      Can you guys review the HD Street 500?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před 8 lety +2

      +Okie Rider As the 500 is very similar to the 750, we probably won't have a separate review for it, though of course there's always a possibility. -DrewZilla

      +RevZilla Ok, I guess I'll subscribe to someone else's channel then. Thanks for the quality reviews.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před 8 lety +16

      +Okie Rider The only difference between the 500 and the 750 is the displacement of the engine and the size of the fuel injection port. Everything else is basically the same. Both bikes have the same length, seat height, wheels, tires, engine block, gearbox, gear ratios, brakes, and overall weight. Everything Lemmy said about the handling of the 750 is the same with the the 500. The difference is that because the 500 makes a bit less power, it's a bit slower to accelerate, but it does get a bit better gas mileage than the 750. I apologize that we aren't able to provide a video review for the 500, but I hope this information helps a bit. -DrewZilla

      RevZilla Thanks, for the quick response. Yes, I understand now why you guys don't do the review. But it's like a lot of car/bike reviews on CZcams only show the high-end bikes and/or loaded GMC Sierra 4x4 crew cab SLE pickup. Not every one can afford expensive toys. Lol

      +Rob Vespa You need to visit Revzilla.com more often, and look at the product videos. Lemmy really rocks on hardware videos. Recently did one on changing out exhaust systems on bikes, and wasn't afraid to show off the burn mark under his wrist watch. Ya gotta love the man who also shows his mistakes. You know, Lemmy is one of those guys who you'd expect to ride around in a Hell's Angels (no offense, Lemmy) jacket and be all bad-assed and stuff, but beneath those curly locks of his there is a razor sharp mind and a LOT of motorcycle knowledge. It really comes across on his videos. The man knows whereof he speaks! :)

    Lemmy, you're making me spend more time watching RevZilla CZcams channel than I'm supposed to. Anyway, I think what makes you an effective video reviewer is your long breathe speaking capability, aside from those absolutely quick delivery of opinions and concepts that really matter and are very well thought out. Besides the enthusiasm which I am digging, pointing out good and bad points of the bike in real world riding is awesome. Only thing I thought was missing was how far does the bike go on a tank of petrol.

    Great review. With these already slipping down into the $4-$5K range used, I think I found my next bike. The liquid cooling is a huge deal to someone that has dealt with overheating in traffic on my sportster. I don't want to abandon Harley fully and go to a sport bike so this bike is extremely appealing to me.

    I have had mine for almost 6 or 7 months, and I can tell you YES the engine is awesome, you can do almos 80km/h (about 50mph) in 2nd gear if you want to drag a little and you CAN smoke anything around the 900cc range on "typical" cruisers. The torque is in the mid range but as I said you can keep going and going, I´ve never hit the rev limiter actually. You can easily top the needle at 180km/h (111 mph), the tires are perfect, even on wet is still really hard to skid, and the suspension is long, I mean LONG I took it into a little mountain road, with dust and stones just laying around and it never botomed even while riding with passenger (skiny chick, meh). And YES the footpegs are weird, now i have found the "correct" way to step on them wich is with the heel of the boot hanging and the feet pointing forward (knees out, yes, its super weird but it works better that way), the fuel tank is really wide so you can hug it with your knees if you go into rampage mode. The only bad thing i have found is the crappy back seat the dealership offers (the ugly one they have here with the grill included) and that rutinary services are almost as expensive as the Vrod AND HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO FIND NEUTRAL UNLESS YOU ARE GOING FROM 2ND GEAR, from 1st its virtually imposible. And that thing in the front does not offer any kind of protection from the wind, it should be a little bit taller, m guessing they put it there to hide all the 5yo wirings a little jajaja and if I want to get picky, the seat, I cant help to try to get as far back as i can and Im only 5´10, the tall boy seat is a must if you want to ride long distances. The exhaust is not so bad, when you give it fuel it sounds like a baby vrod, the torquey engine does growl preaty neat mid range. Oh and the throtle guard is horrible, Ive seen better in 150cc scooters, it moves around and makes a plastic noise. BUt for that price, the engine is totally worth it, is a total different feeling than the iron or the japanese bikes, is somewhere between having a little bit of both worlds.

    Just came from a 2018 Street 750 test ride (I have ridden the first model and then this latest one, nothing in between). I have to say, feels like HD watched this video and fixed the bike accordingly.
    It really improved a lot, you can actually hear the "clank" when you shift gear, front brake works fine and the bike has also ABS.
    Mirrors still suck balls but no big deal, and the pipes well... I don't think they are ever going to change that, since the bike is designed for city riding, they don't want it to make too much noise. I think it's a good time to get this bike, for someone who is looking for his frist ever ride, also considering the fact that many other manufacturers have risen their prices... I don't have numbers on hand but, this really must be in the top 5 most inexpensive motorcycles today

    Great review! A few months ago, I had my heart set on getting one of these bad boys for my first bike. Then I test rode it... I completely agree with this review. I couldn't get over how cheap it felt. It handled and had the power but felt cheap. I bought an Iron 883 and couldn't be any happier. I think if you're going to consider the Street you might as well also check out other standard bikes like the FZ-07, Bolt and Iron 883. You get more for your money.

