  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro pickup is Toyota's newest and most off-road worthy full-sized truck. Of course the very same thing could be said for the 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. So which one is the better off-road truck. We took both trucks into the Colorado Rocky Mountains for an exclusive TFLtruck Matchup review.

      Cezar W i believe the older model 4.7l v8 that toyota had in their trucks around 03 or 04 had a faulty crankshaft which literally snapped in half on a lot of them thus why you dont see many on the roads still. if i buy a truck i stick to domestic brands. no specific loyalty.

      @johnnymossville Před 10 lety +6

      CACressida The TRD is mostly a half hearted attempt to please the Toyota truck owners who secretly drool over owning a Raptor. The TRD is a really nice truck, but they didn't go the extra mile Ford did with the Raptor.

    • @CACressida
      @CACressida Před 10 lety +5

      Ford didn't go an extra mile, they went an extra 10 miles. Ford sells enough units to produce the Raptor without getting beaten up by the EPA where the Tundra doesn't. Also, the cost of engineering a Raptor fighter wouldn't be feasible since they don't even sell enough Tundras to make enough profit off the model to design something like the Raptor. Yes, we know Toyota is filthy rich but they still run a business but they didn't get rich making crazy products. I would love to see a Tundra Raptor fighter because we know Toyota can do it but it's not going to happen.

      XiAmFAUSTX I'm uninterested in purchasing a truck, let alone pricing. I still find that Toyota is overpriced, even used models. I'd sooner buy a used F150 than a used Toyota pickup for 10K more. You just need to do your research before buying. Last pickup I purchased was a Chevy as the Ford F150s for those years, which had the 3 valve per cylinder engine, had issues with cylinders/pistons/injectors failing.
      I see where you're coming from but I think some of what you're saying is from skewed data.

    The raptor is pretty good and looks cool and all but to me it's just seems like a useless toy. The main purpose of the Raptor is desert racing/Baja and the working capabilities of the truck are removed, yet the Tundra TRD PRO, mainly a work truck with some factory offroad goodies, beat the Raptor at its own game in the Baja 1000, the main thing the Raptor was made for. Plus the problem with the Raptor's frame bending and damage after taking them to desert racing and the widen stance on them creates premature bearing wear and other suspension component wear.

    Finally an honest review and no 0-60 race. This is a ones persons review and you don't like. He didn't knock the raptor or give it a bad review. He gave review on an overall truck, going to the store, driving in traffic and so on. The raptor may be able to jump higher and further than the Toyota, but Toyota's are solid and I will buy toyota with no hesitation based on quality and reliability. Wildman when you write a review like the one you posted you show everyone who you really are.
    People today are buying trucks based on fitting in with their friends have one.

    Great review! You covered all the bases very well with just the kind of information I was looking for. I'm more than happy if the TRD Pro can do most of what the Raptor can do, while it can best the Raptor in most real world, truck, day to day duties. Like you mentioned, a lift of just a couple inches with a better tire and wheel package and it would be perfect. If I want a hardcore rock crawler I'll build one and tow it easily with the TRD Pro. Never owned a Toyota before but I think this one will be my first. Something you didn't mention is Toyta trucks stellar reliability which Ford, Chevy and all the rest would do well to shoot for. Resale of toyota trucks is better than the competition as well.

As to how it can be improved, weight reduction i.e. aluminum, improved torque, new suspension are some of the things that could have been improved. Keep in mind that the raptor is not the most capable off-road truck, that would be the power wagon.

    I don't care for that really wide c-pillar on the Tundra. And I realize that I might be in the minority here, but I just do not understand why full-size pickup trucks have gotten to be so huge. When I look at these newer trucks and compare them to a 1976 GM...well, it just seems ridiculous. Some of these things are now more than eighty inches wide. And while they all seem to get taller, wider, and longer every year, they are all trying everything under the sun to improve their mpg ratings. It just seems counter-productive to me. But it isn't just the full-sized pickups, my ex-wife and I bought a 2006 Toyota 4Runner and a few months later I saw an older 4Runner parked next to us. Ours was HUGE compared to an older model. A new Tacoma is probably almost as big as a late seventies model Ford or Chevy half-ton. One of my favorite cars was a 1988 Dodge Raider, it was manufactured by Mitsubishi and sold by Dodge. It was a first generation Montero and it was a great 4X4. It had a 4-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission. I miss the sport utilities of that generation. It was plenty big enough. Thank you.

