The downfall is low fuel capacity and it can be a bit unstable on bumps and high winds but it has a modern throttle response and its mellow until you hammer it from 4k to 9k RPM .. It also has those mid controls but they seem to work well on this frame and give you a good feel ..

    I have owned both of these... sort of. I had a 1977 xs650. Loved it. Sold it in the late 90s. I bought a 2007 xl1200r. I still own the Harley. Two of the best bikes ever made. I ride I-35 between 38th and Georgetown. Nothing but congestion. The 1200 upright seating gives high situational awareness. The power for passing, on-ramps, and stop lights is immediate. It absolutely dominates Austin traffic. And it's neighborhood friendly. I'm tempted to buy the xsr700 to relive my earlier years.

  • @Wabbit1961
    @Wabbit1961 Před 4 lety

    I like that he taught someone on his Harley. Heavy bikes teach you instant respect. I was taught on a 1980's Suzuki GS1100ES (You always remember your first). That was a BEAST! But so much fun and so comfy. I was riding my teacher around as a passenger within 30-40 minutes.
    I like your honesty about the price of a XSR700. I bought a 2019 MT07 for $6,900 OTD cash. Not enough of a difference to warrant a jump of $2k for the XSR.
    I have a perfect beginner bike along with my Ninja 1000. It's a 1986 Yamaha SRX 600. It's just so much fun. Single 6, 5-speed, maybe 40-ish horse power. But it weighs 297lb. wet!
    He's so right about a bike with dual rear shocks. The back sinks in and that's when you know you're having fun.

    As a Triumph Speed Twin owner , yeah a HD Street Rod could appeal, nice big flat torque bands, with the select almost any gear and it pulls characteristic.
    Although the HD is bit heavier, with less displacement and power. Here in the UK the Street Rod is quite a bit cheaper than Triumph's Speed Twin.
    However I love my Speed Twin so much , I doubt I'd ever get rid of it !

  • @texasaggieproud
    @texasaggieproud Před 4 lety +1

    Good video and pretty accurate. I own a '17 Street Rod also with the ABS option and it's also my first real bike. Had two Hondas as a kid (still own one of them too...an '81 CT70 that my dad bought new for me),and because I'm restoring my CT70 and it's technically street legal, I wanted to get my license. The local HD dealer ran a special for $49 that included everything, so I got a taste of all their personal marketing, which is quite genius. Live bands, free food, open bars and events on a regular basis are exactly why these bikes are priced a little higher, and in my opinion worth the lifestyle, so to speak. Guys that look like they want to do nothing but murder you are actually some of the nicest people I've ever met lol. If you've ever owned a boat, then it's very similar as to how nice everyone is. On to the Street Rod....I really like it. It's quite "advanced"when compared to some of the other Harley models. As told in your video, inverted forks, liquid cooled, 6 speed gearbox and adjustable reservoir shocks, plus a higher rev line than the air cooled engines makes this a great choice. And for the morons who say it's not American made? Yes it is. The ones made in India are only sold in India and NOT here in America. I got mine at a steal at year's end in 2018 for only $5900. It was barely used with only 720 miles on it and its got the ABS option. He's right in the video that it would be over $10k new. This is a very underrated bike. I noticed that Harley dropped the Street 500 for 2020 and renamed this model just simply Street Rod (prior years were called Street Rod 750 which confuses it with the Street 750.... very different bikes) which is smart.

Fav of the three was my first, the Evolution Heritage. Driven two dozen more of my friend's Harleys, every make and model before 2004. And I've owned 14 other bikes from Honda and Suzuki to compare this to. First road bike was 78 Honda Twinstar. Drove to school in Jr High School. First scooter of any kind: 70 Honda SL70. I was seven. Still have never owned a bicycle. Had a Nighthawk in the early 90's. Road my buddy's FXR on afternoon. Next purchase was a HD. They are their own animal.

      I have the Original VRSCR Street Rod that was only produced in ‘06 and ‘07 that was based off of the 1130 cc V-Rod. It has 120 hp, mid controls and less rake than the regular V-Rod along with 40 degrees of lean angle. It’s also the first Harley to run inverted forks and Brembo brakes. It’s not a bike for everyone but I love it.

      Roger I'm with you I have an 06 Night rod pretty much all the same as yours except the rake is a little longer than the VROD and street rod I have a feeling these first Gen VRSC models are the best example of the tech from Harley I think though slightly bigger they are just better examples and better bikes than the new line up ..its a shame they didn't catch on better .. I know our models were from the tail end of the chopper era so that hurt them a bit but at the end of the day they are amazing machines I wouldn't sale or trade mine for the world . and man the top speed for a muscle bike cruiser is just amazing.i had mine redlining with gauge saying 150 now I know it probably wasn't perfectly accurate but the dodge challenger it blew by wasn't happy about it lol

    I really like the looks of the srteet rod. I know a lot of harley purists really hate it, but I still think it's a brave shift into a good direction. It doesn't have to mean the end of their 45° V twin bikes. And it won't be. But harley needs to grab a bigger piece of the consumer market in order to remain viable.
    I also love the xsr700 and 900 bikes. The throwback styling to the UJM look is really great. And both yamaha models offer superb engines. The street rod makes good power on paper, but I'd still like to see it make more.
