    So Dea, I use OMS (Gamsol) on all my pics, that's how I blend. I got a dauber bottle. Fill it so the end stays wet but no spills and travels well. I used to use a tortillion but now I use the end of a colorless blender pen that I keep wet with gamsol. Just wipe it off on a piece of paper between colors. I lightly sand it when it needs it. You can pull the nib up to get more use out of it. So now you know my secred.😂😂😂 Great video as always my dear.

      Dea Lenihan I'm lazy I don't burnish....the gamsol lets me blend quickly....I actually look forward to it don't know what endorphins it makes my brain give off but it does 😂I use Le Plume & Prismacolor colorless blender pens. I have tried all sorts of pens (I have others but these are my fav). I just toss them when I wear them down. I pretty much tortillions to blend my pastel pencils. Have you been drawing during the this time of Rona?

    Thank you Dea . I feel that you were very explicit as far as the details where you used these basic tools .I am so happy that you showed us how vital these tools are in so many situations which we have not yet experienced or overlooked .. I personally also need a lighted magnifying glass at times when the details are so minute or overlapping that I have to check the drawings more carefully..lol.I am sure my eyes are partially a factor ... I enjoyed the tips as to the basic types of blenders and how they serve different purposes and effects . I also learnt something new as I never saw a Giottos Rocket before , .it reminds me of a small bellows or nasal aspirator ,. ..lol.

    The Derwent SuperPoint Manual Helical crank shaft sharpener (large size), is also fantastic for pencils of barrels ranging in size up to 9mm, with extendable front plate and self-feeding mechanism, sliding reservoir for shavings, desk clamp if needed and autostop :) (there is a mini version and I've heard it's not as sturdy or good, but it does the job). Its amazing how everyone has their different (and same) 'go to's for art and creativity :)

    I take a sheet of card stock and lay down a swatch of color and then write the name and the number next to it. I have done it with my Copics, all my ink pads, and my colored pencil. That way I can just pull out my "chart" and see what the color looks like before using it on an art project.

    Woooooo 😀I love all these accessories too! Finally- after hearing so much about the Tombow Mono Zero pen erasers, I got both the small round and rectangular ones! In this day and age, where many people are selling 'private label' products and rebranding them (or just stating 'unbranded'), I took a chance and got some 'cheapies' from China on eBay. They were described exactly the same, even the image had 'Tombow' on it, though often they just use that for reference purposes, it just lacked the name 'brand' in the item title. Much to my surprise- they WERE the real deal. I really don't know how they do it, $12 for 2 eraser pens and 2 refills for each (free international shipping). It does pay to shop around and maybe take a risk especially as the 'branded items' - tombow mono zero erasers were ridiculously priced here in Australia (as many things are) - one 'branded' round (2.3mm) mono eraser pen (no refills) was listed at $45+ ?! 😳 if had gone that way, I would have paid up to $100 for the 2 erasers and refills! Very happy Chappy about this 😊 and also love the natural mineral spirits and the Signo Uni-ball Mitsubishi Gel pen. Thanks for this - as you may have gathered from my comments on your other videos, I've been experiencing overwhelm and needing to stop and 'breathe a bit; getting back to some basics and actually taking the time to learn my mediums before 'tossing it in' simply because I kept hearing ' this pencil brand is better; you must have this or that or you won't 'succeed' - of course everyone is different and entitled to what works for them and their opinions but essentially it does come down to us, as individuals as to what we enjoy IF we take the time to understand our mediums and accessories- so, thank you, another great video 🌹lots more to 'binge watch' 🤗

    • @FernCurtis
      @FernCurtis Před 6 lety +1

      mark brown, you mentioned that you use 91% isopropyl alcohol sometimes, normally I just use my lighter colored pencils to blend with, but....have a coloring book that has Createspace paper and I'm finding that I'm having a hard time getting my colors to layer and blend like I'm use to. Do you have any tips for someone who hasn't used such things before? I really don't want to have to break down and buy anything else unless I have to, so if the 91% will work, I'm willing to give it a try!

    Great video! I love seeing other people favorites. My favorite thing is a uni colored pencil sharpener. It's small and just looks like a cheap sharpener but it works wonders. I have been able to sharpen pencils with crooked leads and pencils with problem leads that keep breaking. It makes a small but very sharp point on the pencil. It's hard to find, I got mine on JetPens.

    Great video! funny enough I use the manual cheap plastic or metal sharpeners for my prismas, I found they dont break the core and they are pretty easy to get in any supplies store :)

    I have a suggestion for a video tutorial if you haven't already done one, Dea. I would be interested in seeing how you color animal fur and/or human hair. I should probably go through and check your uploads in case you've already done a fur/hair tutorial.
    Enjoyed the video! I really must get one of those Tombow erasers. I have Pentel Clic erasers and they work great for me, but that Tombow is so slender, it would be really great for getting into tiny spaces. I get a little frustrated when I erase more than I intend because my eraser is a little too big for tiny spaces. Thanks for the great tips. Love my blending stumps/tortillions.