    If you are looking for something that can tow more and is more streetable, then get an FX4 with the Ecoboost (or the same 6.2L you get in the Raptor). IF that is what your looking for it will easily out tow a tundra, and still beat it in a drag race. To say the Tundra is "better" on the road is splitting hairs because the Raptor still handles better than most vehicles on the street, but it is PURPOSE-built for offroading....so why is it really an accomplishment for Toyota's offroad offering to be better on the street?

    Quick summery from a non fanboy of either, Raptor for higher speed desert runs with some crawling. Power wagon for crawling and going thru more crap, as well as towing. Maybe a rescue vehicle, TRD Pro for a combination of all this with everyday usage. GM's for less off road more street usage or long distance driving, or just buy your brand of choice cause you can change and make any of these into the truck you need with money.

    Hey everybody thought i would throw in my two sense! I own a 2006 Toyota Tundra the 4.7l v8. Its my daily driver and my work truck. Im a landscaper so i tow an 18' landscape trailer with equipment daily. it has 180,000 miles on it. Im not for or against any car company. My comments are from almost 8 years of use. The truck has performed beyond my expectations. The only repairs have been the usual maintenance items…wear and tear. Brakes, timing belt, oil changes, i replaced a couple of the nobs on the dash and a bushing on the driveshaft. Runs and sounds like the day i drove it off the lot! when it does kick the bucket guess why my next truck will be:)

      I would have said Loyal, and rightfully so. Race has nothing with a Truck's Quality. I'm a longtime F-150 owner, great trucks. I bought the Tundra because I didn't want a 6 cylinder, and because of reliability reputation. Ok, maybe because it's a very strong, fast truck. But's going to be tough to beat the 2008 F-150 still in my driveway for reliability. 200K, + still running strong ! NO Problems , regular oil changes, every 5000, with synthetic Castrol. Great trucks ! I still like slapping the Tundra's pedal to the floor though......Think I'll keep it, K&N, TRD exhaust, what's not to like ?

Few weeks later another buddy of mine bought a 2015 4Runner SR5 with 4WD took it on the exact same roads/ trails that we made by just driving and the 4Runner took the trophy home. For the money that was spent on the Ford it's a dam shame it could only stay on paved roads and I'm sure it can go through snow as long as it stays behind a plow .

  • @olderwiser2080
    @olderwiser2080 Před 6 lety +1

    I've owned Toyota 4x4s for 25 years. This time, I went with a '18 SR5 4x4 (~$37K), then bought a set of nice wheels and tires, Bilstein 6112 coilovers adding 2.5" level, and the TRD dual exhaust system. Hanging all the parts myself, I spent another $4K, bringing the total to ~$41K. Both these trucks are too big for tight, technical trails. Mine is a daily work/toy hauler, as I do most of my off-roading on 2 wheels these days. Hauling street and dirt bikes, having a 40"+ tailgate height would suck for loading/unloading. I didn't hear a cost comparison, but I'd be surprised if you could buy a new Raptor for less than $20K over what I have in my truck. Ford not only loses in build quality/durability, but gets their ass kicked in resale all the way to the bank. Ford's the "king" in sales? It helps when you'll finance anyone with a pulse. ;)

You guys are two of the biggest idiots on you tube.
    The bench Mark in off road racing is Toyota assholes. Guys like you talking the b.s. gets people who know off road racing very upset .When people like you have no idea what you are talking about. Why didn't you mention all the bent frames on the Raptor when people used them off road . How much did Ford pay you to keep that out of your review. Off road is Toyota they have over 304 victories. And over 28 factory wins. In the most gouging races in the world. You really should look at the history of of the off road racing. Take two years off. And learn something and then put you show on . Maybe then you will be able to give a fair review .

    If Toyota sucks so bad why does the U.S. special forces prefer using tacomas over anything the big 3 have to offer? Why does the U.N. and Golf war troops use land cruisers? Why do Arabs in Dubai use them as off road vehicles? Why is the value of my 2 year old 4runner better than anything comparible from ford? Because they're reliable, safe and have a helluva off road heritage. I've owned both ford and Toyota products and I can say with 100% certainty that ford sucks! Their suspensions squeak, rear ends droop, transmissions don't last and their customer service is horrendous. Ford builds it's crap in mexico while the Toyota is built in America. So stop being fan boys and wake up! Toyota will redesign the tundra for 2016 and offer a diesel engine while the "new" f150 just ads extra Sunday football commercials.
