*WIRE-BOTTOMED FLOORS*
There are plenty of pet CZcams channels that demonize wire-bottom flooring, but they fail to do their research or understand why it is used. It is a common misconception that a GOOD wire-bottomed floor is bad for rabbits. Wire flooring (especially the thick gauge flooring I have) keeps rabbits out of urine and waste at all times, and also aids in adequate ventilation, which prevents disease. Sore hocks, or sore feet, is typically a genetic problem or is caused by soiled living conditions. Rabbits have plush fur on the bottom of their feet and are quite comfortable on the wire. I can assure you that my rabbits do not have sore feet 😊
*CAGE SIZE*
The size of my cages is nearly double the amount of space that the American Rabbit Breeders Association recommends. Please note that my rabbits are not considered pets, they are livestock, and they have a job to do. That being said, they do get out frequently to explore my fully-fenced backyard. They have plenty of room to flop and binky (and they do quite often, especially when I come out and talk to them!)
*SELF-SUSTAINABILITY*
I started raising rabbits for meat because I wanted to stop turning a blind eye to the life of the animal in the grocery store. Raising your own meat is a real eye-opener and it makes me so much more grateful for what they do for us. Instead of paying for a factory farm to raise my meat in crowded or unsanitary conditions, I get to let my meat rabbits graze on grass, have room to run, and live their days being happy. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, I commend you as well, because we are both making a positive impact on our world.
*PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS*
Since building my hutch, I have weatherized it (and winterized in winter) Please feel free to watch my recent videos to see how the rabbits are protected from the elements.
*HAY AND ENRICHMENT*
A lot of people have made comments on how I don't give my rabbits hay, and it just makes me laugh. My garage has a wall stacked with haybales, and we go through A LOT. The rabbits get free choice hay all the time. They also get toys and chew sticks often. Just because you can't see it in this ONE video doesn't mean it doesn't happen 😉
Yes. Thank you for educating the Karens on how responsible people raise meat rabbits. We are not evil because we raise our own livestock. We raise, nurture and harvest humanly.
Inspired to start a new cage project after seeing this amazing build. Very, very well thought out and constructed. Love it!!!
Hey Tiffany! We are planning to buy the KW Cages to do this amazing hutch but don't know if to upgrade the flooring to pvc coated or galvanized gauge 14 like you since it's only $9 in difference. What is the difference between these floorings????
@@fjsp3261 either of these options are great! Just keep in mind the you won’t be able to torch PVC coated wire, if that’s a way you were planning on cleaning them 😊
@@TealStoneHomestead Thank you for answering so quickly!😄 Question: What do you mean by torch????? Don't get it???
Your husband is one very lucky man! and my ego as a man has now been bruised, seeing how much better of a builder you are than me lol. Love your videos, Tiffany take care.!
I'm so proud of you as a grandma!! You worked so hard! Great job sweetheart!!
I enjoyed watching this build, and I slowly fell in love with it all. Then, you showed it lit up at night, so now it’s a must have because that was just beautiful. I watch so many channels because I’m new to all of this and am interested in growing our own food for many reasons, with high priority being the happiness and well being of my critters. I have watched so many that stuff animals into such a small space and I cringe. While I appreciate the endless amounts knowledge they bring to the table, I am loving that you also thought about the happiness of your rabbits. This is by far my favorite set up I’ve seen and I’ve been binge watching rabbit hutches today. Thanks for sharing. Now I have to locate the upgrade video because we do get pretty cold winters here.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the build Tammy!! I care very much about my rabbits' happiness. We are currently building a brand new setup for them at our new property, but this hutch has a special place in my heart :)
You did an absolutely gorgeous job! My bunnies are jealous! Thank you for all you do to share your journey and knowledge with the rest of us!
The most important thing that I have noticed is how you enjoyed this build. This is what homesteading and living is about. Make the things that make your life and life of your animals better! You did a very good job! Do add a gutter for rain collection as it will provide you with most amazing water for your rabbits.
Thanks for not only this video but the plans and links too. I ordered the same cages as you, and KW was even willing to make them out of 1/2 x 1 wire on the walls and ceiling too. This is important as we have a lot of rat snakes here. This is a great design.
