    This is exactly why Laidback Luke's channel deserves a mention if you're summing up DJ channels for people to watch. This guy is trying to break boundaries and conventions in an industry that has for too long been stuck in a Pioneer deadlock. And weather he succeeds or not, it's just fascinating to follow.

      LBL branding on the kit would say otherwise. Many DJs collaborate with manufacturers. I don't see them actively fronting and pushing their products to this level. I for one have been using Reloop products since 2005 and they've been around longer, Mr. LBL is only now "discovering" how hot the brand is? I mean come on, lets see through the veil of corporate sponsorship please and call it what it is. But lets check back on this comment in 1-2 years time and see what company he's promoting next. @@Drrolfski

    Luke is such a genuine and honest person. Yes I had my reservations on the price of the unit but after watching this I have totally changed my mind. I am excited to refresh my sets by trying this unit out with DJay Pro and the stems side of things. As a DJ of 25 years this could be the thing that renews my interest.

    Hey Luke. Dan from DJ Techtools here. Lots of respect for you even before this - and putting yourself out there and pushing something that you like to use is awesome. If you see this, I'm curious: would you consider or desire using a modular setup with _more_ controllers than simply the Mixtour? It feels like, while you've found a great controller and mixer, that a lot of the other controls are cramped on this unit.
    Many, many DJs have used modular setups for years where they solve that problem by adding additional, similarly portable devices (ie: X1 + Z1; Faderfox + Midi Fighter 3D; The DDJ-SP1 for control vinyl DJs) . Do you desire more space for controls, or are you 100% happy with one small unit and absolutely nothing else?
    As a cheeky addendum, the Midi Fighter Spectra and Twister both have Algoriddim djay mappings. let me know if you;'d like to try either.

      Sure there’s versatile compact set ups and jamming out with a midi fighter, but I think after developing a little muscle memory from extensive practicing, and with this tiny mixer’s footprint and a phone it is the most portable package for playing, with the amazing affects that there it will provide enough of a pro performance. Whether plug into the desk at tomorrow’s land or just at the beach whipping out the phone and a mixtour pro, a power bank and a Bluetooth speaker and you’re good to go, anywhere!

    Well, I can relate what Luke is saying, 10 years ago I was mixing using Ableton Live, just for fun for other reasons I stop djing and now I want to come back but I didn’t want to come back to Ableton and also I don’t want to buy all the gears because I have no space in my small house. So this is precisely what I’m looking for small controller that is able to control 4 decks, I can’t use my iPad, connect to a music source like beatport or beatsource and enjoy. I’m not a professional and I don’t want to be a professional, just enjoy mixing like I did when I was in high school, so I’m looking forward to buy the Mixtour Pro, can’t wait.

    Around 9:30 when you’re talking about remembering to turn your phone on do not disturb, it reminded me that iOS has a per-app setting where you can make specific apps trigger DND automatically when you open them! I set djay to do this and it works fantastically well. You just have to also make sure your DND focus settings are calibrated to block all incoming notifications. So, it requires a bit of initial tinkering but once it’s set up it’s rock solid!

    Everything that LBL said about Denon DJ a few years back is what sold me on getting Denon gear. He sold me on the whole Standalone song n dance, being untethered, no more Serato face and how that was the future. Fast forward a few years and being tethered to an iPhone & squinting at a 6" screen is the future now? So it's just a coincidence how the narrative changes depending on the manufacturers you happen to be partnered up with?
    He's mentioned that he requested certain things from Denon which they declined & they went their separate ways because they were going in different directions. Well if you're the poster boy for Denon and you're out n about using DJay Pro on Denon hardware instead of Engine... well if that isn't a conflict of interest idk what is. Why would they cater to him or anyone else for that matter. I'm assuming he requested that Denon manufacturer a gizmo to control Djay Pro & they declined which makes sense. I would've done the same if I was Denon because he did mention that he requested stems from Denon which they have implemented since he left so I think it's safe to assume he left because Denon didn't want to make the gizmo which Reloop manufacturered.
    He's also said he didn't want to work within the confines of "Industry Standard bubbles & proprietary operating systems". Correct me I'm wrong but isn't iOS a proprietary operating system? Algoriddim sure as hell aren't catering to Android users & last I checked, even the Windows Desktop version didn't get the bells n whistles that MacOS did. So basically it's the future...as long as you're using an Apple product which totally contradicts his proprietary jargon.

