    Excellent review! I appreciate the time you put into testing the Mixon 8 Pro and the time you took with us to break everything down. There are newer, shinier toys that are out now, but though delayed, I think this controller proves Reloop's dedication and abilities to make cutting-edge products (even if it wasn't still cutting-edge when it finally shipped). As an Algoriddim djay Pro AI for Mac primary user, this controller has been my daily driver since June, and I've loved it. I also truly appreciate its build quality, and though it doesn't seem right when compared to two turntables laid out battle-style with a mixer in the middle, I really like the mirrored play/pause, auto loop, pitch faders, etc. I'm not sure how quick Reloop will be to make a new flagship controller, but this one truly gets it done. The only areas I can think to add would be "MKII" type enhancements such as moving platters, album art/track info on the displays, USB-C ports for computers, on-board FX, etc. While this isn't the freshest-looking controller on the market, it's worth it for anyone to look at as it's well-thought out and shows Reloop's attention to detail and sensitivity to DJs' needs. (Keep in mind this was designed prior to Serato STEMs.) Thank you again. This video was well worth the wait!

    I keep coming back to rewatch this video again and again. I'm torn between a Rane 1 and a Reloop Mixon 8. Neither one are my 1st choice but want something that works with DJ Pro and since options are so limited that's where I'm at. They're both about the same price but the quality of the Rane seems to be much better than the Reloop. The Reloop almost looks cheap, sort of plasticky and toy like vs something that looks more professional duty like the Rane. I was trying to wait it out in hopes they released some new supported hardware but I don't know if I can wait any longer and I can't decide which one to get lol

    Thanks for the review. This may be a really good option for me. I've been leaning toward the FOUR, due to stems and on-board effects; but this checks most of the boxes for features, but mostly for extra "mappable" buttons. I custom map boards to make my on-set workflow as easy and brainless as possible, and so my next concern was build quality - which you answered. I have no issue with the mirrored format, it's how most of us learned anyway. Super pleased to see that this may be the value buy of the year.

    Thanks for your great honest review. I bought this couple of months ago. I moved from Traktor as I was fed up of their lack of development. I use the Mixon 8 with a 12.9 iPad Pro on an adjustable stand that I bought. I can get the angle that suits me.
    Djay pro Ai also has really simple but powerful mapping capabilities. For example I have mapped shift headphone cue on each channel to change from eq mode to stem mode. I’ve mapped effect buttons to be able to scroll effects. When browsing tracks I’ve mapped ability to preview track with fast forward and rewind. In stems pad mode similar to serato I’ve mapped ability to effect stems for example echo out vocal. Another big one was to mep separate stems so on one deck instrumental and other acapella, which is really cool for scratching the acapella ( I just need to learn to scratch). Few other cool addons also. This for me is such a cool controller and working with iPad or phone is just nuts. I love it. Can’t wait though for stems 2.0. Then this will be the one to beat. Peace.

    The biggest, and only problem in my opinion, is that the knobs in the mixer are not lit in any way and if you are working in it is NEARLY impossible to see where the knobs on the eq, gain and filter are at-- i know, I know Chrima Caps will fix that but it was a REAL PAIN until I got around to getting a new set. I really dig this controller otherwise and I love the djay integration!!

    Great review. I just bought one…coming from the BeatPad 2…but thought about gear up. So I am a Djay Pro/Ipad guy…so this board will probably suite me perfect. A feature that probably does not exist…is to run both USB ports with iPads and make them work together…like having functionality like the play list on one of them and the djay pro app on the other one. :-)
    Also that the stems seems to move away from streaming media like tidal will make life a bit harder in the future…

  • @DJNeerav
    @DJNeerav Před 5 měsíci

    Excellent review, Terry. I was considering this controller briefly but went for the FLX10. My biggest problem with this unit is:
    a) I find it’s too fugly (short for ‘visually unappealing’ 😅)
    b) no coloured info on the jog wheel screens
    c) no direct (labelled buttons) control over FX on stems?
    d) no USB-C for laptops
    Like many on here, I respect Reloop and want to like this. But I just can’t get behind it; it already feels dated.
    Release a new full featured model, with a nice layout, and proper on board displays (Rane 4 meets FLX10?) and I’m all in.

    All these years later and It's interesting how Pioneer created the template for large controllers with the DDJ-SX just as Technics created the template for turntables back in the late 70's with the SL-1200MK2. Everything that followed copies those designs. Nothing wrong with that, just interesting that you never know what new thing will become the standard!

      If you are going to mention the SX, you have to mention the Vestax VCI-380 as well. That was the first controller to feature the 8 pads per deck layout we see to this day. It's like with a car. The steering wheel and pedals can only go in certain places, or it doesn't make sense.

      The Vestax VCI 380 came to market first and was the first controller with 8 pads. The pads were RGB and the platter had adjustable tension and platter lights. But yeah Pioneer put the pads on the bottom.

    I know I have a sort of niche product with the Roland DJ-505 and I'm not planning on changing it for anything else (especially because I only have it since July 2023), but how does the Reloop Mixon 8 compete against the DJ-505 in terms of the jogwheels and the drumpads ? I'm not talking about the TR-S on top of the DJ-505, that's why it's a niche product (I use it sometimes while mixing, but mostly while producing). I would like to know the difference between the jogwheels and the drumpads/touchpads.
    Personally I kind of do not like the little screens in the jogwheels.

      Roland was ahead of its time with that board. Not sure why they didn’t make a updated one but its still good as long as it has no bugs in 2023. As to answer your question The only main difference besides size no cue points on the platters. But im pretty sure you can scratch on both just the same you just have to look at a cpu with 1.
      But hold onto that device it has a lot of features that they using now on much more expensive boards.
      I still use mines and want to change but don’t see anything currently better for me and my needs/requirements.

    Time is truly of the essence. The window where this unit had some buzz is shut. From the time that they unveiled this unit till now, so much has evolved as far as the competition that it's up against that it's become antiquated before it got out the gate. As far as Stems go, Serato & VDJ have advanced to the point where Neural Mix isn't even in the rear view mirror & they've allowed RB & Engine to catch up. Which is why I find it a bit odd that DJs such as Laidback Luke have adopted it as their go to citing it as the "future" when it isn't even current in the Stems landscape but I digress.
    The mirrored layout isn't my preferred workflow but isn't a deal breaker either. I got used to it via various Numark controllers circa NS7 II & NV but the majority of folks either love it or hate it which isn't a good look for Reloop.

    • @anthonygato407
      @anthonygato407 Před 8 měsíci +1

      for progressive house djs the stern method of mixing is not it. the tracks are more produced and nuanced. the bassline evolves and intertwined with the atmospherics as is the vocal. maybe a legit producer will execute stem mixing adequately but most prog djs will sound crap trying to mix and match baselines or put one tracks vocal in another track, ect.

I have 2 laptops with 16 GB RAM and 500 GB SSD s and good processors. Although i created a ticket to reloop they didn't manage to replicate the bug so i returned it. 2-3 seconds of complete freeze with silence is not ok. You should test the switch between USB. 😊

    Giving up 2 channels for Mics is a no no. That's the reason why i moved away from the Pioneer DDJ-SX's. If you're selling a 4 channel controller, it needs to have it's own Mic section. This controller reminds me too much of the DDJ-SX, and that's over 11 years old.