I absolutely love this. I will be starting a new cage build in the next couple of weeks and was struggling on what I wanted but I absolutely love this. I will definitely be fashioning mine after yours. Ohhh and the LED lights. Love them and are now a must.
Love the hutch, you did a really great job with it
I’ve watched hundreds of rabbit related videos and…this woman is GORGEOUS! Seriously. Kudos to her husband for winning the lottery 😆
Wow! Very nice! The new hutch is beautiful, and I love the lights! Congrats on a job well done.
Thank you so much!!
Just wanted to say what a great job I think you did. the final product and your passion while you worked on it were inspiring
Thank you so much! 😊
Thanks for such a detailed video on a great build - I'm going to use it as a basis for my new quail coop build! Also, it's great to see one that isn't built with a workshop full of power tools!
Same!
Hey sis, love from Bangladesh, I watch all of ur videos. I really like ur rabbits cage and I will also told that how creative person you are. I think, you have liberal heart. That's why, you take care ur rabbits, chickens, dogs and garden. and I'm also feeding a rabbits pair.. I'm really impressed..
This is the nicest hutch I've seen...thank you
If i didn't have this build a few days ago back in my head i wouldn't be subscribing to your channel right now. Happy new year.
Thank you! Happy new year 😊
Just a thought. Get some tin , bend it accordingly and then slope from middle to outside to roll droppings to one end to drop and collect them in a bin. Both levels can be collected in one bin if set right.
That’s not a bad idea! Thank you! 😊
I am in love with this hutch!! The color is awesome! I might have to steal it to paint the hutch we just made. My daughter agrees and says that is her favorite color! You did awesome!!
Thank you so much!! Yes go for it! Teal is the best ❤️😊
Wow your hutch looks really good! Awesome job!
Excellent video! Great editing, wonderful filming, sound was clear with the quite background music and a beautiful project. I give this video a 10.
Thank you so much! 😊
I think this cage system is the best I ever seen in CZcams
Wow 😍! it so fresh and very pretty hutch. I like your sharing thanks 👍
Oh my goodness!!! It is beyond fabulous!!!!
Thank you for explaining the wire bottom because I had heard it wasn’t good for their feet and the way you explained it actually makes sense and thank you for your great videos I can’t wait to have my own rabbit litter soon!
I will talk more about wire bottomed flooring on my next video where we try a prefab hutch 😊
@@TealStoneHomestead thank you so much!!
That looks amazing, that is the style of hutch I would to build when I get into rabbits on our homestead. You can handle more rabbits in a smaller footprint. I remember when my dad had 2 like that facing each other with the roof tying them together making covered aisle between. It was nice when it was raining and doing chores. Great build, will be looking for the plans and any updates. Thank you for sharing.
That sounds awesome! Such a good idea! If we ever move and take this with us, that might be a cool project 😊
Well done I love the paint colour your bunnys are beautiful keep making videos
A suggestion to extend the life of your hard work. Place each of the legs on a paver stone or even just a red brick. The pine you used will absorb moisture being in contact with the ground (even though it's painted). Pine will begin to rot within a couple of years, if it's constantly moist. You may also want to treat the bottom 12" of each leg with a water sealant, each year.
I have the front legs standing on wood boards right now but in the long term I would love to find some concrete! 😊 water sealing is a good idea.
The lights do look cool. I imagine you keep them off most of the time unless you need to check on them at night for some reason. Once I have had quail for a couple years I plan to add rabbits and using KW Cages seem like a good thing to use. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! Yes we only use the lights at night when we do chores, and to extend daylight hours during winter. They are turned off overnight.
i just love it it looks great. wish you best of luck and many many bunnies'
Those LED lights are pretty cool. Great build!
Oh wow. That hutch is amazing.
Very beautiful, no wind, no rain, no shade. only appreciate
Now thats awesome! You did a great job! I love the double-decker idea. I'll be building another hutch myself soon and may use a design like this. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you so much!! I’ve been loving it for sure. be sure to check out my blog post if you need the plans! 😊
@@TealStoneHomestead I will thank you
Wow. Clean, nice looking hutch
I am impressed!!! Way to go!!!!
This is beautiful!
