  • The Omnis Duo is an all-in-one, battery-powered rekordbox standalone device, which includes unique new features. If you're confused about why it doesn't say Pioneer DJ on it, well, there's a new player in the DJ equipment game -- Alpha Theta -- and this is their first product. On this episode of #BeatsourceTech, Mojaxx gives it a full review and explains what's going on with the branding.

Seems to be par for the course on this equipment, with reviews that is. Very soft reviews. I also agree with @darktherapy, had this been any other competitor, it would have been slammed, over price for the missing features, the Hot Cue's only feature, pitch faders, etc. Now, the bluetooth feature is a really nice feature.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery... once again, Denons innovation is making the 'club standard' developer "cough cough" innovate too... Pity this will probably disappear when the monopoly arrives... just like a government without an opposition, the only people who will benefit won't be the general public... and we will pay more for less. The irony is that the industry and those that purport to care about it are the ones who are letting this happen. I know I sound like a stuck record...pun intended lol and very cynical, and I think rightly so... but if I end being wrong, I'll happily eat an entire bakery of humble pie.

As a fan of modular kit where I can use different mixers and use whatever fits the day connected, I really need an update to my XDJ-700's. They are the oldest gear with touch enabled features in the whole lineup of players. It came out just after the first XDJ-1000. Even if the all-in-one's have taken over a lot, small modular players are outstanding in value. Not only are they extremely light weight and can be used in any combo of gear, but in case there's a mixer in place, or I want to extend the existing 2 player setup to a 4 player setup, I only need to bring the players which fits in a backpack and weighs in around 3 kg's. Obviously as seen on the Omnis Duo,, they can pack a lot of the new features in to that 7 inch screen. I bet they could fit an 8'' high res screen within the same frame as the old 7''. On a single player, that would be quite enogh even for my old eyes. I have the Mixstrem pro, and the 7'' is a tad bit too small for all the info needed, which means some stuff have very small fonts, and I have to use my hated reading glasses to comfortable see what's in front of me. Never need that with single screens.

@@afursedon For that pupose you can use the old XDJ-700's if you want mechanical jog's, or any other HID compatible player. For me it's the internal software that needs to be updated. I never do and never will use a computer as a DJ, except for preparations. When the XDJ-700 came out 8 years ago the features were similar to the CDJ-2000 Nexus, which still has the foundation of digital Dj'ing, but a lot has happened in 8 years, not the least the speed of loading tracks with a lot of meta data, and to handle large libraries of music without lag. Also the screen tech has devoloped a lot, so an 8'' high res touch screen should be very possible to implement without to much trouble or higher cost. I don't need every feature of the CDJ-3000's, but if I can get a 700Mk2 similar to the XDJ-1000Mk2 vs CDJ-2000NXS2, but with less buttons, I would be very happy. Price for the pair could be close to a XDJ-RX3, and I would order a pair the minute they were announced. I have plenty of 2 & 4 channel mixers to use for different situations..

I like your explanation of the whole pioneer alpha thing. 2 channels would be fine if you could also layer accapellas and loops within each deck. Why isn’t such a simple thing possible? It Would make this and the RX3 so much more attractive too. I think most people rarely need more than 2 decks but just want the added creative flexibility that this would provide.

    • @djmartinsk
      @djmartinsk Před 5 měsíci

@@robertschnobert9090 This feature is not hardware related. This ability can be implemented without any problems even with the 4-year-old Denon Prime GO. This capability can be implemented by changing the firmware - the Engine OS software. No new hardware is needed at all (Prime GO2, or Prime GO+).
But it doesn't make much sense on the Denon Prime GO. Prime GO has powerful and smart streaming options (Tidal, Beatport, BS, SoundC). The entire song from the streaming server goes to Prime GO's dedicated buffer instantly, within seconds. Up to 250MB audio file size from streaming server. Track is complettely analyzed (BPM, Key, Waveform, ID tags, Beatgrid etc.)
The song from the BT input on Omnis, goes into the buffer memory only while playing from BT source. A few seconds before the audio is routed to the Omnis Duo's main audio output. Max. 10 minutes (50MB)
Basically, Prime GO doesn't even need BT input. Despite this, there will be BT input on Prime GO as well. I believe very soon.

This controller cannot be compared with the Denon Prime Go for at least one reason: Denon has a link port and can be used together with various other devices. In addition, it has a high-quality professional-level audio path. It’s not clear how things are going with this in Alpha Theta. But it is known that in recent years Pioneer preferred to spend more on marketing, saving on high-quality hardware. I wonder if there is at least a function to change the key of a track during its playback?

    • @willpolr

Nonsense. Of course it can be compared. Only some folk want to link things. Regardless it’s a total legitimate comparison. I could say the Go can’t be compared because of its ridiculously small jogs. There wouldn’t be much point comparing things that were the same would there.

I don't think it is a competitor to the Denon Prime Go as InMusic cannot make a controller that lasts, I have been through 3 Rane One's, the external build quality is great don't get me wrong but the upfaders are crap and appear to be from the Numark Parts Bin. Also what is it with removing all the external controls and putting them into a Touchscreen, do you realise how much of a pain in the arse that is, I hate the Mics are on a touch screen for the EQ, also the effects etc. Sorry this is not for me, they urgently need to do a update on the XZ and also address the latency issue with Serato (no my laptop is not crap and it works perfectly with other controllers, the XZ there is a slight latency which drives me crazy)

Adding streaming services on Pioneer/AT gear is not as easy as it sounds, they’ve never done it on any unit, even the top gear opus quad.. (only CDJ 3000 has Beatport streaming I think).
It requires to build track analysis features on the device, meta data management (cue points, loops, rating, tags..) for tracks which aren’t stored locally, and probably many other features that simply don’t exist on pioneer gear today. I think that’s why it’s taking so long.. but of course the Engine DJ software already has all of that so they probably should get going asap…

I said this elsewhere and I believe it's worth mentioning here. It's too expensive given the international market conditions. Meaning, shipping cost have stabilized (ocean transportation, import fee's (duties and taxes, etc.), manufacturing (overseas) cost are actually down, not to mention labor cost overseas is still criminal compared elsewhere.
If AlphaTheta is charging a premium price for this equipment, it's because it's their "flagship Name Brand" and nothing else. It's going to be interesting to see what additional products they come out with and hopefully they will be fully integrated with all the items MoJaxx mentioned.
I honestly believe they rushed to get this out with the hope that someone like MoJaxx, Cleveland Terry and Nick Spinelli would hype this up. I believe they believe it's a great product and I also believe they know it's missing, as MoJaxx said, features now that may have to wait for a firmware update.
