    I really do not understand this comparison.... several interviews with Ram CEO and Engineers stated that it is not a competitor to the Raptor and that if you wanted a off-road capable ram then you need to go through mopar to get the ram runner or buy a power wagon; even in one of your episodes you stated something along that line in regards to it being more of a FX4 competitor... Look at the rebel, its a Ram 1500 with a new interior/grill (both cosmetic) and air ride suspension; the raptor is a pre-runner, not even a close comparison. I think it would be much more competitive to compare it to a ram runner or a power wagon.

    • @TFLtruck
      @TFLtruck  Před 9 lety +21

      Agreed but at the Detroit debut of the truck they previewed it with a video of the Rebel desert running like a Raptor. Perhaps a mixed message or perhaps Ram knows that there is an opportunity to sell the Rebel to the off road buyer while the Raptor is out of the market. BTW: this truck screams off-road with every bit of Ram Rebel DNA. We feel this is a fair comparison.

    • @andrewmason9137
      @andrewmason9137 Před 9 lety +3

      Fair Enough, I test drove a rebel last week up here in Canada and I really liked it; It was just city driving but a nice truck none the less. I already have a offroad truck all done up (1992 W250 Dodge Cummins) So im gonna get the new cummins instead and keep in on the pavement; great on fuel, extremely reliable, and plenty of power.

      if you search the raptor vs. ram runner on here (CZcams) they have a video its 2 or 3 yes old, but accurate. raptor won, the runner is ugly to me, its meant to live in the desert, not an everyday vehicle to me

      I don't know, the Rebel did pretty well compared to the Raptor and was in the same ball park price wise.
      Depending on packaging I am sure you can get an FX4 in the range too, but without knowing what they had on that Rebel it's hard to build it competitively

    • @ivanmatz5812
      @ivanmatz5812 Před 9 lety +1

The Raptor is a purpose-built vehicle. if it is going to be compared with anything, it should be against another vehicle that was also purpose-built. The Rebel is nothing more than an "appearance package" with some added goodies.

    The two off-road "gems" in this video, are the one you heard and the one you didn't...1) the one you heard: Roman stated, "As slow as possible, but as fast as necessary" this is an off-roader's mantra. Roman, you just earned huge points with me.2) the one you didn't: what tire pressures were used? Highway pressure? Come on, at least air down to 15 -20 p.s.i for a trip like this. Any off-roader will tell you that airing down makes a dramatic improvement in traction and ride quality.

    Undisputed light duty pick-up, ya right. Since when was the Raptor ever up against a 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro. The Pro can even come with a factory supercharger that out accelerates the Raptor, it has more ground clearance and a better approach angle and its slightly smaller for those tight trails and its half the price. Has a longer bed length and carries more payload on less fuel and turns and parks easier.

      +Traxxasrcbros The raptor has a rear locker AND something Roman continues to miss is the fact that the Raptor has a Torsen torque biasing front differential. The Raptor is purpose built - the Rebel was a nice try but fails to really have any substantial off road goodies.

      Idk what you're talking about. The Raptor's interior looks cheap and plasticky while the Rebel had a nicely done, stitched interior. The exterior looks cheap because of it's boring color. Make the RAM red and it won't look cheap.

    I think the biggest take away here is that most everyone agrees the rebel is pretty much an appearance package. But it also did very well right next to a raptor while doing some light off roading. So if you're not Baja racing your $50k truck, you could get away with having a regular ram 1500 in the trim of your liking.

    The Rebel isn't the Ram Baja Ready truck. The RamRunner is. Ford has even called it the Raptor killer. It's a customer order truck with the Mopar 6.4 Lt and the Torqueflite 8-speed. The Rebel is the Ram version of the FX4

    Ford just makes one truck, the raptor, yet it is able to beat both the runner and rebel, even though ram makes two trucks made specifically for certain terrains. I thunk that the raptor is a remarkable truck to be able to win in two categories where as both rams lost in each of their own categories. This was a completely fair video.

    maybe some more aggressive tires could help both the vehicles get thru those hard to get thru places.. also the ford raptor has a video in motion feature, which allows the user to see whats behind the truck while driving, on screen thru the rear view camera.. and plus the Sirius Xm feature lets the user see weather updates, gas prices, a map for migrating anywhere you want to go too, movie listings, and post-results for sporting games.. with that being said I would have to say the Raptor is only ahead of its time, until a newer and more well thought of design truck comes out and overcomes its authority. meanwhile, I love the 6.2L V8.. just an opinion of mine.