Well done. We switched some time ago exclusively to KW modular cages and never looked back.
I’ve only been using them since Saturday but I’m in love with their quality 😍 the cheap cages we were using don’t even compare!
Your rabbit hitch is sooooo perfect,
Wow especially the LEDs 😊😉
I hope you also include how it looks at night in your next video.
Beautiful job! From another woman sorta-builder, but not nearly as good as you are, who also raises silver fox. I only recently got my first pair and had my first litter 12 days ago. Mama only had 3 this time, but I now need to build a more permanent setup like yours. Thank you, Very Nice Job!
The best video I have ever seen in a very very long time ❤️❤️
Thank you! 😊
Ronan sneaking some bunny poo while you're distracted haaha The teal stone hutch is so BEAUTIFUL! & at night! im jelly. im inspired.
Thank you girlie!! ❤️ I can’t get these hounds to stop eating poop 💩😂 you should get some LED’s since you’re running electricity out to your colony! 😊
Very Cool Set up!
Great video and great work!!! 👊😍💪 I love it!! Ty
Wow! Great work!!!
I love all your DIY builds. I really want to know how your rabbits do in thunderstorms. I live in Florida and would really love to build this in my backyard but am worried when we get sudden thunderstorms with rain literally going sideways. No problem with cold just don't want wet rabbits. Thanks so much!!
Looks great!
Thanks for sharing. We just got 10 silver fox rabbits and will be able to start breeding next week. Love your rabbit hutch.
10!! Holy cow! 🤣 Love it. Silver foxes are definitely my favorite breed 🥰
Honestly disgusting.
@@sarahhhx3 there is nothing disgusting about humanely raising your own meat source. Please read pinned comment 😊
That's awesome!! I love LEDs !!!
Thank you! The LEDs are my fave ❤️
You did a great job!!!
Thank you! 😊
Amazing!! Well done!!!!
I love your build.
Beautiful!
Looks really good. Great job
Thank you! 😊
Great rabbit hutch !!!
Nice work I love it 💖
Wow, nice job.
amazing outcome! i would have personally changed somethings like the wired floor and the amount of space each rabbit gets but otherwise i love the design.
i need to make a new cage for my two rabbits and are looking for ideas.
Love what you did, gonna try making my own.
Looks beautiful and I love it and yes zip ties are the bomb! Good luck with the tarps however mine was ripped to shreds during the last storm.
Oh no!! :( I'm so sorry about your tarps - that sucks! So far my winterizing project has held up well, though I have more plans for the sides and back of the hutch this coming year. Something a little bit more sturdy and permanent.
@@TealStoneHomestead Awesome! I will be sure to check out what you do!
that's a nice hutch will definitely copy dat one
thank you for the plans and list of cuts
You’re welcome! 😊
Very nice. I bought my cages from the same company. Very satisfied
Thank you! Yes, love the cages! 😊
I have looked at your plans really nice set up, the overall size is left out.
Love the bunny hutch. Such a good job! 😀. New sub👍🏻
Thank you so much! 😊
Wow it's beautiful weary beautiful i like this cage
Perfect cage
This is brilliant!! I initially wanted to build a two tier cage system, but quickly was turned off by the idea of dealing with trays. I love what you did with the angled plastic roofing! Ill definitely be using your design. Thank you so much!
Beautiful!!😍 watching from Philippines.. i like that also..😍
Excelent. I liked you project.so perfect
Excellent.
So nice 👍👍👍
Good video . I have N.Z reds and this gives me some ideas of my own
I dont even know you but I'm proud of you too..your my she row...make me want to build a bunny hutch😄 your roof looks amazing
Thank you so much! 🥰 I’m constantly learning! I just like to share my creations for my animals with you guys 😊
Tiffany, your hutch looks so amazing even at night
Thank you so much!
¡Guau! Te quedó muy bien, felicidades.
That is awesome
Nice cage super
Coal is such a perfect buck. So excited that we got a boy from him that is going to keep his line going. You will be happy to know that once he is done, he will be kept and allowed to live out the rest of his days after he retires. By the way among rabbit owners in southern Ohio you are kind of a celebrity 😂
Haha!! I love it :) Coal was such a sweet boy here. He is Cricket's dad!
