AlphaTheta Omnis Duo Review - Sleek All-In-One With A Trick Up Its Sleeve!

  • The AlphaTheta Omnis Duo is a battery-powered compact all-in-one DJ system in the Rekordbox ecosystem, slightly larger than its only obvious competitor, the Denon DJ Prime Go. It does the basics very well, has a neat Bluetooth trick up its sleeve and is undeniably desirable, but no access to streaming services and no key shifting option take the shine off it at launch a little - things that’ll hopefully be added down the line. As a neat “lifestyle” all-in-one unit, and as second system for mobile DJs, it will likely do well.

Great review Phil as usual. Price is a bit ambitious, i think even $1000 would be a push for this. It feels very consumer with a pro price. Will be interesting to see what Numark do next as it looks like a mixstream pro with a bit of added functionality.

Nice to see innovations coming in from Alpha Theta. The Bluetooth input, usb-c charger and looks are welcome! As for the rest I think the 4 year old Denon Prime Go does mostly better. You'd think Alpha Theta would be able to do better than play catch up after 4 years and for +500 euro.

If you won't compromise on having technicals at hand, you probably won't settle for any gear in this implicitly compromise-making market spot in the first place. If ever I have any concerns over a unit or unanswered questions, I always get the answers from your videos. I've got the OG numark Mixstream and I'm more than happy with it, and even 3 years later they're still updating it and making it more useful and current. It's a good starting point and a great launch product for their "new" brand (yes I know it's not a new brand per-say, but to most of us it is). It's worrying though in a way, because their previous controllers have been carbon copies of studio and club standards, and people get used to using them. This is like nothing else on the market. Even the DDJ 200 and DDJ 400 are similar in layout to other pioneer gear.

Nice review Phil. At first glance it looks like they took the design of DDJ-400/FLX4 and made it standalone, which I quite like for it's simplicity. But that price point is a hard sell when Mixstream Pro Go and DJ Prime Go sits easily under that. It's also close to the cost of a XDJ-RX3, which packs quite more features, but less portable.

I love the look, the size and almost everything about this unit. BUT..
Twice the price of a Mixstream Go with less features and an extra monthly subscription.. come on Pioneer. Give use something disruptive like the DDJ-1000 again. The only reason would be the existing rekordbox support which is using a different file format as well.. At this price point it’s very hard to consider.
This will push Denon even more I’d assume. More competition is always great and I wont be surprised if Denon will push it’s own bluetooth update on all Engine OS devices sooner than expected.

In summary, it consists of theoretical words and opinions. It would be more useful for everyone if you were to test this product in the field, using its features concretely, pointing out any flaws, and comparing its actual qualities (not the theoretical ones mentioned in the user manual) with those of similar-grade controllers on the market, including some Pioneer DJM mixers. While keeping it simple, it still lacks the versatility that the Denon Prime GO offers out of the box.