    FORD I suspect gleamed very advanced Traction Control software knowledge/algorithms during the time they owned Land Rover and have applied it across their product line. I remember over a decade ago Ford engineers stating they can "guess" what type of deforming service (mud,snow,sand) a vehicle is on by the rate of wheel spin/slippage and modulate traction control in real time to maintain forward momentum.

  • @danhellerjr
    @danhellerjr Před 9 lety

    Fiat is marketing the Rebel as a Raptor-like truck so I think it's a pretty fair comparison. What makes the Raptor's win over the Rebel special is the fact that the Ford has been pretty much unchanged in 5 years (other than the Torsen front diff it got a couple years ago). So we're pitting a 5-year-old truck against a brand new one and just as everyone expected, the Raptor is still king.
    Like Roman mentioned, Fiat does have the Power Wagon which is an AWESOME off-road truck, but it's a HD truck meant for a different purpose (more of a dedicated rock crawler). In that regard, Fiat has a better off-road HEAVY-DUTY truck than Ford.
    I can't wait for the 2nd gen Raptor to hit lots next year. Something very special is coming... :-)

The 80 Clubcab has a 360, 4 spd and Suregrip rear Diff. It's two tone, brown and tan. Ugly as sin to most. It even has a manual choke. Most posters don't have a clue what that is. • @benrichards3397
    @benrichards3397 Před 8 lety

    this basically a comparison between locked and open differentials, that's the only reason the raptor didn't lose traction over the same area that the rebel did. If they chose a model of the rebel that had a locker, and I know they sell one because I own a 1500, then it would've been a much more fair comparison.

    I have 2 4x4s , a 1978 Dodge Ramcharger and a 1982 Dodge W 150 Power Ram . Total investment for both rigs is under $6,000 , although more is coming as I can afford it . Either of my trucks will handle these levels of trails . Of course the drivers would have to know how to drive off road as my trucks don't have electronic big brothers on board to protect the operators from their own stupidity . I guess a market exist for these trucks, but it seems to me that the only place I ever see these $50,000+ trucks off road is on you tube in shows like this.

  • @BigKidCertified
    @BigKidCertified Před 6 lety

    I could be wrong, but wouldn’t the Raptor be more in its element if they were driving 50mph across a rocky and bumpy desert? It’s meant to be a pre runner, woop hitting, soft landing machine! That said, I’d imagine this is somewhat of a fair comparison to what normal, everyday usage would be with a truck. So I’d say it’s fair! Now if they were trying to get the Rebel going 50 mph and hit a jump in the desert to let it land and Grenade the fuel cell, that would be an unfair comparison haha

  • @dkh1020
    @dkh1020 Před 8 lety +2

    This was a comparison of two dissimilar trucks. The Ram is not meant to compete with Raptor but did hold it's own. I've owned several fords and they are money pits. Stupid stuff breaks or goes wrong and they are difficult to diagnose. Not to mention, the parts are expensive. I switched to Dodge a few years ago and have had great luck. Just general maintenance and the truck has never been in for warranty work. My last Ford was at the dealer numerous times for things that just shouldn't go wrong with a new truck. The warranty ran out and I got rid of the ford. Best decision I've ever made.Next test you do, put the raptor up against a power wagon. It will kick the Raptor to the curb. How much did Ford pay you to make this video.

  • @johncarder819
    @johncarder819 Před 9 lety

    The Raptor is NOT wider "to make room for the shock absorbers". To get long travel required a longer suspension arm. The mounting point was not changed, so the truck had to be wider.

But I do have to say the rebel did one hell of a job, just need's some more clearance, and a winch along with bigger tires like the raptor and power wagon to get over rocks better and tackle terrain better so it doesn't slip like it did. When the trucks drive over the camera, and you have the under side view of the suspension, check out the difference in the size of the front lower control arms. The Fords are huge and full, where the Ram's are much smaller, especially the rear arm of the A-Arm and are more open. The Ford could obviously take a lot more abuse.
