    These trucks are designed differently, the Dodge is more of a rock crawler, the Ford is more of a desert racer.

      They are not mutually exclusive. Neither of those trucks is a rock crawler: no sliders and no armor (cheap plate armor not counting). A long travel truck with armor will do both very well. However if you need to haul or tow heavy then the heavy duty Ram is the way to go. In fact, it's weight will be a detriment in many obstacles, any thing with loose traction like sand, gravel, mud etc.

      @iLikeC00kieDough Před 8 lety +1

      Being a 2500 series truck, the towing isn't all that impressive due to the rear suspension set up. If you truly need towing/hauling capability, just go with the regular 2500.

    I don't care what truck manufacturer your in bed with. Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan or Ford. The Raptor is honestly the exception for all. I talk to Chevy and Dodge guys and even they understand that the Raptor is in a class of its own. Ford did this truck right. Cannot wait for the 2017.

      @guyproulx1660 Před 8 lety +4

      +mobgma isn't it funny how it never won a race in the stock full class at the Baja 1000, as a matter of fact it got raped badly in 2012 by a Toyota TRD PRO and a Toyota Land Cruiser, the Raptor has a history of bending their frames

    • @Falcon-mc5fs
      @Falcon-mc5fs Před 8 lety +2

      +guy proulx You have no clue. www.autoblog.com/2008/11/25/ford-f-150-svt-raptor-r-completes-inaugural-run-of-baja-1000/ This was years before Toyota did it. Also history of bending frames is only because people jump their trucks, nobody would dare jump their Toyotas. I propose a challenge you show me all the videos of guys abusing their Toyotas and i will show you all the videos of guys abusing their Fords, I promise there will be virtually no Toyotas even remotely abused in the same way as Raptors. Also the Raptor that did compete in Baja 1000 had to compete at a higher class. Also Ford completed the Baja 1000 with a regular 2015 F-150 ecoboost as well. Also TRD never finished the race in 2012 here's the link. www.trucktrend.com/events/163-1201-baja-series-toyota-tacoma-at-baja-1000/ People with Toyotas treat them like wet paper and therefore they last, people with Raptors treat them like they can't break, therefore we see some bent frames etc from guys going to dirtbike tracks and jumping their trucks. No Truck in production is as dedicated as the raptor for abuse, period.

    • @guyproulx1660
      @guyproulx1660 Před 8 lety +2

      Falcon 4917 let me inform you that you're the one with no clue, didn't you notice that i specifically mentioned the "stock full class", the Tundra won it in 2012, look it up, and send a link of the 2012 stock full class, there were only 4 trucks that competed in that class that year, a TRD PRO, a Land Cruiser, a Raptor and a Hummer that's it, what's the point of having a Raptor and jumping it if it can't take the abuse it was designed and engineered to do and bend the frame, only one explanation, Ford Raptor owners are idiots lol

    • @Falcon-mc5fs
      @Falcon-mc5fs Před 8 lety +1

      guy proulx
      Did you read the article, their TRD never made it, just saying just because a Raptor 1 year didn't make it doesn't mean it's crap, especially since it won it before Toyota did. Raptor set the standard, others are then seeing the success of the raptor and making their own. It wasn't designed for taking dirt bike track jumps it was designed and built for desert running. You can say raptor drivers are idiots, i won't argue that, but you can't say the raptor is crap because they do such crazy jumps. No other production truck is as capable for the purpose.

    • @guyproulx1660
      @guyproulx1660 Před 8 lety

    I would be interested to see how the Chevrolet S10 ZR2 trucks made in the early 2000s would compare to the off-road versions of the trucks offered nowadays.
    the ZR2 came with a boxed frame, along with a 4" wider track and 3" lift and a locking rear diff, so wouldn't it be the sort of "Grandfather" truck which paved the way for the Raptor and Power Wagon?

    The long travel rear suspension on the raptor helped and the ram having a longer wheel base helped a little. Plus having a solid front axel is a huge benifet. If the ram had the suspension travel in the rear the raptor had it would not of been remotely close. That was a cool review.