    I'm just about to move into getting my first bigger bike, previously having only ridden a 125 as a learner. I think this is definitely the bike for me, I had a test ride yesterday and loved every second of it. I never had to fight the bike, and the bike wasn't fighting me, it just did what I wanted it to and I always felt completely in control. I want a bigger bike with Harley style but also something not too heavy and cumbersome because living in the UK, really most of our riding is stop/start through towns and roundabouts, with the occasional jaunt up and down a motorway. Thanks for this review it really helped me find the right bike for me :)

      @@biggideal I am about 220lbs and rode this bike at my beginner class. I felt like the brakes were adequate. My girl's Vulcan S out brakes it though, for what its worth. So does every sport bike out there, including the beginner friendly ones like the ninja 400 or r3.

      ***** you get extra brownie points for also telling us how to fix the issues you've found, most reviewers just tell you it has bad brakes, which kinda means it's a bad bike, when $50 could turn it into a great bike.

    Let me start by prefacing that I am a Harley guy and always will be. I have a 2009 Street Glide and just bought one of these as well. The big bikes are amazing for long trips because they are beyond comfortable. But ripping around a major city can suck. The air-cooled engine gets so hot and it's harder to whip in and out of traffic. Try this thing and you will see it is the most fun thing to play on. If you are a new rider this handles beyond anything. Great review Lemmy and amazingly bang on.

    Great review, I just bought a 2015 Street 750. It was a late production bike. My experience with this bike is a little different. I have had no problem with the shifting. Also, I feel like the front brake is Okay well capable of locking the front wheel up. Seems to feel okay to me. I agree that the engine is great. I also agree that the mirrors suck ass. I am 5 foot 11 and do not feel cramped. Your review helped me decide to try this bike out. My Harley dealer let me test a Street 750 before I bought one. I really like this bike and I have been riding since 1978. I have had some real shitty bikes and I have had some really good bikes. This bike is one of the better for sure. Thanks Lemmy.

    You are politically honest, dig your style my man. Excellent reviews in my opinion. What do you think of the new Bonnies?

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar Před 9 lety

      William McDonell Like ***** mentioned, so far I have racked up 73,000 miles on my personal Bonneville T-100. While I have sentimental attachment to it, I am not blind to her flaws. I have spent time on all of the 865cc bikes in Triumph's lineup and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
      Are you looking for a T-100 or a mag wheel Bonnie? Between the two the mag-wheel Bonnie is a bit more fun and flickable with it's 17" rubber up front. I built one out for a friend once with an updated suspension, exhaust, fuel map, flat track bars, CRG mirrors, and a custom seat. The thing handled better than the T-100 or Thruxton and was a blast to rip around on. Made it hard to go back to my T-100. That being said, the T-100 gives you a bit more of a classic styling.
      Both versions are heavy, weighing in around 500 pounds. I like the engine for what it is, a even keeled little twin that makes about 60 ponies at the rear wheel. While it's fun to rip around on and has a really linear power curve, it's not going to be the fastest bike out there. Also, the fact that it's air cooled makes it a pain in the ass when sitting in traffic. Currently residing in Philly, I often miss living in LA where I could lane split freely.
      If you have any specific questions I can answer for you, don't hesitate to ask.

    6 months later, I pulled the trigger. As a new rider I wanted to buy a bike that I felt comfortable on, but there is definitely a stigma that comes with lower CCs. Thanks for proving you don't need the biggest, baddest bike to have fun and look cool doing it. Thanks Lemmy!

      +Mark Graziano Would you recommend it for a new rider like myself that has no experience other than messing around in the woods on a 250 dirt bike with some street riding? I'm 5'10", 180lb, and commute from princeton NJ to rutgers univ for classes which is approx 20 miles, 40 miles total there and back. Will be doing lots of riding through college avenue, which is a very urban area

    Looks like the brakes in this bike are totally shitty and the company is not going to issue a recall inspite of the customers getting into accidents because of the manufacturing defect. In India the customers are protesting and are trying to get the buyers to sign petitions ( www.change.org/p/vikram-pahwa-md-h-d-india-change-we-demand-h-d-street-750-faulty-brakes ) as the company is not responding.

    Great review! Entertaining and informative. For me after the poor brakes the fuel cap disappoints me the most about the Street 750. I was very excited about the motorcycle before I saw it in person last year. Hopefully they will make some improvements in the next year or two.