      There may be a degree of being a mindshare mercenary, but I think you gotta ignore the cult of personality and look moreso at what each of the vendors offer you as a dj as a set of tools. What’s the best tool for the job for the specific kind of job or task you want to do? It’s that more vendor-agnostic approach I’m supportive of, and see myself using a combination of different peripherals to do the kind of DJing I want to do.

    • @MarkPohlmann
      @MarkPohlmann Před 5 měsíci +1

      completely agree with this statement. reloop gave him the chance to become the poster boy of an iPhone first dj-generation, and he took it. i totally understand that and congratulate on the opportunity. but it's just as clear that he would never take to a festival's stage with a cinch-based controller if it didn't have his name on it.

    • @MarkPohlmann
      @MarkPohlmann Před 5 měsíci

      @@rainermartin905 yeah. Balanced cables like XLR have two conductor wires and a ground wire, whereas cinch is unbalanced and comes only with one conductor and a ground wire. The extra conductor on balanced cables is what makes it possible to significantly reduce noise in an audio signal. Now I ask you: which would you choose as a professional?

    - Djay app is open.
    - I'm near the location where the club where I work in is. This is helpful in case I plug in the phone via RCA and I'm playing on Spotify a song that I don't have in my downloaded library.

      This! The more people are thru technology becoming irelevant and less skills is required, the more people will want to se "artists" do actualy something, not the AI / robots. Same with concerts, nobody wants to see a playback guitarist, drummer or singer on stage... we want to se them play live, with using their hands on actual instruments and using their vocal cords. There are very little djs who use the new technology in a inovative and refreshing way. But also the crowd don't even care or recognise in most cases those things.

    The sound quality on all these mixers, gadgets etc is below industry standard of what has been in place for decades. Cirrus Logic chips have different levels of quality, everyone is using these chips because the AKP burned down, AKP also had different levels of quality on chips, from Akai to whatever you see use a lower grade spec converters, if they want to use proper high grade AD/DA its costs money. Imagine you work in your studio and have great converters, you spend the money and put the time and only to hear through less quality product, I am beginning to wonder why so many DJS keep touching the EQ. Vinyl records cost $12 to $15 for single and full length double album costs $34.99, so yeah vinyl is making killing for artist, not spotify,beatport, etc etc. If you have been producing records for the past 10 years you been listening to music on the worst format every in existence, ipods, your computer, phone, lame $99 setups from walmart, no artist makes the money they use to for actually making songs, everyone is now just pitching gear, this might not make sense to the younger generation now, but you will know in the future. Sound matters, the people who own Dennon are the same people who own Akai, they destroyed those companies because of Ego. Pioneer for now is still keeping up with proper sound quality, advice to you all, if you serious about your music and sound don't buy units that everything in one place, they eventually will show their ugly head. This is nothing about the company for LBL, LBL is super talented and love his work, it is time for people like him to talk about sound, just look how the hip hop community is finally calling out manufacturers for selling toys and calling them samplers for under $300. DJCITY your videos are the best because you do understand so many workflows and you understand sound.

      Pioneer use the Cirrus Logic DAC's and Denon use the ESS Sabre DAC's which are 32bit. Personally i have always found the Denon kit sounds better.

    • @dubmaverick69
      @dubmaverick69 Před 5 měsíci

      @@dj_paultuk7052 Thank you for this info, there are many tiers in DAC quality from Cirrus Logic and ESS Sabre, the bit depth matters but the manufacturer can ask to have the chip have a certain specs and this is where the problem stems from, and depends what the design of the product is, and as one engineer explained, "are they doing the math to get the best results". All these companies from top to the bottom have access to the same parts and they can have it made anyway they want, it comes down to the design, the quality of components and in high end converters the clock. The chip company AKP that burn down in 2020, literally had 15+ chips I counted with totally different spec, most of these companies use the middle tier or below. Can you imagine if Moog or Sequential or Yamaha(montage, motif) used medium tier DACs ? They would not dare to do so because pro musicians would hear it right away and with capabilities that those keyboards have, you would hear the difference. This is why so many people are pissed at Akai, they have a great work flow but the most horrible converters for what it does, and if there was no problem, Black Lion would not be offering a service to update them, it still does not sound as good as it should, it is a design flaw, extremely sad story because Inmusic is just gobbling up whatever they can, they destroyed Akai, Alesis and Moog is next. Dennon is in there group as well, they killed off that great Rane rotary mixer. Behringer 2.0 is what they shooting for.

      Maybe the point is that CDJs / controllers are imitations of turntables. Why? Why imitate a turntable to play digital files? I get it for scratch DJs, but not so much anybody else. You could carry two of these, a couple of phones and you’d have a primary system plus a backup all in a small backpack, all for not much money.