Great job
Awesome! !
Beautiful
super like hutch design
Thank you!
You did an amazing job. I might make me one similar, for our rabbits. First time I seen your videos. Awesome channel. From my family to yours, God bless.
Thank you so much! 😊
Lovely setup. I'm constructing a frame similar but using C purlins
Thank you! Where are you putting those? As the supports?
Very nice rabbit hutch
Thank you!
This absolutely ROCKS!! I just learned during the pandemic how much I love to build! I made one almost the same, but without plans I had a few issues. Now, I am hoping to expand as I get better with rabbits, and change breeds, so I am hoping to start this project next week! I even think I may paint it now that I see how gorgeous it is with paint.
I also appreciate you showing how you will winterize. I believe most livestock do better outside, but with the past two winters seeing polar vertices -50, I thought I'd have to stick them back inside the greenhouse again. But I have added stock, so that would have only allowed for most of them in there.
I am binging your CZcams today. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!! You should definitely paint it and share it with me on Instagram 😊
Silver foxes are a very cold hardy breed. Their fur is super dense and generally longer than other commercial breeds, so I always feel like my foxes are happiest when it’s colder out.
what pandemic?
And the hutch turned out amazingly! I think your poop slides are pretty clever and Ronan seems to appreciate them, lol.
Ronan does appreciate the poop slide. He now has an endless supply of cocoa puff snacks 😂😩
@@TealStoneHomestead 😂😂😂
Gross 🤮
Amazing🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great and amazing DIY rabbit cage....😆😆ilove it... I have also rabbit...16 heads in philippines
I love that you kept the clip of telling your dog off for eating poop 😆
Nice job! It looks similar to mine but I ony have three does and one buck, so I built a one story. I like the LED lights a lot. I think I might try that too. so often it's been getting dark early this winter so some lights would be great if I happen to feed them their hay at night.
The LED’s are amazing! Definitely my favorite part 😊 I have a 4-hole hutch I built after this one as well, that I call the Buck Hutch. It is our quarantine/bachelor pad area 🐇 go check it out if you’d like!
Woman POWER! I have two daughters and I will say your dad must be really proud of you!
Thank you so much. I hope he is 😊
i like rabbit structure it gives me confidence to make own fore my rabbits
This is great! Thanks for the video! I am building a rabbit hutch here in Florida and watching your video! You and your husband are adorable!
Thank you so much!! ☺️ I’m glad you found it helpful!
Salut, sunt din România, informații foarte bune despre iepuri
I love your hutch! I would recommend getting a little solar panel for your lights. It would be cheaper than running electricity
Solar is something I am doing a bit of research on. The only problem is, I’m not sure it would be able to fully power 4 box fans for next summer. But we’ll see! 😊
Very nice!
Thank you! ☺️
Nice congrats... God bless
Wow the hutch is beautiful 😍 ❤ I am so wanting rabbits now! I just got my 1st flock of chickens last spring and looking for land so I can expand and have more animals I love your videos so inspiring ❤ 💖
Thank you so much! ❤️ both chickens and rabbits are so fun 😊🐇 you don’t need a whole lot of land for either of them!
@@TealStoneHomestead awesome thanks for the advice❤. I am just getting into "Homesteading" & I know nothing of rabbits 🐇 but you make it look so easy and its very hard to not want cute faces with twitching noses lol 😉 must be so hard to not keep them all do you struggle with that issue of wanting to keep them all? Lol I feel thats gonna be my challenge 🤪 lol
@@Massholeswife oh yes, sometimes it can be hard. I dote at them so much when they’re babies!! But around 5-6 weeks I try to detach myself from them and let them grow more, then when they’re around 10 weeks old I look at them objectively, as workers. Who’s the strongest? Who can improve my herd? Who isn’t going to help my herd? It’s these questions that guide me on who to keep. And of course, after I choose someone to stay, they go back to being spoiled 😊 sometimes the cutest rabbit isn’t the best to keep. But it’s great when it is 😁
Great video and design! Its so satisfying to watch such clean and practical building. We’re going to attempt (novice builders). Can i ask, do you think this could work on wheels? If so, what mods wld u make for structural support?
