@@Guysmith7 it's funny because it's true of 95% of the businesses on the show. most of them are 1-2 person businesses and if that person got hit by a bus the entire business would fail overnight. some of them would have stop to recoup, although no one to resell it, most of them even with inventory and systems would not have anyone who actually knows where that stuff is and how to convert that back into cash if hit by a bus. and even in ones where they might have a lot of stock, where's the future. imagine reggae reggae sauce with Peter on the bottle instead of levi roots lol

I don't get why people who want investments from the Dragons keep giving those high valuations, especially after first 2-3 seasons of the show (which are available on DVD). It's like going for a job interview and not knowing the company's name.
They think it's a great starting point for negotiation, I assume?
@@basstrammel1322 I think Peter expressed that couple of things automatically puts back to the wall, which is not a position you want to start your negotiation from.
Besides, If you know you're going to job interview and you can watch previous candidates and how they did, you wouldn't do something that disqualifies most of them, would you?
Lots of businesses are there for the exposure only.
@@garybuttherissilent5896 Oh, I don't doubt that. Other factor is "being on TV", and the business is just a bonus. Plus I'm sure they have thousands of applicants for the show and they choose the ones that will get the best reaction out the Dragons.
They don't want some boring, but safe business where the Dragons are ready to shake hands right after presentation :P

The first pitch Hypnobirthing, if i did that my daughter would genuinely be dead right now, she needed specialist equipment to survive birth so a home birth was never an option, im not sure on the stats regarding that but id imagine 5-10% would need some sort of specialist equipment to survive making her buisness idea not possible, even a 1% chance of death no parent ever wants to take that percentage
She even specified that it doesn’t just mean at-home birth.
Home births involves taking all medical advancements in the last forty years and throwing them out the window. Colossal idiots doing it to be trendy.
Hypnobirthing can be used In all areas of birth High tech or natural birth it teaches about positivity and breathing. Seen it work well
For mothers who have ended up in emergency situations and keeping calm reflects on the outcome for baby. I say well done to herself.
Peter was so wrong about Shnuggle. Their turnover was over 5 million in 2022.
They were at 600K revenue at the time so 1.5M was not extreme and open for negotiation.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING TO VALUE A BUSINESS ON "future potential" It infuriates me when people say that their business is valued on the next 3 years
yer wrong ! a lot of folk do that / its the potential that is also a factor in valuation
@10wanderer no it absolutely isn't. You don't deal in "if, buts and maybes" in business. Nobody can tell the future. The valuation needs to be current value. Like the dragons always say, they're not investing at tomorrow's prices, they're investing at todays price.
Potential only applies to big companies that have proven, big growth year on year. But the kinds of businesses in the den don't have that kind of proven growth, and if they did, they wouldn't be in the den
Then how come there's so much variation in the valuation of startups?
@@tommatkevich855 because a brand new startup doesn't have figures to go on. So they have to have an "idea" valuation based on targets. But the projections are always small, no more than 200k usually.
That's how the entire stock market works. The value of a stock is a reflection of its perceived future revenue potential.

How is she not replaceable Peter? when she has already built the business and the systems.. Hire a decent manager and I'm sure she would be able to walk away for 90% of the time..
That doesn't solve the problem. If she dies, who owns the business to pay the manager?? She owns 100% of the shares.
The shed guy tried it on, didn't pull it off. Probably should have realised these people are a bit more business savvy than other people he's dealt with. But fair play for trying to slip one past them.
I don't see why they continue to have a problem with this scenario. Granted, the guy didn't have a track record on leasing or selling these sheds, which was the biggest problem.... but why do they always have a problem with entrepreneurs starting a new business that plays off their old one? Like you would have to have them manufactured somewhere, and because he's got a business that already deals with this scrap wood, he can get the stuff cheap because of that. What's the difference between dealing with another manufacturer for your product and dealing with him?

@@billsmith8825 the issue is is he said he was going to use these investments to spend on materials that he gets from Jo's other company meaning he is creating larger profits in his other business so then he wouldn't need to make profit on the building business meaning he would gey a bunch of money that he wouldn't have to share, that's why Peter wanted a share of his other business because otherwise they would literally be throwing 250k away
