because his agent asked for at least a 4-year, $72m deal, and 3. the number is suspiciously exactly what DFS' contract extension was that was signed in January of 2022 lol

    Same with young and murray. In a vacuum you have two really good ball handlers, but as there is only one ball so combined they are like 1.5 instead of 2. One the other hand, Harden/Paul worked in 2018 as you had elite pg play for 48 min.

  • @him4882
    @him4882 Před 3 měsíci +11

    I disagree. Maybe not this version but the conference finals year he proved that he could play with Luka and also take over when Luka was out. I think he’s been on a steady upward trajectory ever since. These types of mistakes cost you elite teams and championship runs. Mavs will regret this until the end of time. Not saying KYRIE isn’t great but the match, fit and chemistry with Luka and Brunson was just better.

  • @noblue72
    @noblue72 Před 3 měsíci +3

    There's only room on a team for 1 primary ball handler, so a team is never going to get the most out of both Brunson and Luka at the same time and that's not a knock on either player. I don't even think Kyrie is that great a match for Luka, but he's the best the Mavs can get right now. Mavs really want a star who isn't another guard to pair with Luka but no other team wants to give that kind of player up.

      @pulsed13 Před 3 měsíci

      Dallas offered a contract extension already BEFORE 21/22 season even began, i.e. right after being practically useless against the bigger Clippers.
      Then his father complained that his son was being offered to other teams, RIGHT AFTER Brunson's agent demanded at least a 72m/4year deal.
      Not to mention that 55m value was a lie because that was exactly what DFS signed as an extension in January, so his agent most likely just told him that number to make it plausible.

    What would Kevin Love have looked like going anywhere else?
    Trying to think of other such cases...
    Ron Harper went from 20ppg 1994 to 7 in 1995. Jordan played baseball for most of the year though. I can't remember if Harper was injured or what happened.
    I think it was easier for Kyrie to play with Luka than Brunson bc Kyrie has a ring and he's joining the team.
    Brunson is homegrown and trying to come up under Luka's canopy, so maybe there is some ego there. Kyrie gets to be the guy your team brought in to help you, while Brunson has to be the guy your team will replace you with if you slip up.
    So, it's not a matter of talent, Brunson just had to go.
    Maybe similar to this is Linsanity, Carmelo didn't like that 😂
    It's like, you're not going to do that on MY team, but if they traded for him and he came in his first few games doing this, it's maybe a little easier to ride the wave if you're the incumbent star.

    Cuban has said it and Brunson hasn't denied it......Dallas would have paid Brunson if JB would've let them. Brunson was set on NYK no matter what. He wouldn't even take a meeting with them! To say "Dallas should've paid him" is disingenuous and just flat out wrong.
    Now, you could argue that Dallas should've given him the max rookie extension prior to the '21 trade deadline. You could argue that Dallas shouldn't have structured his contract to not make him a UFA after his fourth season. But to say that Dallas should've paid him? That's just sloppy and embarrassing.