  • @CamoShirt
    @CamoShirt Před 8 lety +1

    having a solid rear axle helped on the raptor on this. if all corners were independent suspension it might have got 70 inches before one of the corners was off the ground. for rock climbing its kinda like what do you want, a 3 foot pry bar or 6 foot long pry bar to move or climb the boulder. 6 foot rear axle is just a lever working like a see saw

I think its pretty cool Dodge makes the power wagon, real off road monster gear in a big 3/4, the motor has lots of power but it sure is thirsty, it really cries out for a modern diesel engine that doesn't have the weight of the big Cummins

    I would go with the Raptor, it looks great and does well at everything. May not win every category, but it holds its own. Where it does excel though, is just on the street. Very well optimized suspension, responsive steering and a wide track make it very stable for cornering at speed.

    TFL, by my calculations, the Raptor actually out scored the Ram on this particular test. Though the ramp angle is different than later videos, shouldn't the math still be the same? I calculated the Ram score at 517 and 590 sway bar connected vs disconnected respectively. Meanwhile the Raptor scores a 601. I think this disproves the "accepted" solid axle vs IFS theory. Imagine how much better the Raptor could do with a sway bar disconnect.

    This test is flawed. They don't have identical wheelbase or ride height. Both of which will have a major impact on how far up the ramp the vehicle can go. There are other variables as well that aren't addressed that can affect the outcome of the test. That makes this comparison , like most of the other ones on youtube, not worth a whole lot. Most of these test are made to show an advantage over another manufacturer. That losing manufacturer can turn around and make a comparison that shows their truck is better than the one they lost to just by changing the parameters of the test. In most racing situations chassis or suspension flex is not desirable. The Raptor is inspired by the best technologically capable offroad racing trucks in the world (called Trophy Trucks or Trick Trucks). Thus very little flex. This isn't really a flex test but a test of articulation between front and rear suspensions. Rock Crawler type vehicles show the most articulation in their suspension systems, They are typically solid axles front and rear.They're comparing Apples to Oranges here. The only thing thses videos are good for is for use as tools to determine what might be a better working truck for what you might use a truck for. all these trucks are good choices and none are necessarily better than another. The men in this test don't seem to understand that in my opinion.

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere Před 8 lety

      I see your point but I disagree because this in not a laboratory or science experiment, this was a real world test and in this test the Ram went farther and higher up the obstacle. It has a longer wheel base and it's higher to start with and those are some advantages. What I will say though is that there are multiple real world tests that where that longer wheel base might be a detriment such as break-over angle etc.

      Quite the contrary if you understand suspension dynamics. The Power Wagon sat more stable on a narrower platform which doesn't allow it to usually sit as firmly planted and is more prone to rollover if the COG is equivalent.
      Kent: "mono beam"? I've been a solid axle Jeeper s and Ram owner for 30+ years. Never heard that term before.
      Narrower wheelbase, shorter wheelbase, 88": Power Wagon for the win.

      +Secured Circus They didn't even make a Crew Cab Raptor initially because SVT didn't want the longer wheelbase. The wider wheelbase is intentional for high speed baja racing, where you want that extra stability. Fact of the matter is the Raptor can go 60+mph offroad stock, while the power wagon can't. Not saying it is a better crawler than power wagon (though I'm told pretty comparable), but the PW's suspension has nothing on the Raptor.

    so ram power wagon has coil springs in the rear thats one wierd truck but i kind of like it "not as much as i like the raptor"
    p.s. you should do a flex test between the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and the raptor '' or the power wagon" or both

    Interesting test. Would rather see you measure the height of the wheel up the ramp. 88" up the ramp doesn't tell how much flex happened.

      Not to be a smartass, but you could bust out that trig they taught you in high school and figure it out. They said the angle was like 16 degrees and they gave the length of the hypotenuse. But who am I kidding, I don't want to do the math either.

    • @1tylerproud
      @1tylerproud Před 8 lety

      +ih1206 I didn't do trig in high school.
      I think a tape measure would be easier.

    There built for two different things. There's no reason for the raptor to have a disconnect and stuff like that.

      +noobtoob nooby The Powerwagon started lifting the left front first. The Raptor lifted the right rear first. Test was to see which lifted a tire first, not one specific tire.
